Please do leave it at that @Cantona's Collars and EvertythingGood - if an assault has has occured, has been reported and is being investigated, it's probably best not to speculate & argue about it here.

Only in Enniscorthy would you see a crowd of travellers trying to get a jeep out of snow while drinking large bottles of Guinness. :):)

Funny how they all found their way to The Holy Grail for free feeds. Meanwhile staff in St.Johns had to sleep there instead of going home in the interests of patients.
Castle Hill and Castle Street looked like it didn't see a shovel, let alone a plough or gritter.

Did anyone see the pics of Ferns on the telly? Completely covered in compacted ice and Snow, not a sign of a bit of grit never mind a scraper. Wexford county council are a joke it was the very same in 2010, cars going sideways down Munster Hill and council workers fixing up the plants in the boat at the bottom of the hill.

They sent a lot of them home, apparently nothing for them to do. They must have no shovels.
Some difference to the scenes on Sky News with council workers and volunteers together shovelling ice and snow off footpaths and clearing streets in UK towns.

Drove to the airport last night, N11 fairly good all the way, need to slow down between Ferns and Gorey, but fine past Clogh.

Don't think the council does the N11.

Motorways have their own maintenance teams, Councils do all the N and R roads. The problem is in towns where the Council and NRA (or whatever they call themselves now) pass the buck to each other when a national route runs through said town.

Schools in town closed tomorrow while some rural ones are open.

The dept left it to each individual school to decide whether they would open or not. I would imagine, road conditions, bus services, possible snow damage etc were taken into consideration before a decision either way was made.

Not all sit at home and watch Jeremy Kyle every day. ;)

No but you should be able to organise something for your kids, at the end of the day they are the parents responsibility. Have friends or family look after them or work from home. School isn't a babysitting service just to allow you to go go to work/get a break from your kid.

If a child went to school today and fell on some snow, or another kid threw a snowball at him/her and that child fell and broke his arm the parents would be complaining about the childs safety.

The best option is to close the schools until the school grounds are safe again.

    No snow in the classroom.;)

On another topic, the Slaney is starting to rise and all the tributaries. I see Anton Treacy has already made plans for any floods. No harm in being prepared just in case.

Calling all shops & cafes in our little town. We have all suffered forced closure & loss of business from snow. Staff & owners & customers.
Why not where possible consider opening Saturday St. PATRICK'S day instead of Monday? Or if possible open 1/2 day Saturday. 9am to 1pm or 10am to 2pm. A large crowd is expected in town between 12 and 2 for the parade.
Some staff might benefit from bank holiday bonus pay or time off on Monday when schools close. Shops and cafes could where possible offer special offers or incentives to encourage people to come to town earlier. Everyone could then enjoy the big match after the parade and shout on Ireland for the Grand Slam. This may not suit everybody out there, there is no one size fits all, but we need to start thinking outside the box to keep business in town and provide a decent service to our customers."

That's forward thinking, the parade is on at 1pm,it'll be over by 2.30 at the latest.I'm sure staff wouldn't mind swapping hours from Bank Holiday Monday (which will be dead around town anyway) and do them Saturday instead.
At least somebody is trying to do something.I think the rest of the businesses should do the same.
In other retail news,we should see some development on the Old Dunnes site sooner rather than later.

    I think it's a great idea.
The old Dunnes building is the only hope for Rafter Street. Having it open again would bring new life to the other businesses that are struggling on that street.

Dawson's have taken over Robbie's (The Pub) in Market Square. A good bit of revamping work going on there at the moment.

Is it the original Dawson family that have taken over Robbies or is it the 2 people who run Dawsons pub now on the Duffry. ??

Hopefully Robbies will get a decent bit of sign-writing this time.

Did I hear that Dealz might be behind the rumours about the old Dunnes stores property?

Meanwhile on Sunday various younger members of our ethnic population ran amok throwing stones in St. Mary's Church and breaking a window in the Church Institute...:(
