Yesterday the boss showed me a trick. He got some power steering oil and rubbed it on the drivers side wing on my car, to my amazement it lift the paint very shiny. It also gets rid of hand/finger prints on the paint. Was also beads pretty well. Does anyone here use this life hack? Or is this sort of thing frowned upon?

Sounds ideal! I'm using windscreen wash as toothpaste these days. It foams up very well and changes colour like that new colgate toothpaste :pac:

If you run out of the Steering Fluid, there's always the baby oil, vaseline, vegetable oil options....people have been doing it for years! Used engine oil on black; damn, that shine!!

Hmm I'm sensing you all are not impressed, however nobody suggested that it may cause damage to the car in anyway. So if it shines the paint and doesn't do any harm, why not use it? Genuine question..

Don't forget a bit of WD-40 on the plastics in the engine bay. Dealer's trick of the trade

Without actually knowing for sure, but over time, I would imagine it wouldnt be the best for the paintwork - perhaps softening it!

I did it years ago on my mondeo.
Bit if a whiff when it got hot for a day or two. After that it held up well.
Must find a pic of that actually.
I think that was around 2007/2008 :cool:

In my experience wd-40 or oil of any sorts just collects muck for fun, even more so in dry hot weather when more dust in air.

A mate of mine has started working for a dealer last week and sent me a pic of there high tech cleaning garage equipement for new cars.

Thats probably 95% of dealerships nationwide!

She was fairly clean for a car that I never really "Detailed"
She was almost 6 years old in these pics

Son of a gun on the interior plastice.
Can't remember what I used to use on the tyres.

Yep every time. Saw the guy with a brush on the end of a hose and some blue paper towels drying them. Nearly cried. He even asked was I sure I didn't want it cleaned. ðŸ˜¡ It had only been washed 2 days earlier damn black car

Does look smart I agree, just I always found dirt was attracted to any left over oil residue like Bee's to pollen only I wasn't left with honey under my bonnets.
