What Do You Think Is Other People's Perception Of You?

So, what do you think other people think about you?

How do you think you come across to others?

And how do you think it affects your relationship with those people, either; strangers, friends, neighbours, family, co-workers, employees or employers?

Do you think they treat you differently for some reason and do you think their opinions are right or wrong?

And why do you think they think these things? Are you happy with what you think they think?

Personally, I notice others perception of me I always wonder why do they think that and further why do they then act like that towards me. When did I give them that idea or display that attitude to make them think that?

I'm amazed at how some people can have such a different opinion of me. Some people would be fairly wary of me while others would find me very approachable. It can be disconcerting because people base how to act towards you based on their perception of you and if it is a negative perception, whether it's true or not, the person could be completely wrong and that could be their fault, they will still treat you badly or in a negative manner. It could be your fault either and you're just paranoid...

    /required bullshit contribution :pac:

So do people think you're a cunt? Or a pushover? A skinny bitch? Or very vindictive or what?

I don't really care what others think of me. I have a habit of pushing things quite a bit when I first meet people. I've had amateur psychologists suggest it's because I'm afraid to be liked when it's just to see if someone is worth bothering with.
I don't care what people's perceptions of me are in general but I'd say most see me as a bit of an arsehole.

At this stage i hardly know what to think of ME. Neighbours, friends, co-workers, wife all see a very different me. Would prob be a laugh to get them all in omen room.

Oh boy where do I start?

Well I believe the world dislikes me or doesn't want to know me so its part of the reason why I don't have any real friends or any sort of a proper social life. I am a bit of a recluse yes and have chosen to be like this because I believe wants me to be this way. I fear if I tried to go out and make friends the world will attempt to disown me so feel as if its better not to socialise in the first place as thats what the world wants me to be I think as I say.

Its become a bit of problem for me however because I am 25 now, 26 next month and I have no girlfriend, never had a girlfriend and no friends and its pretty caused me to go into a mass spiral of depression being like this. I actually attempted suicide on the 25th of april earlier this year because I thought my life wasn't worth living any longer and I didn't want to grow old being this way. I feared being a failure, particularly socially. Die a virgin and a loner etc.

I have to admit I avoid all my cousins, aunts, uncles etc because I don't want them to see me as this recluse and think I'm weird, see me with no girlfriend etc. My lifestyle becomes embarresing so I avoid them and pretend I just simply don't exist in the long run sadly.

I walk around Belfast for example and see couples holding hands, young people messing about and me, and this sad sad sad loser at near 26, with no friends or anything, looking a loner for so long, and it really gets me down. :(

So its interesting you talk about public perception as its is everything for me. Part of my depression and dealing with it or defeating it even is to change this perception, of how I think the world thinks of me. Because otherwise, its becoming dangerous and even lethal, leading me to have the current lifestyle I have.

Since my suicide attempt, I have had counselling (for the first time), anti-depressants (being diagnosed with severe depression) and have to visit a mental health unit once a week. I have to go through a programme called Cognetive Therapy Behaviour, to attempt to systematically change the way I think and how the I think percieves me.

So I don't want to be a downer to this thread, you're all probably sick of hearing my story over and over :P but I just though this was relevant as public perception is everything to me right now sadly.

Its ok when some people don't like you, thats natural, but when nobody likes you and nobody gets on with you thats when it becomes a problem at least for me, and psycologically, it destroys me long term and it has become hard to live with, and its that I have to change.

But that's just your perception of yourself, your family loves you. I love you. :) People don't really think those things about you and you know that.

I'm pretty much a wanker 99% of the time, but a funny likeable one.

The other 1% of the time I'm the most helpful generous person you could meet.

It buys me alot of goodwill for the 99%
It also keeps people doubting their opinion on me :-)

Hehe if I seriously did I wouldn't be in the position I was in! :pac:

But like I say its getting the point now where theres no point in me whinging about it, I have to go out and do something about it. Its still hugely depressing, but hopefully with all these programs and treatments with the right people I can change it. :)

....I have to go out and do something about it.... :)
thats pretty much it man, ya have to 'help yourself', i mean, i've been depressed for the last 20 years of my life, and i thought i needed anti-depressants, but they didnt work, i thought i needed a psychiatrist, but 8 or 10 of them didnt work, i thought i needed a theripist, she didnt have a clue what i was going through, i thought i needed (something else and some thing else didnt work) i cant even remember...

but keep going man, maybe you'll find someone...

Other's perceive me as a sex crazed, erect phallus... who's replies contain 50% innuendo, and 50% sarcasm.

People think I`m posh and confident first and then they think I`m a chatty bimbo/airhead then they realise my heart is always in the right place and they like me if they haven`t already decided I`m not to be bothered with.

I get quite upset over how some people treat me and can easily end up coming home crying thinking everyone hates me. OH says I can be a bit like a big bounding labrador kinda needy cute...I`m no island - I need people but I don`t change for anyone and can burn my bridges easily.

I often think about taping myself for the day and playing it back but I don`t think I`d like what I`d see!

I think people generally percieve me as being quite independent minded and laid back, with a lingering hint of being overly fond of partying and womanising - despite the fact that i haven't really done either in the best part of a decade! People are very slow to change their opinions - first impressions certainly do last!
I've worked for the same company for a long time and i reckon if i changed now, my new work mates would see me as a totaly different person than my current ones do.

There is an idea of Immaculate Pasta; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

Generally I couldn't give a shíte what anyone thinks of me. Once my close friends, g/f and family find me bearable then I'm happy.

New people are cûnts until proven otherwise :)

Jesus you sound like me about ten years ago  I've learned to become a bit more tolerable in that people are now just 'clitbags' (women) or 'wankbags' (men) until proven otherwise :pac:
