Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know! But honestly I just bought one today and am very impressed with the phone. For the money it's great, even has fm radio!

Even better so! I went ahead and rooted mine anyway for adaway. Couldn't use a phone without it.

Where does this phone rank against branded phones?

would it be equivalent to the HTC one M9 or Sony experia z4?

Haven't had either of those phones, I'd think its more like a beefed up moto g than a high end phone.

Looks like a great phone, better specs and cheaper price than Moto G!

Surely this has to be the best bang for buck smart phone on the market right now. I'm very tempted, as my Sumsung S4 has seen better days, the only thing holding me back is the camera tbh...

Think this is going to be the new
    ZTE san francisco or
    Huawei g300
Good specs for minimal price and available easily enough.
Probably better phones to be got from China but most people wont bother going down that road.

Bought one of these today online so should have it during the week.

Does anyone have a link for a screen protector and/or backcover /case for the phone? Looking everywhere online including eBay and it's mostly the other smart "prime" model that cones up!

Just thinking it's a very new handset and will probably be a while for anything to become available for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,799 ✭✭✭corwill

In any event, I'd recommend against Kingroot, it appears to send your IMEI to an unknown server in China, and funny stuff starts happening with data over WiFi. I'm still not confident I have all artifacts of it removed from my phone, will be doing a fresh reinstall ASAP on a C.A.P.

TL;DR - avoid Kingroot, await "proper" root from the likes of XDA.

Anywhere to get screen protectors or covers/cases online or in store? I just bought one online yesterday so should have it tomorrow... I'm Vodafone so I'll be using it straight out of the box but I always take care of my phones and have to put a case or something on straight away!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭MisterKipling

Bought this yesterday. Deleted all Vodafone apps easily and got it unlocked in less than an hour. Genuinely blown away by how stock android it is. Got it for my nephew. He's using it on three.
He has one issue regards Snapchat. It crashes when he's applying a filter. Can anyone help? Or check if they have same issue

Hmmm. I was holding out for my upgrade in September but this looks tempting to tide me over. The appeal of a bigger camera and screen is huge.

I was so close to buying this just now until I saw the dimensions. Its just too big for me.

Just purchased one online for my son. Looking forward to unlocking and rooting it for him. I've got a One Plus One and this is 85% of the performance of the OPO for half the price plus he'll easily sell the Note 2 I gave him for €100 so a serious upgrade for just €70 and no messing around with Chinese delivery times, quirky ROM's or apps etc. Stick a decent bumper case on it and it's a top phone for little money. No brainer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭rizzee

Just ordered 2 covers off AliExpress and a pack of screen protectors from eBay. Seem to get a lot more when you type in ZTE blade s6 plus like you said.

    Cheers.

I got a Leagoo Lead 1 for Christmas and was very happy with it until the screen cracked. Decided I'd upgrade to a 4G phone. Ordered two in the last couple of months. Cancelled the first one due to delays. Was waiting on a P7000 but cancelled that on Friday, again due to delays. Picked up a Smart 6 Ultra on Friday and I have to say I'm both delighted and impressed with it so far.

All except one of the Vodafone apps can be uninstalled and the one that can't can be disabled.

For those that haven't already found out it's NFC enabled which isn't on the specs anywhere.

Antutu score is just over 25000, with performance better than at least 50% of rival phone.

IMHO a great phone for the money.

on the ebay unlock site it says "IMPORTANT!!! IMEI numbers starting with 99xxx are not supported. Please do not place orders for this IMEI number as there is no way to enter the code"
does this not apply to this phone?
about to buy but dont want to get caught.
are they available instore or just online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭MisterKipling

Mine started with 35....don't know if all Vodafone Ireland phones start with that

AFAIK all Irish phones start with 358 or 359. No problem unlocking the phone here anyway.

Looks to be a big jump in specs over past vodafone smart-phones but also a very big jump in pricing.

The other vodafone smart phones are still for sale. This is like you said, a big jump in specs. It's to try cover all areas. The basic smartphone user and now the high end smartphone user.

Google's Nexus phones before 6 and also the ONE Plus ONE are/were great value high end phones.

Vodafone has decided it wants a slice of the cake, but for much cheaper than even Google & One+!

Hopefully vodafone will have one of their random sales and maybe pick it up for around €130

How does this compare with Samsung Galaxy S3? Thinking of upgrading

Going by the specs, it probably give the s4 a run for its money. Has better secondary camera and same front camera. Has a better battery life. Same Ram and operating system, not sure how the processor compares though.

Its a little heavier but it is slightly bigger.

Ita a great budget device, comparing it with an s4 is like comparing a Ferrari with a mini cooper.

This is a new device, the S4 is 2 years old now. It is a pretty fair comparison tbh....

All I'll say is that this is not a flagship top of the line device, but it is a fantastic spec for the money, and you really can't go too far wrong for that price.

It's more than a fair comparison and actually very similar specs.

Smart 6 Ultra = Octacore, 5.5" Full HD, great cameras, NFC, USB OTG ......
S4 = Octacore, 5.0" screen, NFC, USB OTG

Antutu score are very similar too

Most S4 sold here are quad core too...only very few actually had the octa core from memory. (typing from an S4 now bought in three now...).

Hmmmm, to buy or not to buy that is the question...might wait it out a while and see how people fair after a few months use. It's great to see this calibre of device sold in stores at this price. It's amazing:)

Can you get them phones in vodafone outlets at that price, or it is online only?

As someone mentioned about IMEI numbers which can't be unlocked, if you picked up in store, you can check IMEI before purchasing.

Yeah they are 169.99 in store also. No issue with unlocking these phones. All these will start with 358

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭fdevine

Can confirm same price in store as online. I picked mine up in store in Blanchardstown on Friday. Stock had only just arrived according to the staff member I dealt with.

IMEI# starts 358, so should be the same for all.

Was told by vodafone staff it was the same spec as iphone 6, is this true?

I think the s3 has the same spec as the iphone6, but that's 3 years old now.
The Vodafone staff member lied to you it sh1ts all over the iphone 6 specs wise, but android needs a bit more power than ios.

This looks decent, I reckon I'll pick one up on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭rizzee

Got mine this morning, Holy sh!t it's a lot lot better than I expected. Super quick, great screen. HAve it charging up now and installing all my apps.

Did someone mention here or the VF community forum about freezing while cahnging a filter on snapchat? Mine has done the same it just restarts the app! Everything else fine though.

I'll post my thoughts on the upcoming days but so far super value for money.

Was in my local Vodafone Store at lunch and there was no sign of the phone. Didn't ask staff as I didn't have time but I'm wondering if they are only in certain stores.

Might give then a ring later on.

No issues with Snapchat for me. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling?

It's working fine but its only when you try to apply a filter after taking a photo.

    I'll try un and reinstalling

But sure it isn't a deal breaker if it doesn't work I don't care :P

    EDIT: Same story when reinstalled.
