That's a shame, she didn't come across well on the British comedy Awards the other night either.

I saw her last night on TV with Chris De Burgh.

I really must see Miss Congenuality - the helping the poor line is a classic with these competitons.

While I wouldn't have much time for or see the positive relevance of "beauty" pageants I certainly don't take tabloids as gospel and nor should anyone. I mean question everything you read...I read elsewhere that she said "maybe offer some earnings" has a similar rhythm yaknow. Either way, to take on such a media intensified role doesn't warrant much sympathy when it comes being slated in front of the world...kinda comes with the job. Won't do auld Christy's new album any harm though. Either way she is a lot younger than she looks and most people do take any half decent opportunities that come their way!

Fs...one Irish person wins something, and suddenly you have a whole pile of Irish people lining up to slag them off and point out their foibles. Why do the Irish have to be so jealous of their countrypeople?

She's only 19, and very new to the whole 'being famous' scene (yes her father is famous, but no-one's ever heard of her before 3 weeks ago). It was brutally obvious on Pat Kenny that she said what she though she should say, and couldn't relax and be herself when answering questions.

I very much doubt anyone who's posted on this thread would be any different in the same circumstances.

Anyone who enters a competion like Miss World deserves to be shot at. Trust some people to get so envolved and defensive about the situation. It's not because she's Irish it's because the whole concept of it is a complete joke. I bet the same people who are defending her are the same people who wet their pants when Ireland win the Eurovision. We'd be far better off without these shamless celebrity seaking nobodies trying to get their 15 minutes. They should be made a mockery of whenever possible.

    Why?

Heres a young girl, who enterered a competition and won lots of money for herself. Fair play to her. What exactly is the problem?

It is a pity that our national broadcaster - did not show the beauty competition.

Even - it does not show the Miss Ireland Competion.

But when it was won by an Irish Lady - then they give it coverage.

In the US - they are many regional beauty competions.

I saw a film starring Kristy Alley about such competitions.

Not a very good film, unfortunately.

Are you kidding? It would probably be 1000 times more cringeworthy than the Rose of Tralee coz they couldn't even go on about how the "girls'" personality is very important as well.

it's very hard to do things with the spotlight on you and not seems like a complete moron. you're barin is so busy trying not to make you look like an idiot that it invariably doesn't notice in time when you do.

i've done some public speaking an alittle radio dj'ing in my time, and it's not easy until you get into the swing of things.

fair fvcks to her for doing it. wasn't that long ago she was working in a pub in dun laoghaire. anyone who works in a pub with a famous parent deserves everything good they get, just for not living off their fathers name (look at kelly & jack osborne, pair of fecking wasters).

i've heard from several sources that she's not at all stupid, just new to the limelight, and i'd be inclined to believe them.

good luck to her, and i'm sure her and her earrings will go on to do great things. ;)
