I resent the fact that religion plays a big part in the education and legislation in this country, and if that could be entirely separated then I would not care what people want to believe and spend their time doing. Live and let live is what I'm generally about, but given that it's nearly impossible to avoid the effects of something I have zero belief in is really annoying. Hopefully the influence will wane over the coming years and there will be a proper separation of religion and state.

Or if a hospital has a chapel/chaplain - this would be important to religious people who are ill. But I don't see why there is a need for religious orders to be involved in the actual running of a hospital?

Banning it would strengthen the weirdos and backfire on us. I find religious orders and beliefs outrageous and an insult to our earth and what is REAL etc. For one Catholics hail a God who's Shepards are famous for raping children and then protects the rapist. C, mon! What God allows that misery. Not to mind wars, disease and general misery and Citroen cars......

Whatever religious symbols etc that are still around Ireland today, eg Bells at noon and at 6pm, there is still sufficiently enough people who are happy that they are there Ruairi Quinn tried to change the schools, and offered people to sign up. Guess what? There was little demand for it and the government were utterly incapable of providing alternatives . Kids are not forced to stay in class if religious instructions are on. Most of those classes deal with all religions and not the dogmatic Catholic Stuff we learned 20 years or more . Schools now demand tolerance of people from all backgrounds. The politically correct now rules the media and society often to extremes. Blaming no sale of alcohol on religion is a cop out since other Catholic Nations have no issue with it The Religious Hierarchy bar some idiots (Bishop of Elphin) were more or less silent during the Children's referendum and the gay marriage debates. The Pope was more interested in not offending or annoying anyone and said little (and rightly so) Who are you hanging around with?

And religion has been pushed on millions of people for thousands of years and only maybe when the church has lost its grip (enforcement of fear) people start to question the nonsense. Religion I think is dying, but far too late for my liking. As for proving God doesn't exist, I don't have to. I know he doesn't. You sound like someone who had religion forced upon them . Tough luck Depp. Maybe the next Neverending life.
