Race Related Garbage Creeping into After Hours

Look we've had a discussion on misogyny and I think this sort of stuff is even more prevalent. There seems to be a certain group of posters who do nothing but try to stoke up racial tensions in After Hours and I am quite frankly sick of it.

I know its a tough line as everyone should be allowed to express their opinions but its becoming increasingly obvious that certain posters have a very clear agenda and are actively trying to cause resentment for people of differing ethnicities, religions, races.

Am I alone on this? I can't be the only one noticing this....

Not to mention the endless 'all dole recipients are scum' or 'here's the latest piece of emotive garbage from the Indo' threads.

If you commit any sort of crime murdering, castrating, raping, hanging or beating them is apparently fine.

Any examples of this? Serious question as i dont follow AH closely enough.

As for the dole threads, i agree they are a pain in the ass but its a discussion of recent news. Why should we taboo something that exists in national news, instead why not try and ensure its a constructive thread.

There's been 3 threads in after hours locked today alone.

I am not talking about dole threads, different matter. I am talking about the section of posters in AH that are quite obviously going out of their way to bring race into every topic.

Seems like the mods are doing their job, humanji even commented on it when he locked the thread?

They generally don't last very long. They can't help themselves.

I don't speak for AH but in general mods can't just ban someone permanently for a first offence. Posters need to build up a history of bad behaviour before they can't be gotten rid of. This invariably means that we (as boards users) need to tolerate them for a while. Some heed the warnings and turn into good contributors whereas others are only headed one place.
The best thing to be done is to keep reporting posts -especially in a busy forum like AH where mods could not possibly read everything that is posted.

They are being watched. :) We talk about it nearly every day via mod channels.

Definitely not alone. There are a few posters constantly soapboxing about Rotherham and about any and all crimes by anyone and everyone who isnt a white irish christian.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Are the posts inherently racist or has it a racist agenda ?

Ah is used as a mechanism for many to soapbox including lgbt issues and mental health. Where is the line drawn on what's ok to soapbox and what not ?

Some are inherently racist, some have an agenda.

You'd have to ask ah mods where they draw the line.

I know in other fora soapboxing would be continuously stating the same thing over and over and not really engaging in any discussion.

I dont think there is a line drawn on topics at all really. Soapboxing is soapboxing.

Makes sense, the only reason i ask is to clarify the question further. It seems like the mods are definitely taking action, so i would be surprised if someone really racist was still posting.

Its a pain in the ass to really monitor, you can see undercurrents of a few different agenda's in the forum.

I'm not sure that I agree that certain elements are 'creeping in' to After Hours, or any other parts of the site. As long as the internet exists, there are gong to be trolls and keyboard warriors out there that are going to try to find a platform fro their ignorance, and no matter what rules you put in place, you're never going to stamp that out. It's how it's handled by the moderators that's important - and from what I can see at least, it's handled by the moderators in AH quite admirably. Intelligent debate is fostered, bigotry is stamped out as quickly as possible.

However, it's also worth remembering that sometimes its necessary to let a thread run for a few posts to see what side of the fence it falls on. Additionally, it can take a few posts to get a feel for the poster in question - some people are out and out trolls, others just word their point of view badly, and sometimes it can take a little time to distinguish between the two.

The mods in ah are doing a fantastic job. Whats happening a lot at the moment is that there a few posters with agendas who post enough to provoke but also just enough to keep under the radar

For transparency purposes, we users would like access to all these discussions in the AH mod forum.

Names can be tipexed out if it's called for.

I'm a foreign national - but the kind of foreign national who people forget is foreign after a short time.

In real life, I occasionally hear some quite extraordinary race-related statements from people who I would otherwise have thought are nice people, said in places where they think there are no foreign nationals.

I would suspect that race-related posts on boards often simply reflect these attitudes - and it is perhaps more healthy for them to be expressed and exposed to the light, then send underground.

Is this issue still being monitored, coz it seems to have exploded over the last few weeks, which may be understandable but surely cannot be justified as far as rules go.

Saying 'x isn't a race', is no defense for being bigoted and hateful against a specific group of people.

Some contend that the Daily Sport is banned in Ireland due to its overt sexism and pornographic tendencies, but its really because its a pile of ignorant, hateful, knuckle dragging pish.

AH used to have a healthy mix of both on offer. Not so much any more. The place is resembling the likes of Stormfront more and more every day.

It might help if you stopped ranting about Stormfront, abusing posters and showing youtube videos of EDL planks on an Irish forum. Better again, stop trying to raise issues of race when they are patently and demonstrably not the issue.

Or maybe you could stop searching through users histories and bringing years old posts up in that thread. I mentioned Stormfront once in it, and it's relevant to some of the clearly bigoted shit being spouted by you and others

"cancer from the sands of the orient"... and talk about closing borders down for specific groups of people

Just because you say the stuff being posted has nothing to do with race doesn't make it so. Anyone with a hint of cop on can see through that bullcrap line.

What does the fact that it's an Irish forum have to do with anything, and why should I not post videos of EDL planks? A lot of the views they express are shared by posters in that thread. And this being an 'Irish forum' hasn't stopped you from citing examples from abroad as a justification for why we as a nation should act in a certain way towards people.

It's rich for you to go through post histories anyway. I just did the same, and it's now beyond doubt that you have a very clearly bigoted view of all things race & immigration related. No wonder you got so defensive at the mention of Stormfront

You are quoting another poster here and this is not the thread for discussing the issues you have raised. If you see a racist post REPORT IT and stop constantly whining about defunct racist websites when you are unable or unwilling to discuss the issues like an adult.

AH used to have a healthy mix of both on offer. Not so much any more. The place is resembling the likes of Stormfront more and more every day.

I see an increase in anti-religious posts since I lasted posted here in a closed account 2 years ago, mostly anti-Catholic ( see two in AH right now about the pope) but was anti -Islamic recently. There are fewer discussions about immigration and travellers etc. not much racism as far as I can see but I don't go into the americanised threads where people get upset about brown guys killing black guys 3000 miles away. I assume that most posters in those threads are American though.

If My Name is Url gets his way and criticism of Islam is banned then goodbye boards. I am sure there are highly regulated fora in some campus intra nets which might better suit.

I quoted the same post here as in the other thread, in both instances you decided to respond to it for whatever reason. I never suggested you were the one to post what I quoted.

Says who, and what makes you think I haven't reported it? This is a feedback thread and I'm pretty sure I'm providing feedback relevent to the topic of the thread.

Also you have a funny definition for the word defunct.. that site is pretty popular and active still.

Where have I called for that, exactly? Big difference between criticising a religion and suggesting that people of a certain religion not be allowed to enter the country etc.

I'm sure you know that already but keep on attempting to blur the line between the two things anyway ;)

I already stated I am not discussing another threads issue over here. A more relevant topic here is the naked attempt to introduce and use race to censor topics or have users banned by posting racist links, insulting posters gratuitously and generally (in the parlance of old) flaming/flame baiting. Not to mention the less than subtle back seat modding component that goes with it.

Coming over here and whinging because people aren't playing your games, following your infraction on thread, is childish.

The problem isn't criticism of Islam (because there's little of that), it's the utterly deranged, paranoid ramblings from people who go on and on (and on) about how Muslims are threatening to take over Europe, etc.. People using a horrible tragedy as a platform for their hobby horses.

I can't even be arsed getting involved anymore because it's impossible to discuss the matter.

    This^^^^

So many posters over the last week have posted derogatory remarks about Muslims (one even suggested concentration camps for them) just because a tiny minority are murderous ****wits does not make them all murderous ****wits.
