I have forgiven Toby for my face, it's not looking too bad today, scared a kid from the preschool in the place I work yesterday.

Really hoping it heals up quick, can't even cover it with makeup since my skins so sensitive I rarely wear any, even then it's very light, not the kind of stuff to cover 3 big scratches.

Saw some kids with their new puppies where I work, pups look barely 6 weeks, maybe only 5, "sure they're eating a week, gotta get em young for the kids" is what I was told when I said they were too young to be away from the mother.
And worse still, kids had them on the street, there was a big parvovirus outbreak last year, bosses dog nearly died despite being vaccinated. We know of 5 dogs who died and 3 more were very ill.

Aaaaargggghhhh, they'd really test your patience someday!

I had to leave Elly and Tara outside this afternoon while I was in college. Got home, let them in, fed them, then had to pop across the road.

Because I was only going to be 20 mins, figured they'd be fine not crated. Baby gate was up to stop them getting out of kitchen.

So..... I get back to find Elly had managed to get over the gate. Ok not a problem, or so I innocently thought! Cue me checking the bedrooms to find she had pooed on our spare bed and weed on our bed!!!! B#@##y dog!!!

We were window shopping at bedlinen yesterday, if I'd the money I could buy pretty much everything in BT's bedding section:D. It occurred to me that no matter how much money we had or how gorgeous the bedlinen would be, there'd still be a flannel throw on the bottom of the bed as Toby insists on it or he won't stay on the bed. I often find myself buying duvet covers based on what's most likely to hide cat fur rather than which ones I really like.:)

Same here, even went for a dark coloured sofa this time.
I have a selection of throws for every room.

Toby is so fussy about throws. He loves fleece throws on the sofa and on his armchair, but not on the bed:confused: Even in the hottest weather we had to put a flannel duvet cover across the end of our bed. Strange chap.

I bought some new soft blankets for the dogs in penneys (all gone down to less than €3!) but since I've been sick the last few days I ended up keeping one for myself :pac:

Y'know, I never really liked rottweilers, they never appealed to me at all.

Now everyone at work lets me know if there's a rottweiler around... because all I do nowadays is play and wrestle (well, they tackle me and I just go with it!) with every rottweiler I see. Omg they are such big babies, they are the cutest lumps I've ever met. I could imagine they'd be bloody hard work though, with possibly wanting to play with you all the time lol!

lol Lucy's best friend is a Rottie boy named Bear! :pac:

Why is it always me that gets jumped on first, bitten (puppy), followed to the loo, pushed out of the way and generally followed wherever I go.

I am currently sat on the couch with a damp pup snuggled into me, the smell of wet dog is almost worse than the smell of cow poop she rolled in earlier.

When does my OH get a turn - I'd like a minutes peace please!!

I'm on holidays at the minute and had the most horrible realistic dream last night. Ozzie collapsed and had to be brought to UCD hospital. They eventually said they couldn't do anything and he had to be PTS. When we went in to say goodbye his little body was all swollen and he was in so much pain.

I wish it wasn't the middle of the night at home so I can Skype my mam to see him :-(

I would have felt the same about rotties for a long time, but my in-laws have had them over the years, all females who they never bred from, and they are lovely dogs. Very playful, gentle and clever dogs. It's a shame they have such short lives.

I'm so bloody annoyed now. I phoned the guards this morning as there was a staffie or bull terrier breed, not sure which, running loose in the neighbourhood and I was worried it might hurt another animal. I know they aren't all vicious but a lot of them have the wrong kind of owners and either way it shouldn't have been loose. Saw a post on Facebook that a neighbour came home to find their rabbit and guinea pig torn apart in the garden this morning.

Obviously it might not be the same dog, but it really pisses me off that people let their dogs roam. It's just not safe.

Amazed at Lucy. I was teaching her stay one evening MONTHS ago and never got back around to continuing (oops!) so spent about 10-15 mins the on Sunday practising again with me walking away from them in the garden.. Yesterday she stayed sitting while I went to the bin in the park and this morning she stayed lying down beside Bailey even though she could see my friend coming!! :D

I'm still ill and was up almost all night so I went up to the kitchen and Found out at 6am this morning that Alli can now open her crate door from the inside apparently, she was waltzing around the kitchen delighted with herself! She didn't destroy anything either so I might chance leaving her out tonight :)

My daughters cousin is over from London, it's been a sad week or so for everyone due to a bereavement, so her friends have invited her to bring him out to there houses for "the authentic irish experience" :D
They are going to teach him to drive a quad, tractor, ride a horse (hopefully not the ex racehorse) milk a cow, collect fresh eggs, and whatever else they can come up with!
Just about to drop them off, I hope they don't break him!

After lots of requests (ok, only one request:D) to see Coco & Benson helping pluck apples off the tree I finally got them on camera. And only just in time, there's not many low hanging apples left!

I have no idea how to make the video appear on the screen so hopefully the link works!

    That's comical!

Just spotted Tara chewing something in the garden, looked a bit odd so I went over to check it. She had managed to dig up a potato and was having a good chomp on it!

I took Felix to the vet for his booster this morning. I had to resort to cat nip to get him into a standing position on the sofa, they're on to me with the chicken and he was giving me the snake hisses. His weights gone up again.:( It's such a battle with his weight. I hate the idea of him potentially developing diabetes, joint problems or any of the awful problems that can accompany fat cats.

The problem is that in a multicat household it is very hard to control what he eats. We switched to the Bozita tins a few months ago so that he'd be eating less and feeling fuller on that. He's not the kind of cat that's really interested in play either. We've tried Da Bird, the mouse, undercover mouse, ball toys, dangly toys, the list goes on and on. Plus he's an indoor/outdoor cat who likes to visit with cat friendly neighbours who ignored the 'please don't feed me I'm on a special diet' tag.

Me and my bf were about to get into the car to go to the shops when we seen next doors dog escape. The gran was in minding the kids for the night and he managed to get out when she opened the door to some dogs trust people. We set off in the car and spent the best part of an hour trying to find him. Because we were in the carI had to jump out and run across the estate and grab him once we spotted him. He was a Springer and quite strong so I nearly lost him a few times trying to get him back to the car! Thank God he was very friendly!

I washed smelly girl's smelly head this evening - she was not impressed!! :pac:

Nice of you to go after the dog, I've done it myself a few times for people. My fella would run too if he got a chance, but thankfully he only goes two doors up at the farthest. I'm down last but one on a narrow cul de sac, he just likes a chase and then comes back in, but it's a pain trying to catch him or herd him in, he has been known to run up into the neighbours house after her dog, right into the livingroom!
I felt terrible at first when he did it, but they have a pup that comes into our house if she can, so don't feel so bad now.

Tk, my daughter was eating shepherds pie and beans on the sofa the other night, she was watching tv and some spilled off the side of the plate, little piggy Tiffi had to go clean the floor and she got some on her head. I only noticed the next morning when Tiffi got on my lap and I could smell dried in beans and shepherds pie! (I wasn't home when it happened, had to ask why dog smelled like dinner, took 10 mins to confess about eating on the sofa)

:pac: :pac: Bailey is driving my mum demented - sitting opposite her on his mat with a squinting/begging face on him lifting his paw up to her non stop grumbling at her! She already gave him so treats to see if it would stop him but it didn't!!

Thats lovely! Do they eat the apples?!?
My apples & pears arent anywhere near ready to eat yet.
Walked around the cross country in Punchestown this a.m - Ive never seen so many blackberries (not quite ready yet) but theres literally buckets loads of them if anyone looking for them!

Do dogs 'scent' each other?! The rottie's owner is telling everyone that's what Lucy is doing but I've never heard of it before in classes or...well anywhere!! Is she a bit of a bully do you think or is it ok because they're mutually flattening each other lol!! :p (Background noise from my friend yapping lol!)

I was having a bath this evening for the first time since my surgery cos I wasn't allowed with stitches in. Peach decided I needed supervision and sat on the laundry hamper watching me the whole time. It was quite unnerving! Anyone else have bathroom creeps??

I didn't realise Felix was on my husbands side of the bed this morning, so when I kicked off the duvet and turned over I accidentally kicked him:( Poor cat, I haven't forgiven myself yet and he hasn't forgiven me either. I tried to pet him and reassure him straight away and he gave me a warning that if I touched him he'd bite me.

The odd one gets nibbled, but as far as Coco is concerned, apples are just balls that grow on trees and should be thrown, not eaten! Benson has no heed in eating or throwing them at all! He just does it for the glory :pac:
We have pears too and they get eaten a lot more as they're far sweeter.

With all these threads on the huge spiders I am on edge! I only found two in the house over the summer and that was enough! They only seem to appear when I'm on my own. I haven't found any this month yet , hoping they stay out in the shed!

I was out yesterday and picked the dogs up two brand new coats, both €40 each reduced to €10 and €13! Alli's is a bit too big for her so I'll have to alter it a bit when their going for their walks in the colder weather

Which bit is she meant to be scenting in, when she sits on the other dog? I think they're just playing, and she got tired. What has the rottie got around its neck?

His muzzle for show lol!! She sits on him or stands over him...but he does exactly the same to her. Yer man keeps telling everyone she's scenting him which just sounds bizarre? She'd play the same way with Bailey - one is lying down and one is doing all the bouncing around then they swap over. Dominance theory has been thrown about too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,610 ✭✭✭muddypaws

ah yes, thats what I see, a very dominant bitch, surprised she hasn't peed on him lol. Do dogs have scenting glands? I know that huskies usually have a black mark on their tails, which is where there used to be a scent gland, but the gland itself isn't there anymore, just the mark remains, to remind them of their wild, wolf existence ;)

No I don't think they have scenting glands because they're not cats!! :p I'm sure I would have heard about it by this stage if they do. She plays with him until she gets tired and then plays with him at 50% capacity taking lots of breaks so sits or stops what she's doing and just stands there taking a breather! :P

Someone locally took in a cat they found wandering and put it on Facebook trying to find the owners or someone to take it as they can't keep her. The latest update is that they're putting her back out today. What the feck is wrong with people? All they'll be doing is confusing her and dumping her on the street. I've suggested a rescue to them but no response as yet. It's the same apartment complex as we found Poppy in.

I'm really hoping it's just a case of the cat having sneaked out of one of the apartments and not a case of the place becoming a dumping ground for cats.

Buntys been sick again the past few days, started sneezing on saturday and her eye started running on sunday, was away on holidays and didn't get home til tuesday and brought her to the vets that evening. Vet thinks it could be an infected tooth but since she was in good form and eating she just gave her antibiotics and was told to hold off on a dental for a week or two.

She would only eat chicken yesterday and today she's a bit off form and didn't eat anything. Poor thing is still sneezing and she has a discharge from one of her nostrils. I went and bought all sorts of meats and smelly foods to tempt her and not a pick until I sat down with my fish fingers dinner, she sat staring at me until I gave her some and the little fecker cleared two full fish fingers minus the breading that I had to pick off. So not only am I going hungry but my dinner went cold while I picked off all the breading and handfed her. At least I'm happy knowing she's eaten something.

Ringing the vets first thing in the morning again to see what to do next. I'v a feeling a dental on monday morning, fingers crossed it's only a few teeth to be pulled and nothing more sinister as she did say her right lung sounded a little off. She's not long recovered from a uti a few weeks ago and her lung sounded a little off then too but she said it could just be scarring from flu she had as a kitten as she had no other respiratory problems at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭mymo

Our old boy jake had really bad cat flu as a kitten and has scaring too, he gets bouts of snottiness, with sneezing and raspy breathing, shot of anti biotics, few tablets and he's fine in a week.
He's very raspy too tonight, and sneezed a bit too, so looks like another vet visit.
Grey fluffy kitten has gunky eyes, vet thinks it's just conjunctivitis rather than flu (she's not vacc'd as I can't afford it and she was supposed to be going to a new home, who were going to do it all, which has fallen through) so looks like I'll be paying for that too once this clears up.
On the up side vet didn't charge me for the visit!
Just €15 for cream and tablets to clear it up.

Bailey is 3 weeks post op today. There's one area of the park that I can't let him off lead for the time being because of the bushes - I haven't let him off there for nearly 2 months now for fear he could eat something that could do damage while his mouth was healing after the first biopsy, then the second and right up until now after the op.. Earlier on he was excited to see somebody (he was on lead by my side so wasn't going anywhere) she decided to hold him tightly by his collar with one hand on either side thinking she was Cesar Milan or something. I was terrified he'd try to pull free and basically get boxed in the side of the face....but so annoyed the words didn't come out! Kicking myself now for not saying something to her!

Had an awful evening. My parents are away for the week and my sister who just came home from oz is minding meg. Anyway she rang me in work saying she couldnt find meg and eventually found her in field in front of our house but she couldnt walk and there were loads of flys around her. She got her into the house and she said her breathing was very shallow and she wasnt sleeping just lying there. Told her to call vet and he said he thought she might have had heart attack and to bring her up. I was still in work now crying so my boss told me to take off.
Poor meg wagged her tail when we were carrying her out to the car, she loves going to my house cos she is allowed on the couch! Crying all the way to the vets as are my sisters... he checked her heart and said it was weakened and she definatly had a heart attack, he then said he was going to shave under her tail because he was afraid fly had layed eggs and sure enough there were loads of them. Most disgusting thing ive seen. He said they would have hatched by morning and she would have fly strike.
Good news is she is still with us and he said she should improve with medication but to not let her out on her own as she is still weak. Had her out on lawn when we got back to see if she would go to the toilet but she just went over to my car to try and go home with me! Would have brought her back with me but my moms house is much quieter. Even though she is 15 im not ready for her to go. I got her when i was 13 and she is the reason i love dogs.
