should i get a ps3 now or wait?

i'd like to get a ps3. but i heard that in a few weeks the ps3 80gb comes out as opposed to 40gb, for the same price. i searched google for the 80gb ps3 release date in ireland but couldnt find it. but i think it is either 22 august or 27 august is that right?

hmmmm later on if i run out of space, i'll just need a 2.5" sata hard drive and they are cheap so the extra 40gb of space to me is not worth waiting a couple weeks. is the extra space the only difference? i hear there is better backwards compatibility but i don't care about that.

There's no backwards compatibility in any of the new PS3 SKU's unfortunately. Sony have officially announced they have no plans to reintroduce BC - that's why I bought a second hand 60GB PS3 2 weeks ago!

I'd wait for the 80GB release to be honest - there might be some good bundles released or any 40GBs that are left will probably get a price drop.

As has been mentioned the only difference between the 40GB and the 80GB is the extra hard drive space and that's it. If you've waited this long to get a PS3 why not wait a little longer? It makes absolutely no sense to pay the same money and receive less for it.
You might find that 80GB is plenty for you and if not at a later date you can upgrade to a larger hard drive and then you'll have a tastey 80GB external drive that you can use with the PS3 or your computer.

He means it'll come with a Dual Shock 3 controller instead of the wireless sixaxis that the 40GB comes with.

Im waiting alright. I worry there'll be absolutely nothing with the 80gb tho.

I doubt it will be 400e either. 40gb are sposed to be 400e but most shops sell em at 440e.

Damn right they are. I ended up having to use a pliers as the thread had gone in the blue one and one in the drive cage itself.

yeah thats the thing i just finished college stuff so now i'm all giddy to play gta4 and stuff.

what do u fill up 80gb with? im leaning towards getting the 40gb one now though i have to get another hard drive for my pc as well so when i am run out i can get one for the ps3 as well.

Considering it's less then two weeks away and the 40GB will be "phased out " it's probably best to wait

You should wait and get a 40GB when the 80GB comes out. Retailers will be wanting to get rid of the 40GB so they may have a few good deals.
