Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Anyone gaming a new titleist 915 driver ?

    im going to book myself in next week for a driver and 3 wood, i really like the idea of the 16.5' 4 wood. This time round i ll be sticking with stock offerings on the shafts and staying away for custom shafts with foregolf , i couldnt see my stretching to the estimated price tag with FG

    Would u not go and get fitted at Carton House, that's what I'm doing €60 for a woods fitting, driver, fairways and hybrids?

    If you're going to be spending around €430 for a driver I'd nearly spend a bit extra and be 100% certain it's got a suitable shaft

    If i swung the club the same 100% of time yeah !!! id spend away
    But at 499 plus another 150-200 for shaft, thats almost 700 for a driver , so we re talking almost 1000 for 3 wood and driver !! not a chance!!
    i play off 5 not plus 5

    I will be doing the carton house fitting but i wont be buy any upgrades , i kinda have a feeling that my own driver might still be on the money with the new heads

    I raced for years have a garage full of bikes still, dont need to collect drivers

    Was thinking that too,

    I wouldn't underestimate that it is a precision piece of equipment (The Driver) - but there are no moving parts - just when you compare what is involved in manufacturing a high end bike.

    But - that is irrelevant - they charge what people will pay.

    I just was thinking on this product what is the point - even serious golfer go - you know what, that is actually too expensive.

    Is there really a difference in the manufacturing process for below - I doubt it

    Probably sacrilegious to put a Wilson driver in a Titleist thread - but the market has become more and more - lets say pumped - Taylor Made pushed it out there.

    Has to be a point you go - it is all a bit daft.

    Id say the R&D drives some of the costs, and other brand just borrow the R&D from other manufactures.

    But back to the thread anyone got one yet, G30 flew off the shelves when launched

    Obviously Titleist got it right,

    But this club must have been on the edge in relation to the rules - I guess that is what they are all trying to do - but look at this section of rules , so it was an interesting design to take on. So , yes serious new direction.


    The design, material and/or construction of, or any treatment to, the clubhead (which includes the club face) must not:
    (i) have the effect of a spring which exceeds the limit set forth in the Pendulum Test Protocol on file with The R&A; or
    (ii) incorporate features or technology including, but not limited to, separate springs or spring features, that have the intent of, or the effect of, unduly influencing the clubhead’s spring effect; or
    (iii) unduly influence the movement of the ball.
    Note: (i) above does not apply to putters.

    was watching crossfield's video on it today with the titleist guys and from what they were saying they had to thicken the middle of the face in order to get it to conforming standards.

    They've basically just taken the Adams/TM speed pocket & rebranded it by the look of things. It is a very good looking club though I must say

    I think with the current rules and drivers being at the limit of them your not going to see a driver that everyone will hit further or more accurately but some might.

    I thought this was a good short read - What it's really like when tour players hit new clubs for the first time

    Really though, its all about supply and demand catering to different parts of the market like any product. Titleist are in the group that disdain gimmicky all tech clubs (although the 915 is right up there) while Callaway/Taylormade , while still making some fantastic clubs, cater for those seeking the newest and best. Obviously neither do it exclusively but judging by the forums I read it seems to be the case.

    I haven't hit it yet but I will eventually, rick shiels reviews make it seem a solid club and I can imagine it outselling Pings G30 and I'm the look is starting to grow on me.

    Hit it today - club looks lovely.

    Was hard to see ball flight with sky today - so hard to know what it was like.

    One thing I noticed was how loud it was.

    Hit it today - club looks lovely.

    Was hard to see ball flight with sky today - so hard to know what it was like.

    One thing I noticed was how loud it was.

    Personally I would buy an older version and spend money on a new shaftðŸ˜. But if money is burning a hole in your pocket go for it, if you got a pro fitting they could dull the noise using hot melt.
    I took a SLDR demo driver out for round last summer and wasn't impressed my R11s was straighter and longer but in fairness R11 has a custom shaft

    Apparently, due to the COG properties of the SLDR it's crucial you get fit for it - supposed to be brilliant when properly fitted and pony(& trap) when not fitted - hence why it is huge on tour but didn't sell that well with lots of 2nd hand in the bargain bins.....

    PS - are we starting a book on when Fix ends up buying a 915?

    I just put the 913D2 , 913F and 913h in the bag this year.... and have to say I love them ...Hindsight is a great thing of course and I probably should have waited 8 or 9 months for the 915's..........Definitely woud'nt pay me now to change nor have I the money. I do think that over €450 is scandalous for a driver.. I think I paid €369 for the 913D2 ,, but then again how much longer is it than the 913?? Be interesting to hear any comparisons.

    Tried it at the weekend. Didn't hit it well in comparison with my 910 so think I'll be leaving me money in me pocket, or maybe going for 913 now they're cheap.

    915 are very nice to look at...i picked up a 3w yesterday and didnt want to put it back, very easy on the eye and lets be honest alot of it comes down to what each person likes themselves,
    Reviews are good so far aswell

    Hit both the 915 and Big Bertha Alpha today in a shop.

    915 felt lovely but according to the Trackman thingy I was hitting the BB further with similar spin and swing speed as the 915.

    That's my mind made up anyway

    The new BB 815 looks stunning, giving it a we smack during the week, although I don't overly love the look of the 915, I'm squeezing a little bit more out of it, than my current RBZ s2, and it feels pretty solid. The BB 815 will want to be pretty decent to change my Santa List...........oh....RBZ S2 for sale.........watch this space for a 915 or BB 815 in about 2 months.......

    Im booked in wednesday for a fitting, had them im my hand for the first time today, love the look of the 3 wood, i wana try the 16.5 degree. if things work out i ll pull the trigger on the driver right away

    I'm really not an expert on clubs but I think it's pure madness spending that on a driver. Like, while I can't say for sure, they haven't re-invented the wheel or anything, how can it be that much better than say the 913? You can probably buy that for under 200 now. The 910 was another great club and you could probably get that for around 100.

    Also when you just go in and buy a club off the shelf you don't really know how well it suits you in terms of shaft etc. much better investment to buy a cheaper new driver and get it fitted to you exactly or else go for the fitting and have the pro recommend a few shafts that would suit and then keep an eye out for clubs with that shaft in the second hand market.

    I just refuse to believe these clubs can be that much better than what was out there say 2 years ago. But having the proper club fitted to your swing can make a difference.

    In my opinion it's a far better investment to get a driver and shaft combo that actually suits you for around 200 than to spend double that on the newest, fanciest club picked straight from the shelf.

    If you must insist on spending 400 I'd still go for the 200 club and spend the balance on lessons and range sessions so you can learn how to hit the thing!

    With the exact same process as I got irons fitted a year or 2 ago. Went to get fitted by a pro, he had me try out various shafts etc and had the various data there as regards swing speed and lie, and all that other stuff. He picked 2 or 3 shafts that would suit and said he'd call me when a suitable second hand set came into his shop, maybe a week later he called and said there was a set that would suit. Sin e. Don't see why the same process wouldn't work for a driver

    Would you not think that getting a fitting with range balls is inaccurate too?
    Granted you can't really use real balls on a range.
    I wonder would fore golf let you try out the combo that suited you on the golf course?

    Range balls can be a disaster. Trying out something new on range the other night and balls behaving really weird in air
    Fine on course. When the dimples start to wear down due to washing you can't trust them

    GC2 is what Youtubers Mark Crossfield, Rick Shields etc so must be good.

    However, I availed of a free fitting at American Golf (AG) a few months ago as I was thinking of changing the driver. The smash factor was 1.45 for every shot. The fitter explained (spoofed) to me that it was good because it was constant on all the shots. It was actually the same on every shot and I knew that this was not an actual reading but an assumed smash factor number by the computer.
    Therefore, i had no confidence i was hitting the ball out of the center of the club.

    I was also recently fitted on Trackman recently and the AG reading on clubhead speed was a few mph higher then Trackman's numbers.

    Being fitted indoors and not seeing the ballflight is also a bit disconcerting, IMO.

    Ended up going for a new G30 - over 100 quid cheaper and negligible difference in performance - only slight grumble would be the noise, very loud

    Lads how is the 915 going.

    Did hit it a few months ago - but wasn't singing great at time.


    May try something - on from a 910, have it 3 years now.
    Just to shake it up and inspire - think the 915 price is nuts to be honest.

    Anyone move away from Titleist , how is it going.

    Have stayed with A1 setting , think I wanted to know my true flight and not have it altered.

    Even great contact with the 910 , always felt dead, hard to put finger on it.

    I really like mine. I kind of want to mess around with the settings to see if I can get anymore out of it. I have developed the odd slice but as always that's my fault and not the clubs. I want the 3 wood to match it now. Mad money though.

    Great post. My only minor concern is that if you are spending 200 euro on an old driver with a suitable shaft for you, I'd always be worried that an old club may not be in good enough condition. There could be damage to the shaft that isn't visible to the eye and also with the face of the club.

    I bought the 913 and got fitted with it and the fitting process was brilliant and I have driven it really well since I got it. My shaft was an upgrade but I got the shaft and the driver for under €400. I have been using it for 3 years now and it was a brilliant investment. I left with a club, actually a shaft, that I knew was absolutely perfect for me. My driving accuracy for my last 50 rounds is 68.7% (via golfshot).

    I was tempted to look at the 915 but I have heard all the experts outlining that they haven't been able to add distance due to the limitations mentioned earlier in this thread. I haven't noticed any accuracy or distance drop since I got the club so I will keep going until maybe the 917.
