Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's going to be an unpopular opinion, but I really don't like it. Yep, "futuristic" blah blah blah, but it's not a "formula" car, as it's not open wheels. Put some headlights on it and it's a sports prototype. Don't call it "Formula E" at this point, call it "E-Race" or something like that.

As a "race car", rather than a "Formula" car, it's ok-ish, even 'though the lines are extremely complex and convoluted - I find it funny that people complain about how "dirty" modern F1 racers look, compared to those of the '80s and '90s, then get excited about something that looks like a mini-4WD. Aesthetically often less is more - that's exactly the reason why cars like the Lotus 78 and the Jordan 191 are considered the most beautiful ever built.

I understand the need to capture the imagination of modern ADHD Youtube-grown kids, but I feel they're missing an important train here - with a more conventional, F1 or F2 like design if you will, they'd deliver the message that electric traction doesn't really require a complete revolution of everything you know about cars; In layman terms, "look, electric motors are good enough to power what is basically a F1 car".
Instead, they're going the "cool new thing" route, which is always divisive.

Funny that you say that, a friend of mine is working in the automobile industry and developing E-cars and one of their biggest challenge is the interior sound as we are so conditioned to the petrol or diesel engine noise that a silent car causes stress as a rolling silent petrol car would do.
Same with people on the outside that are conditioned to rely on their ears and while they should look left and right, very often only listen to conclude if a street is safe to pass.

In all fairness...unless you live in a town full of Lambos and Ferraris, most modern-ish (say, last 20 years) cars don't produce that much engine noise when traveling at city speeds - the most of the sound is tire rolling noise, of which EVs produce just the same level.

It does look a little bit fat. More like an indycar than f1 car

Piquet had a blistering start, and Heidfeld, Lopez, Mortara and one other guy all got eliminated in crashes, bringing out the safety car.

3e missing some of it by going to ad break too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,394 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Oh in the back of his teammate. Lucky they both got away with that.

    Rosenqvist sniffing a podium

Very lucky if the top two get away with that

Hard to see there not being some incident before the end

lol, nope. The old VLC stream was actually working today and worked for most of the practices and quali. But outside of that, VPN unlocking the YouTube stream; or there's a bloke on the FE subreddit that streams the world feed for those geoblocked.

Pet peeve - why the heck to British commentators call it "FormulaR E" or "Formula RE"? I mean, quite literally all of them do so - how hard is it to say "Formula E"?

Clean start for Rosenqvist and good start from Buemi, I'll be happy if he gets held up a bit behind Turvey

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

    Ah crap

Back of the heel whack for the mechanic looked painful

I like that they've removed the minimum pit stop time. More chance of errors which spices it up.

Penalty coming for the dodgy Pitstop I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 103 ✭✭determinations

It's such a dull track, very few overtaking opportunities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,394 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Hoping there will be some move for second or third before the end. Hasn't been great

Stupid of 3e to go to ads with 3 laps to go

Its unbelievable really, not to cover the final laps, ads still on as the cars cruise to a stop
Fortunately was able to switch to 5spike.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Well **** you very much 3e. Somebody needs a slap for that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

3e are you actually serious?!! Take an ad break with 3 laps to go so we miss the finish?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,394 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Probably worth complaining to formula E about the coverage, 3e shouldn't be allowed broadcast live motorsport after that

Sadly I was stuck with what I had. So disgusted by that in all honesty. The race wasn't great fair enough but racing fans watch from flag rise till flag drop.

Last race I will watch on 3e

Rather download it and watch the complete race that way.

And this is why dodgy online streams, VPNs and the secret VLC link will always be the most popular choices for tuning in to F-E.

3e are an absolute disgrace. I was really pissed we did not get to see the last few laps. Really miss the ITV coverage. It was a thousand times better than 3e. I think it's 3e and TV3 that we need to complain too.

I might do that. I put in a complaint with tv3, but not likely to get anywhere.
Last race I ever watch on tv3/3e

    7.8kwp South facing, Slane.
