ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun to kick off in Munich on June 6

First medals to be awarded at Thursday's Women's Trap; three disciplines combined for the first time of the year

On Friday, June 6, 2014, the ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun will start in Munich, Germany; the first final will be Women's Trap, at 6:20PM (CEST). The competition, featuring 15 events, will go on throughout Thursday, June 12, when it will finally close with Men's Skeet (6:30PM). 1292 athletes will represent 96 nations, adding up to 1880 starts.

Though this will be the fourth ISSF World Cup Stage of 2014, it will be the first to display all the three disciplines – Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun – combined; the first stage of the season (in Fort Benning) had both Rifle and Pistol, and the following two (Tucson and Almaty) only had Shotgun. The next stage – in Maribor, Slovenia, from June 13 to June 21 – will be about Rifle and Pistol (see calendar).

Our own IRLConor and ItWasntMe will be representing Ireland in the 50m Mens Prone Rifle on Monday morning - good luck lads!

There are three other lads out shooting too, on the shotgun side. Derek Burnett is shooting trap and David Christie and Sean Pawley-Treacy are shooting skeet. The timetable for the Irish shooters is roughly like this:

Derek Burnett missed out on the trap final yesterday by only 2 clays. It was a very high scoring day, he shot 122/125 and it took a shoot-off between the 7 people on 124 to determine who went into the final. Two time Olympic gold medal winner Michael Diamond missed out on the final despite qualifying in joint first!

It wasn't me! and myself have pre-event training this afternoon and we're off to the range shortly. It's pretty great weather for shooting:

Live results aren't working out of Munich at the moment, which is a shame because the air rifle events were kindof cool - the Men's event went to an 18-year-old Chinese shooter who beat out Campriani (who took silver in the 10m event in the London games and gold in the 50m 3P event there), while the Women's event saw Katerina Emmons at her first match since the London Olympics (where she came 4th after her gold in Bejing and Bronce in Athens) come second to a new 14-year-old shooter from Singapore by 0.3 points...

We caught the men's 10m final today, before our training slots. Great final to watch, lots of changes in position. You'll enjoy it when the highlights come out on YouTube.

Both of us got eliminated today.

I'm pretty annoyed at my score. I shot about as well as I did yesterday in training but the score was about 6 points lower. Lots of shots I called as good 10s came out as 9s.

Next stop, Granada for the GPI CEAR Juan Carlos I next month and then back to Granada again in September for the World Championships.

It looks like the ISSF World Championship might end up on TV: http://www.issf-sports.org/news.ashx?newsid=2114

If all goes well, it will mean that future World Cups might be televised too. I don't know who would carry it, but it's a step forward one way or another.

That's excellent news; they ran a few matches via Eurovision years ago, but it didn't seem to take off, if they've gotten a deal for even the high-level matches, that's a nice step forwards; maybe they'll film some Bundesliga events as a second step...

Considering that they're only going to be covering the finals, I can't see them covering Bundesliga events. In any case, that would be a separate deal between the DSB and a TV network.

Still, a nice step forward.
