Two things ... first it's great to see that you're opening montage features the greatest wrestler of the 80's (Randy Savage) at the end end and second, how do I download this?

Thanks mate! On the page ( http://blip.tv/file/5137682 ) you can 'select format' and there's an option to download at the bottom of the screen, but here it's just easier if i post the different versions :

    SD (480p) mp4 : http://blip.tv/file/get/Oswreview-VCR01WrestleMania1review796.MP4

    iPod (240p) mp4 : http://blip.tv/file/get/Oswreview-VCR01WrestleMania1review973.MP4

Cheers! lemme know what you think after u get thru it; will be improving on the format/time based on feedback :)

Ep #2 The Wrestling Classic will be out next week :)

Cheers lads :D Sure dude. I'll include these when posting from now on :)

    iPad/480p : http://blip.tv/file/get/Oswreview-TheWrestlingClassicVCR02736.MP4

    iPod/240p : http://blip.tv/file/get/Oswreview-TheWrestlingClassicOSWReview2129.MP4

I think iPhones go up to 480p but it's 240p is half the filesize :) I encode each one using PowerDirector, not converting external ones so it should look great! If only i weren't reviewing low-def from the 80s lol.

OSW #4's reminded me of one of my movie pet peeves: when they get the match rules wrong. Usually someone getting pinned for a three count chest-down.

Which is how Zangief loses to Rainbow Mika in a Street Fighter comic (after she no-sells his suplex and takes him down with a low blow and chair shot)...

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 12,013 Mod ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Tell me more about Zangief jobbing!

That's pretty much it. After Ken (naturally) kicks Zangief's ass, the Red Cyclone turns up at a Japanese arena looking for a match with the world's greatest wrestlers and basically gatecrashes while R. Mika's waiting for her opponent.

Mika thinks it's kayfaybe and a last minute change, tells him she'll put him over and asks if he's the face or heel since she was supposed to have a heel turn. Zangief has no idea what she's going on about, goes for a punch or grab, Mika comes off the ropes with a Flying Peach (butt bump) and knocks Zangief down.

He hits his German suplex while she's taunting. She pretends to be hurt then tells him it looked so real. He goes for the spinning lariet, she "Rainbow Low Blow"s him then the chair shot. 1, 2, 3. Zangief gets Mika's promised "world-famous Rainbow Ass-Spanking".

She's not bad considering Zangief's been shown giving grizzly bears the Spinning Piledriver. ;)

when i first saw mania 3 i'm sure they showed the backstory of each match, but the last time i watched it the version i saw didn't show the backstory of hercules and billy jack haynes. I don't know if my memory is correct but i do remember one of them being busted open by a chain. Anyways i've noticed that when you do your reviews there's always 2 versions of the show which people have seen, so it'd be cool if you yourself could review the one with the most footage as you usually seem to have the shorter versions..

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 12,013 Mod ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Wow, you've excellent memory! The WM3 review will be up Wednesday :)

Ha cheers man, I feel i talk too much since i host so i purposely leave the longer WWE Anthology version so they can tell me (and the audience lol) about the extra bits :) I'm partial to the Silvervision versions since i got a ton of them as Xmas presents! I must say it is annoying missing out on promos etc...

    Not the Bees!

Don't care for the 50% Savage/Steamboat hate because they didn't have the match this decade. ;)

It's the only match from WM3 that I've seen, thanks to the Savage DVD (so two years ago?), and expected to dislike it because too much hype puts me off but I enjoyed it. The match holds up well.

Like the Cena image though I think it comes off as more optimistic than intended. :p Are you only going up to the end of the Hulkamania PPVs? Cause I'd rather you kept going. Think the only PPV of that era I've seen is King of the Ring '93.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 12,013 Mod ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Great buzz surrounding the Killer Bees :D

Seems to be the way that we'd have two positive petes and two negative nancy's! Forgot to mention that Steamer/Savage changed how matches were laid out in the future; maybe it should get the "Goldeneye 64" award ;)

Here's the less upbeat version of the Cena billboard pacman.gif

    billboardcenabuy.jpg

My intention was to move to another time period (Two of the likely candidates are mentioned in the WM3 podcast lol) when we finish up sometime during 1992; but sure that's a long way away yet! We'll cross that bridge when we get there :) Thanks for the support mate

what the fook, just watched the WM3 review and there's a couple of bufoons who don't rate the Savage v Steamboat match!!!

The way they're thinking you can forget about any other match that you've just watched, cos there'll be a better one on next week.

I watched a lot of matches and the majoirty of them are just rehashes of other ones, the same spots, and mostly the same outcome. It's rare that you see a match nowadays that's completely fresh. I'm talking about a singles match with no gimmicks, sure you see matches that are innovative, but you're talking about ones that have a gimmick of some type attached. This one was an eyeopener for the industry and still inspires wrestlers to this day.

This match is the blueprint of wrestling.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 12,013 Mod ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Myself & Neo looked at it in context (as you are) and other two looked at it in purely objective 2011 eyes. Your point is an extremely important one that i didn't hammer home - that match was the blueprint for future matches to come with regards to drama/workrate etc. It's one of the most influential matches in history!

OOC and V1 were just trying to stress the point that today's standards (objectively) are much higher and so consequently is less impressive now...which is a great thing, really. It's like saying "Mario 1 was crap because look at the gravity effect in Mario Galaxy!" Technically correct but missing the point!

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭Hygro

Just as long as people know I meant blueprint as in plans, not Matt Morgan!. :D
