Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

all the alluding and no actual names is terribly teasing!!

I know one definate for the clubs one..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 51 ✭✭manna

I've heard three for clubs, but ones a big maybe.

Thinking about it, I might know the other person for comms... and I hope I'm right; I think they'd be quite good at it.

Is there a definitive date for the election yet?

We have a preliminary date. Depends on a few variables though. I'd rather not put it out into the real world yet in case people take it as gospel and plan their campaigns around it - it's unlikely, but still suspect, to change.

The date of the election should hopefully be announced in the first/second week back, following some meetings and decisions and such:)

Do you want to start off the naming then???

    Indeed, Declan ;)

I wonder will boardsies be as well represented on next year's exec as they were on this year's?

    Yes, I do ;D

Ok so Declan (Meenagh) is in his final year and is almost 110% definitely running for a sabbat position what with the state of the economy for graduates and his massive dedication and commitment to a well run and carbon neutral union.

Anybody else want to help with the naming?

Grace Crehan is running for president.

    I welcome Declan running.

Are there any candidates running who haven't been lining themselves up for sabb elections since their first day?

You've edited that now and it makes it look like I'm having a stab at Declan. Which is not what I done. I do welcome Declan running.

<snip> I also do not believe she is a poster on this board, I'm not aware of that anyway. Candidates were bashed left, right and center on here last year yet any time I've been critical of members of MSU this year I get flak. I can dig up those threads if the mods would like.

Grace is a member of boards.ie

Digging up old threads is a pointless endeavor with a new mod this year.

Being critical of someone is fine if you can back it up with hard evidence. And I mean HARD evidence. Otherwise it's just pointless and potentially harmful hot air. The mods will decide how reliable evidence is. I would advise never doing this anyway, and discus a candidate's manifesto - not the candidate his/herself.

I'm enforcing a zero tolerance policy from this post on for this thread. Any slander, hint at slander or idiotic snipes will result in an immediate ban until the elections are over. Anyone who argues with me on this will be banned for the same length of time. I don't have patience for silly squabbles.

I would strongly advise everyone read the charter before posting here.

In short: Everyone play nice. A little civility never hurt anyone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

    Dickhead?

Anyway, how exactly do you give hard evidence that you disagree with someone's politics? Or complete lack of them as the case may be? Or is opinion not allowed?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,352 ✭✭✭funky penguin

I wasn't aiming that at you, it was a general statement.

    See you after the elections.

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭Nision

No slander or petty personal attacks?

Why are we even bothering to have a election at all so..

No, fair play to you for putting your name on it.

Better than all those recent join date, One post accounts that spring up closer to the day praising certain candidates

Well this thread's about to kick back into full swing, so I might as well be the one to do it.

I handed in my nomination form earlier today. Keith Broni (BuroniKiisu): candidate for Vice President / Communications & Development. Straight from the horse's mouth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭Nision

What's the point in Keith Broni for Vice President / Communications & Development if we don't have the right to life?

  • Registered Users Posts: 159 ✭✭Ataxia

Comms looks like its sown up then. I predict a massive ****storm in the welfare race if all the people I've heard are running decide to run..

I currently know of four candidates; two definitely confirmed. One of the other two plans to run a joke campaign.

Can we have a proper Q&A session with candidates this year?

Last year's one were the Returning Officer was handed questions by the audience and then she picked the ones she liked didn't work.

There has to be some sort of vetting process for the questions, though, as time is limited and you'd want the essentials to be asked, surely?
And, of course, bearing in mind that you're already on Boards, surely you could ask most candidates here or even on facebook what they're planning?

You're not guaranteed an answer that way.

I'd also like to think that at least ONE of the 6 questions I handed up at last year's presidential hustings were essential. Turns out not one of them was. Thankfully though, we got to hear whether each candidate though jaffa cakes were cakes or biscuits.

But I do agree to an extent with the vetting. Otherwise you'll get stupid 'college humor' questions.

They're cakes. As a law student, I can definitively state this. There's been a court case and everything!

And potentially the RO having to shout down a bunch of overly rowdy supporters.
