Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It will be very soon. Maybe even by the end of the week.

So if they take on more new 4 day drivers over the next few months is there a chance that some of the current 4 day drivers who started earlier this year may move onto the 5 day junior spare rota?

Yes. It will vary garage to garage though.

I think it was agreed that, after the first 70 4 day week drivers have been taken on, one driver will move up to the junior 5 week rota for every additional driver recruited on the 4 day week.

The company have to give a statement of employment, eg Kopparberg worked as ***** from **** to ****. As you have listed that job you should insist that they do so and if possible provide another person in the same company who can give you a personal reference.

In fact a former colleague of mine in CIE got a letter of that sort from our direct manager when he asked for a reference when leaving (on good terms) It may be standard policy as it is in a lot of companies now so they shouldn't have any issue with your current employer only giving that.

A disgusting way to treat people that work for you but that is the reality of many workplaces these days. Oh and don't let all the BS about CIE being run for the convenience of the staff. This is not true, it is far from the worst job out there but there are plenty of arsehole managers and inspectors in the place, it is certainly not the socialist paradise many of the numptys in C&T portray it as.

Hi guy's, I've been called for the written exam at long last. Has anyone got any advice, is there anything I can do to prepare?
    Any insight would be great.
    Thanks....

Hi is very basic assessment test.
Honestly I dont see what you can prepare before do this test !!

You just need calculate some fares stage basic mathematics and interpretation of phrases,
kids pay less when going to school only ;-) .
    example :
1 adult take 7 stage + 1 kid going to school = how much is it?
3 adult take up 13 stage + 2 kid = how much is it?

they tell in the paper stages prices !!!!

After you need write some letter to your supervise informing some incident ""they will tell some idea in the day"" around 200 words you need write telling all relevant facts was happened to your supervise like Garda reported accident :-D

In the end you need fill 200 questions multiple choice ..... this will tell to the physiologic your type of person .... Try to answer true all ... This questions give a little bit of your self in the end of results.....

    Questions are like:

What people think about you ? ( ) funny .... ( ) open mind .... ( )dont like talk too much
Do you like cinema or theatre?

    All the best

You may have missed the cut off for christmas, they don't want new entrants in the school over christmas, not sure how long new entrants spend in the school but count back that amount of time 4 or 5 weeks and that is around now, so I would imagine this week or next week is the last ones to start before christmas, in which case the next ones would be early January so you probably won't hear from them till early December maybe ???

    Dont think so.

i heard there was another aptitude test at the weekend, another few hundred.......

I was up in the school on Tuesday on a training course, and 9 have started this week, and a similar number the previous week. They are certainly churning them out.... Haven't seen the school as busy in years.

    Hi all,
Just a quick question. Would anyone know if they are going to advertise again? I just missed the last cut-off point for application. I did my bus test the week after! I know the Dublin bus website says 'no vacancies' but the application form is still there. Should I send it in anyway or wait in the hope they look for more applicants?!
    Thanks

You do not have to be foreign for to get difficult passengers and other road users.

Also be prepared to deal with all sorts from happy and friendly to absolutely disgustingly filthy, smelly, aggresive and threats and pretty much anything you can imagine.

Thank you for a fast reply. I have met lots of people which you mentioned, but I have never had serious problem with us. I am a very calm person and I like may job (driving the bus), and i like the challenges in my job.
What the foreigner can do to take up a job as a bus driver? Does I have change my driving license or Hungarian license (european union license) is accepted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

You would be elligible for the job once you hold the licence for the bus and have all cpc up to date.

Things may have changed but when I started if you had a foreign licence you would have to swap out for an Irish, now this may have changed so can't answer that.

If you have good english that is needed and obviously pass all db tests and medical you would be given the job but it has gotten very difficult.

    "db tests and medical "

Could you give me some examples what this test look like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭rx8

The recruitment campaign is live again NOW.
    See Here
The first stage is an aptitude test, not very difficult, some basic maths is all that's needed and to be able to write a report on an incident.
Stage 2 is a driving assessment, followed by a short interview.
Stage 3 is the Medical, then if your references check out, the job is yours.
2 weeks in the training school learning all about ticket machines, company policies etc. and type training on all the different buses. This is paid with dinner each day included. Then 2-3 weeks of mentoring in your new garage on "Nursery" routes,( ones that are not so busy), before you would be out on your own. Then over the following 2-4 months you will be mentored and trained on all the other routes in the Garage.
If I've left something out,I'm sure some of the other guys will mention anything I missed.

......Stage 3 is the Medical, then if your references check out, the job is yours.....
How long that may take ??
My references was checked out over 3 weeks ago and still no call from them.
They forget about me? Something went wrong ?
Ufff... waiting is the most difficult recruitment stage...

    Hello

Is there any company who provides bus service in Dublin apart of DublinBus?
Because I think I have not many chance to manage to get in DublinBus without any experience driving bus in Ireland, and refrences. :S

    No

This is a company rule same as no ear phones, no Bluetooth handsfree for phone etc.

If I didn't have the tunes I would go nuts all together.

    No.

You're trained on all the routes you will be driving so no need for GPS, if you get lost you contact central control via the radio and they direct you if necessary. If caught using a phone in service expect a visit to see your manager!

While personally I don't use a radio, there a quite a few drivers who do.
The company maintain that it's a distraction, and anything that distracts the driver can lead to an accident.
They are particularly aggressive now on someone talking to the driver, be it a passenger, or a co-worker, after a recent court case in which someone was awarded over 6million euro. That driver was chatting with a colleague when a kid was pushed out onto the road in front of him and things didn't end well.

It's very rare I notice a radio but the drivers friend is very common.

If management want it to stop they aren't succeeding

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

If I or you or anyone for that matter are driving a car and happen to have passengers onboard and we are listening to the radio and chatting away does this mean if someone that stupidly runs out and is hit who is to blame as from some of these cases that have gone to court where db have been really punished and have done nothing wrong.

The case of the student who ran out and got awarded millions the driver was not even talking but because a passenger had asked something and talking had stopped for over 4 seconds and bus was travelling well under the speed limit and driver done all he could without warning the judge still decided he was or would have been distracted.

All I can say is its a horrible thing to happen to the teenager but also feel terrible for the driver.

Everyone should be made more aware of the dangers of the roads and how to cross them and actually take some responsibility for their own actions.

Its BS the one and only reason they dont want radios is because of the recording music rights, and you have to pay to play music in a public place, how can a radio be distracting for a city bus driver but no one else ? Not private motorists, not taxi drivers, not other bus drivers, truck drivers, etc etc it can only apparently distract DB drivers they must be a special breed of easily distracted drivers so.
