    Downside its a cyma?

thats one of the most reliable guns i know of. and their built like a tank.,

The only downside is, it probably holds about a million BB's,.

Cyma Thompsons are pretty rocking. Metal body as standard and great performance, can't go wrong for the asking price. I'm just not a Tommy fan because I find it awkward to shoulder (but then, the real ones are the same so that's not Cymas fault)

The mag holds 600 apparently. I've read from a few sources that it's either a wind up mag, like a hicap, or a sprung mag, like a midcap. Either way it holds 600 rounds. Given an AK mag holds that much, it's a box mag I could live with given how incredibly epic it looks.
Shouldering problems or not, I want.

Thats something I was always wondering about - why were they no drum mags on tommy guns! Me wants!!!!!!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Had a guy in the shop today asking about this, and it got me wondering, I had a bit of a brain fart.

Was the Thompson used in WW2, taking by the mafia etc, and modified in their use, or vice versa, or where they two completely different things.

I was under the impression that the Us military took the thompson and made it more " soldier efficent" and ready for mass production, after witnessing the carnage in caused in cities.

Open to correction there, its been wrecking my head

As far asm I am aware, they were two seperate things. The WW2 thompson was a different make up, and would have been unable to take the drum mag.

They never used drum mags as they were very heavy & rattled like fúck, even one .45acp cartridge weighs a good bit, never mind 50 or 100 under the front end of your SMG

The 'Gangster' version of the 1930 (pre WWII) are the iconic Tommy gun, well unless I've been watching Kellys's Heroes too much :pac:

Damnit! Why must they make things like these! Don't they know I have no money to buy them? Maybe they just like to tease me!

Only the 1927 and the 1928 versions of the thompson used the drum mags. They couldn't be used in the M1 versions (WWII version) They didn't use them in WWII (for the most part, some were used) because they were awkward, expensive, rattled, unreliable, and weren't very easy to install (they needed a special tool called a third hand)

They were quite common in the Pacific during WW2.

The Tompson was Used By Sgt+ and scouting elemts in the US Forces during WW2 as well as extensivly by the forces deployed in the pacific theatre , the fact they were not mass produced was due to the cost involved. thats when the grease gun came into its elemet. other then that the M1 was the common rifle...

strangly enough the Tommy or the "Trench Broom" was designed in WW1 but never saw active service untill 1938...

    all that aside

.. i wantie one.. but so need for one... oh the conflict

The Thompson was used here during the Civil War! I've seen some pics (cant recall where now) of a couple of anti-treaty dudes with a Tommy gun each, this was just before the civil war (1922). One of the ambush party at Beal na Blath when Collins was killed also had a Thompson.

    Just some useless info! :D

id much prefer the grease gun though, its more comfortable to shoulder, looks better and has a really handy stock that doubles as a cleaning rod, loading tool etc etc.

Are thompsons really bad to shoulder? always felt the need to get one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

    yeah their woeful.,
the stock feels too long for the gun itself and it places it too far away from ya. everything about it is horrible to use, changing mags is a pain, the fire selector is silly. but it has character. thats what makes it appealing i suppose.,:)
