The pdf schedule for the talks looks great:

I attended last year but didn't run the marathon after due to injury, am hoping to give it a first go for Dublin 2013 so will take all the good advice I can get!

Hi, I'm marathon training and usually after 2hrs 30mins of running I hit the wall I'm taking gels and drinking water throughout the run but can't seem to get past that time marker.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx

I couldn't keep up with Anto's questions - you'd think he'd know what was going on at this stage...:)

You'd get some good info at the Talk Series - in addition, drop into the DCM Novices Mentored thread - great day-to-day advice going on there.

I can't claim credit for the copy writing here, but, having spent the night before* a major race with the pacing zen-master, you'd be shocked at what is considered "best practice" among the pacing community...:)

    * not in the biblical sense...

When I was asked would I like to talk about running to a captive audience I jumped at the chance:) I'm really looking forward to this and it should be a great evening.

I'm just hoping the runner who didn't exactly appreciate my pacing positivity and told me where to go during Kildare Half doesn't turn up on the night;)

What level of runner is this event targeted at? It sound very interesting but I am a bit of a plodder and wonder would this be aimed more at faster marathon runners.

Seems like it's for first timers and improvers. Sounds great

I attended last year, it's got something for all levels. Beginners / first timers will learn a lot and likely benefit from the night the most, but you also have the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of national champions, top coaches and experienced marathon runners.

If anyone is interested Bros Pearse AC have their own Marathon/ Half Marathon seminar in Faughs GAA club tomorrow night at 8pm . Lots of guests speakers on a wide range such as training, schedules, nutrition and hydration, mental strategy, stretching and injury prevention, gear and running shoes, etc . We have a few spaces ( not many) so if interested put a note here and we will fit you in. ( it's free and you don't have to join the club unless you want too of course)

I really enjoyed last night's talk, as a scientist by trade the lactate threshold /VO2max talk by Romain Denis was fascinating stuff and I am definitely going to pay him a visit. To see how the other speakers who run use this information to define how they pace their runs in order to maximise the benefit they get from their sessions was great. Thanks Marthastew and all for the excellent advice!
I am definitely leaning towards running Dublin in the Autumn for the first time in the hopes that taking all the advice I can cross the finish line in one piece.

    Good, informative session.

Having sat through Marthastew's presentation 3-times-in-a-row, the enthusiasm level from our 50K champ never wavered - respect:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,548 ✭✭✭Marthastew

I really enjoyed last night (even the 3rd time I presented;)) and there was a great group of people there. Although Izoard wasn't wearing his trusty compression gear he still came to my rescue with his technical talents (he provided the laptop:) and lots of support)
I would have liked to have seen Romain's presentation, all the talks were very well received.

Very best of luck to anyone embarking on an Autumn marathon training plan:)

Would like to attend something like this but Dublin is a bit of a trek for it. Pity there's nothing similar a bit closer to home, even within an hours drive...

Hope ye all enjoyed it, it sound very informative and well received :)

Just a reminder that the 2nd part of the Marathon Talk series, is taking place on Tuesday Sept 3rd.

The focus of Part II, is more on the big day itself - lots of tips and tricks for the novice and experienced alike.

Detailed agenda is here, while registration link is here.

Have had a few bouts of the "missed training session" malady.
The first talk back in June delivered lots of info and a good blast of motivation.
Looking forward to a booster dose from this on 3rd September.
Also signed up for the Dublin Race Series Half Marathon to keep me on the straight and narrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭Rashers23

Really disappointed I will miss this as am on holidays, the first talk really helped me focus my training and after a visit to Romain Denis in the UCD lab, improve some of my race times.
I signed up for my first marathon and similar to ciah having missed some of the long runs, could do with some focus and tips from the experts. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Enda Fitzpatrick (one of the speakers) coached Linda Byrne for the marathon at the London Olympics.

Also looking forward to hearing what Mick Hynes (the gait analysis guy) has to say about footwear.

Mick's a decent one to have at that talk as he is coming at it from both angles both as a footwear specialist but also as a sports therapist himself.

Bumping this up as reminder that it takes place tomorrow evening, lots of useful information including marathon nutrition, strength and conditioning etc. not to mention excellent tips on pacing strategy by boards own Izoard. Well worth a trip to Ballinteer if you can make it.

Interesting line up of speakers again. I'd recommend this, the first night was well worth the visit.
