Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ya was a pain alright but I made up for it by getting free prints in the fishtank, everyone was getting free prints in there and a good few people took advantage of that situation.

My rant for the day is regarding the Ents crew and the event in the Stables tonight!!

I was freezing cold in my house so I decided to go to the Stables and get a pint or hot whiskey to sort myself out for an hour or so before going home to bed.
Only to be confronted by 2 Ents crew members asking for a ticket. I didnt know anything was even on there tonight!! Poorly advertised imo.

I said I only wanted a pint or two and I'd be gone in 45 mins or so, but no budging from them :( I wouldnt be so annoyed except that I'm practically a regular in the Stables, and when I looked inside it was barely half full...it didnt make sense to me..

If the place was only half full then tickets probably didn't sell too well which means the SU is down on money so why would they go letting someone in for free? How do they know you're only going to stay for one or two? You could easily have gone in and met someone you knew and decided to stay. TBH I think the Ents crew were right. Why should you get in free just because you're practically a regular? That's not fair on everyone else.

The SU down on money!! Ha are you having a laugh?!
My friends bought halloween ball tickets last friday and got tickets for Dirty Sanchez free...I just found out this morning. If they were worried about losing money, then maybe they should have sold those tickets

I was only going in for 1 or 2 pints because thats all I could afford, and I just needed to be out of the house for an hour.

I didnt say the Ents crew were wrong to refuse me, I said it didnt make sense to refuse someone from the Stabes who was going to spend money and is always in there...

For the past few weeks people kept smiling at me in college like they knew me or something. I smiled back politely and put it down to mistaken identity because 90% of the time I had no clue who they were.

This week I've had an unnatural amount of people smiling at me and addressing me by name, and on Tuesday in the Lodge a couple of people came up to me and were like 'Hey you're <insert my full name>, how are you?'. A couple of times people have also used a nickname, which is a completely unoriginal nickname but it only used by my friends at home and one person in college. It's like they know me on a personal level and yet I have no idea who they are, at all.

I have no clue who any of these people are and I'm too polite to be like 'hey, how the feck do you know me beyatch' but I'm getting really weirded out about the amount of people who seem to know me and yet I have no clue who they are. And I feel really rude every time I don't know someone. Hmmm.

Spent yesterday in the library, and thats not right, Saturdays are supposed to be spent on the couch watching copious amounts of sport, not in the library trying to do work!!!

Today wasnt much better either, although at least I got an assignment completed, so that was a plus, also it wasnt raining today!

When you have an essay due on a Monday or a Tuesday (after a bank holiday).

    That is all.

Is anyone else unable to access the UL email? It keeps telling me my username/password is wrong but when I tried to sign in to Online Student Records it was fine. Anyone any idea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Harpy

i can't log in either was also trying the library website earlier and couldn't log in either..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭ergonomics

Thank God. Well not really because I *really* need to get an essay title but my housemates told me they had no problems and I was starting to have visions of my account being hacked. I haven't used a computer on campus in weeks though so it has to be a fault, and one that needs to be sorted pretty quickly if you don't mind me saying.

Printers the other week, email this week. Does anything in UL work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭digiking

It seems as though anything based around active directory username and password isn't working...Your main ul login that is

    Sulis aint working either:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,174 ✭✭✭1huge1

Sorry to annoy you guys but both Sulis and my UL mail are working fine.

Well once I'm not the only one I don't care. I'll contact ITD in the morning if it doesn't fix itself.

I went to the effort of queuing for a pc in the library today, apparently my password had 'expired' so I had to set a new one with numbers in it. Was happening a good few people, and the problem can't be fixed from a laptop. Load of bollocks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,366 ✭✭✭ninty9er

Anyone that's not a first year (possibly excluding second years also) has to migrate to a complex password.

Meaining your password must now contain 3 of

    1. Uppercase letter
    2. Lowercase letter
    3. Non alphanumeric character
    4. Number

This affects anyone with an ID number below 07 at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭ergonomics

Cool, thanks ninety9er. Although, nice of them to share this information with us.

No of course it can't you need to be on a machine that is part of the UL domain to change your password. Your laptop can avail of network services it's just not joined to the UL doing hence you can't make any changes to your account in the Active Directory.
    hi_im_fil wrote: »

No it hasn't changed it has expired you need to go and sit at a machine in college and change your password.

Thats a bit stupid because I'm away on coop at the moment but still need access to my e-mail to arrange coop visits etc. Any way I can do it without physically going into the college?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,039 ✭✭✭rmacm

Not sure to be honest, I can change my domain password here at work remotely but UL may not have that set up. Do you know anyone in the college at the moment, ask them to do it for you perhaps? Of course that means you have to trust a person with your password....which may or may not be doable for you.

Yes, its completely ridiculous, and for those of you on co-op and unable to access it, god knows what emails you could be missing!! But as Rory says again:

The only problem I have is that they NEVER TOLD US!!!

I cant fathom how they expect students to read minds! No advance warning, nothing!

I actually dont know why I'm so surprised, seeing as UL is reknowned for cocking up. :(

Apparently you can change your password from your laptop. Not sure if you have to be connected to the UL network though or if you can do it from off campus

    Clicky:

    https://outside.ul.ie/PasswordReset

EDIT: Just tried it there from an off-campus connection and it seemed to work fine. Should sort out any co-opers. Obviously not just for laptops either etc.

Not sure about that fountain but don't jump into the fountain in front of the Schuman. It's all slimy and very cold at this time of year.

Why dont lecturers put the notes up in time!!

My lecturer from 4-6 on Thursdays only puts the notes up on a Thursday, and due to other lectures being on, its impossible to get them in time :(

And today as well, I've a lecture in 2 hours, (a tutorial in 1 hour) and the notes still arent on the public folders! How does he expect students to be prepared

For lecturing 4th years, you'd expect them to be prepared!!

nothing against the use of laptops there, but only if they use them in the ground floor place. so bloody annoying trying to study when the person beside u comes in with a laptop and click clicks there way through "interesting sites" like bebo when other folks want place to study.

added to that being asked to keep an eye on it whilst they go for a 2 hour lunch. like ya!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭ergonomics

If the people beside you are annoying you by going on Bebo etc. then I reason you are at a laptop wired desk so you brought it on yourself.

If they're beside you at a normal desk then yes, it is a pain, but you're just as likely to get someone chatting away about how they were 'absolutely twisted in the Lodge last night' for half an hour.

I've never used the laptop area downstairs but considering I spent 5 minutes trying to find a laptop wired desk yesterday I'll assume there won't be anyway near enough laptop ports for everyone in the library. Anyway, my books are on the top floor at the furtherest point from the stairs. Excuse me if I'd rather not run up and down all the stairs every time I want a book!
