I think the issue was addressed in the later models and I have the precursor to this engine which also doesnt have this problem.

    Buy a late model 8er and tell her it's a classic. ;)

I only aspire to buying petrol, as of now, I won't be at any time soon!

Well it was Petrol, the LPG was only an optional addition for a prospective economy gimp owner. :D

So today hard new how my old Fiesta was doing.

Not bothered to do the NCT, smashed windscreen, being sold on for peanuts.

I loved refurbishing that little car and it really pains me to hear it in that condition :(:(:(

It's sad to see alright, but that's the reality with a lot out there. A car is just a car and fcuk servicing and looking after it.

Tis the way indeed. I was gutted to see the drop link in bits, m+s tyre blown apart and the strut completely ruined. Sometimes I wonder why I bother trying to restore a car only to let some idiot completely ruin it :(

If I'm going to NCT a car does it need to be insured or taxed?

    Yup.

****e. What if I haul it up on a trailer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,106 ✭✭✭✭TestTransmission

    Yup.

    You sure about that? :)

I think so. I think it has to be taxed anyway? Does it? But I take it you have to be insured to drive it to the N.C.T centre? apologies if I got it wrong.

No and No if on a trailer.

    Wait hold on.
To drive it on the road yes it must be taxed but, it is not a check made as part of NCT.

If you are prepared to take a chance and drive to NCT Centre untaxed go for it. This is of course assuming you have insurance - without that tow it!

Presumably you are not confident it will pass if you don't want to tax it until it has NCT which is fair enough.

This is the correct info. I think!

I might just NCT it so, or put it through and see what it needs.

Did you sell the car or put it up for adoption? :P

I know what you mean though, I restored a deadly Renault5 a few years ago. A friend of mine bought it from me and tried to respray the door sills black (car was silver) after I put so much effort into getting it back to factory standard :(

Thanks Al. Or is it C. Gal?

On the plus side Dave, if the weather improves I'll get the chance to break out the d/a, and go to town on the Octy.

And the BMW 4.4 V8 is prone to coolant leak from the crossover tube - which will cost a large fortune to repair in a dealer, and a small fortune even in an indie.

Does that mean the Jag/Ford 4.2SC is preferred?

Sooooooo I nearly rear ended 12 D IS220 today. I was probably a hair away from hitting it.

    Saviour, My tyres and brakes

To blame, my distraction bopping to this on the M1. My lesson was learnt!

Heres my itinerary for the next 3 weeks.

    Tomorrow- dublin -paris
    Work (6x12hr shifts)
    8th aug paris -dublin
    Pick up kids.
    10th dublin -paris (avec rugrats)
    Fun fun fun
14th paris - dublin (hopefully still with the young uns)
    16th dublin - paris
    Work
    24th paris - dublin
Then im gonna sleep for a week;)

Each trip requires a 2 hr drive each way to/from the airport and a 2hr train journey each way in paris.

So if you see a black alfa behind you on the M7 and it looks like the drivers head is about to explode.........please do the decent thing and GTFO of the way:D

Man, I'd love to be able to drive that much. Only place I'll be driving in the next 3 weeks is the shops, which is about a minute away from me..
