Referees on a CV

    Hi all,

I am currently getting ready to send out my CV and have a quick question.

I have been self employed since 2004 so what do I do about providing referees on my CV? Plus my last employer back in 2004 is now out of business so any previous referee is really irrelevant at this stage or is it??

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I wouldn't put my references on my CV either way. You want to control when they're contacted - which should normally be upon receipt of a conditional job offer.

If it comes to it, then can any of your clients give you a reference?

I have decided not to put any referees on my cv and just wait to see if I get called to interview and see if they askk for one. Don't think clients would be appropriate though (I own a fashion retail outlet) but perhaps would a supplier be an appropriate referee or even my accountant?

I have no idea what is appropriate anymore as it has been so long since I needed to send out a cv.

@qualitynet I have no boss or manager: I am both of these to myself!!!
