2nd hand sewing machine?
*Sapphira*
Hey all,
Does anyone know where I can get either a second hand decent sewing machine or a new sewing machine for cheap (in Dublin preferably)? I'm planning on taking up sewing again!
Oh and if anyone has any idea what the best brand is etc, that would be of great help as I'm totally clueless and desperately trying to remember something from Home Ec classes in school!!
Thanks all in advance!
*S*

Hi Sapphira, a quick search of the forum brings up a number of threads that might help you including:

My personal fav is Bernina but they're horribly expensive. Janomes are really good IMO and there's a lovely man (Bill O'Reilly) in Sandyford who sells and services them so he might have something used. Check Argos too, my oldest Janome came from there.
There are loads of Internet resources if the old home ec lessons don't come back too easily!

have you tried any of the Aldi or Lidl stores near you they may have some Sewing machines left.

bernina is the best sewing machine.....however with new technology i'm not sure old standards apply....i have seen a really machine in aldi or lidl for about 80 euro, looked really good.

Hi I bought a second hand brother sewing machine for gumtree.ie. It was only 50 euro and is a really good machine. Its an old style machine, and it sews beautifully.

I have seen a few going on Gumtree for quite cheap - I think the poster above me here must have baught it because it was 50 euro too and I was seriously considering getting it!!! I have a Janome and it's a beaut! Comes highly recommended from me anyway!

Aldi had one for €60 last weekend, should have some left.

I got one in Lidl last year and it's fine for the non- pro sewer like me! It has lots of attachments (zipper foot, hemming foot, button hole etc) ... make sure if ur buying a second hand machine that you can get parts for it. good luck

I got a great one from Argos, they do a few machines for different prices. I got the Toyota one, and find it great.
