I was wondering where Pattersons Stadium had magically sprung up from, but it's the Subi :p

It could be a reasonably priced trip to Perth if you've got friends in the area.

    care to name them?

with the all ireland club scene starting now, a good few players will end up pulling out. the likes of Murphy and Donaghy for example should be involved, but i doubt they will.

I'll name what I can remember. Paul Flynn, James Mc Carthy, McAuley, Cluxton, O'Carroll and I think Cooper from Dublin. Can't remember if Kevin McMenamin was there, think he was. There all I can remember.

Heard that Colm O'Neill from Cork picked up a shoulder injury in training and won't be taking any further part.

MDMA won't be going. He has a fractured arm. Paul Flynn and Kev Mc were still playing games with their clubs as late as last weekend, so they wouldn't have been available for the training panels.

Thought Cluxton didn't travel to Oz before due to a fear of flying?

I think he is learning to conquor it. He went on a Dubs junket to New York & Boston last year.

most players are surely still involved with their clubs at this stage, even locally ?

like david moran would have played in the relegation play off for KOR last week, Donaghy, Donnacha Walsh and Darran O Sullivan are playing for their clubs in the final this weekened, 3 of those 4 players would surely be in the mix up for the squad.

i assume its the same in most counties now though you'd assume arrangements would be made for certain players to join up later.

David Moran for one was training with the IR panel a couple of days before that club game. Sure Michael Murphy played the first test last year the night before the Donegal County final didn't he?

I'm sure lads are double-jobbing with the lure of a trip to Australia in front of them.

very disappointing squad, you could argue that theres up to 15 of the top players in the country missing there, if not more.

I can't help thinking that there would have been a serious number of lads who wouldn't be interested enough to be taking time off work for this.

14 of the 25 named were in last year's squad.

Odd that Colm O'Neill is named with him being injured.

I wonder if the reason Aidan Walsh hasn't confirmed he's going hurling next year is that it could have led to a fair few awkward questions.

A fair few of those named are still involved in serious club action, so I'd expect a fair few to have to pull out before departure.

We're going to be in serious trouble with that squad IMO. As Bruschi has already laid out, the Aussies have an outstanding squad this year and with Ireland missing a lot of the best players from 2011 and 2013. The likes of Tuohy, Sheehan, Flynn, Shields, Kilkenny are all huge losses, particularly physically.

Only hope is that the Aussies struggle with the round ball in a one off game but with three of the best AFL coaches over the team and a squad full of stars against a relatively weak Irish selection it could get ugly

Maybe but the Shinty team wasn't exactly a selection of the best hurlers in the country either. I enjoy watching lads I wouln normally see playing, Leighton Glynn was the star player IMO for the last few series

Anyone know is the game being broadcast live in Ireland?

Glynn injured his hand training with the international rules squad earlier in the month and missed Rathnew's Leinster first round game yesterday because of it, it could be out for up to six weeks I think, big blow for Rathnew in Leinster.

Why isn't Zach Touhy or Tommy Walsh on it? The Aussies have a very good team out and I expect them to win easy.

Zach Tuohy and the other pair of Irish players at Carlton are doing preseason work with the club rather than this. Under orders. Not sure about Walsh, he is getting over a serious hamstring injury but he has been back playing.

I'm a big fan of the international rules series. Does anyone know if it can be watched live (on tv or through a website).

    Its on TG4 live

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,750 ✭✭✭iDave

Wish it was on RTE. There's just something about TG4 that makes everything seem small time. The GAA want this to work but put it on their little personal dumping ground channel usually reserved for club and leagues games.
Surely an olive should be extended to TV3 who were a pissed off by the Sky deal. Or heck even put it on Sky, it will give balls.ie another excuse to do a 'British Twitter reaction' article.

The fact someone is even asking this question shows this series is on it's last legs. I remember the days it was on RTÉ and it was advertised in every match programme throughout the summer and on TV in the weeks leading up to it. Now, hardly anyone knows it's actually taking place.

Wasn't Zach Tuohy playing for Portlaoise at the weekend - funny way of doing pre-season work!

Yup. Dont get it myself. Seeing as the Int Rules game is in Perth too. I think though Tuohy was going to be home anyway for family reasons, so he might have got the go ahead to play that. Mick Malthouse may have seen the IR game as too much. Plus the fact that Mick is a previous manager of the Aus team, maybe he is still wanting to do what he can to see them win.

He was already home for his sisters wedding and his child's christening which was on that week.
