It will be very interesting to see how the first 6 months go and how the online pans out. Also, they really need to re-think their strategy on those paid for monthly games that they will remove after the month is up - that's an insult to Nintendo fans.

On the other hand, I think there's plenty of scope for people, living with their 3DS consoles for ages, moving naturally to the Switch as an upgrade. I can see this because, as well as everything else I have, the 3DS has been a cracking source of gaming goodness for years now, and much of that was done at home rather than elsewhere. The Switch has the potential to tap into this niche and expand it, which has the potential of making it the most popular console of all. Instead of seeing it as a PS4 competitor with a smaller library, think of it as a 3DS successor with the potential to bring an entirely new range of titles, Skyrim/Fallout/Dark Souls to the portable gaming market, along with the Fire Emblems, Etrian Odyssey's and Pokemon games.

The Switch's portability should be at the forefront of its marketing and it should be treated as a successor to both the 3DS AND Wii U. Nintendo have confirmed that the 3DS and Wii U will coexist side by side and the way they're approaching it makes me think that the 3DS will have a successor next year or the year after. Nintendo should really only have one system on the market that they can dedicate all their man power to. That in itself would be such a big selling point.

You have to gain knowledge somewhere, just some think this means watching a 10 minute Youtube video of a shouty person or a panel giving opinions, on IGN or elsewhere.

And no one needs to see a gaming universe dominated by just one company, and the self limiting nature of such an arrangement.

On its own free backward compatibility on Xbox One is a winner for this gen. All Scorpio has to do is run multiplayer platform titles better than PS Pro and they will clean up. All this talk of exclusives. The mass market of gamers don't care. They simply want the best possible experience while playing their multiplatform titles. PS4 success is mostly down it being the more powerful console of this gen and Microsoft making a balls of Xbox One pre-release. I do hope that they focus on more exclusives but lets face it the more powerful console will clean up which is actually worrying because Xbox have been delivering so much because they have been playing catch up behind the market leader. My only hope is that they don't get complacent once they start outselling PS4.

Just by being here, talking and typing about this stuff, you are engaging the noggin in a way the great unwashed gaming public don't. If people here buy into the upgrade path that Sony and MS lay out then that's great, but I have a feeling that, if in the market for a PS4 or XB1 for Christmas 2017, most will buy the cheaper standard option, rather than the promises of the 8th and a half generation consoles. I think Christmas 2017 is going to be very interesting indeed. And I'm hoping the Switch will be a significant part of it too. As for the WiiU and 3DS moving forward in parallel with the Switch, I don't see it. They will definitely maintain online services for a time, but there really isn't much upcoming for the 3DS, with only the Yoshi's Woolly World, a Dragon Ball title and DQVIII on the way, so that format will be all over but the singing by Christmas.
