Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Starting sporting clays

    Hello,

I've been plugging away with the new shotgun for the last couple of months and I'd like to try a sporting clays competition now.

    Can anyone here recommend something?
Am based in West wicklow and have a semi (are they allowed in competitions?)

Any and all advice would be great - looking for something small and informal, just to get a sense for how competitions go.

Also - what happens if you get a jam when shooting in a comp? Does that count as a miss or is the bird re-presented?

Under this post in my sig line you'll see links for clay ranges and rifle ranges. Click on the clays first then on the rifle ranges as some rifle ranges also cater for clays. This will give you a starting point for locations to try.

Semi autos are fine, but you only load two rounds at a time. Also make sure you have the bolt open and back when not shooting to show it's clear or even a breach flag.

As for misses. If you have a jam or misfire then you usually get another go, but make sure to raise your hand and call an RO who will walk you through the process of clearing any jam or help you with a misfire/hang fire.
