Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Probably in the minority here but why is it so hard too find decent work in Waterford ??

There's only so many rejection letters/non reply's a person can take

Because there IS NO decent work available in Waterford!

Maybe in 20 years times there might be but move on and out of here as nothing is happening!

Stop waiting for it to turn! I've been there!

sadly might be the only way

I could return to college and get a degree but at 27 feel a bit old for that. Its becoming the norm for older people to go back to college due to the economic climate

Id love any sort of full time job but there hens teeth in Waterford atm

hopefully it worked out the best for you

I have a part time job for the last number of years but i dont think it would cut the mustard in years too come. Id love any sort of full time job but there hens teeth in Waterford atm

Look, in my view hanging around here doing a degree is a total waste!
Move on, find employment elsewhere and then set about getting your degree
and improving your opportunities for promotion.

Plenty of companies in the Dublin region who are expanding and advertising for employees.
Don't get stuck in a rut down here. It's only 2 hours up the motorway and if it doesn't work out well at least you can say that you tried!
You owe yourself at least that!

you're never too old to go back to education, ive studied with people of pensionable age, its great to see, and older people bring more maturity to a class group. dont rush into it though as its a big commitment and can be very stressful to. make sure you chose something of interest to you, and not necessarily something in which you think will provide better employment opportunities after the fact.

What course were ye participating in out of curiosity?

havent a clue to be honest

ive studied loads of things at this stage, mainly scientific and engineering based, the previous course was environmental science

Look, there can't be too many 27 years olds who want to sit in on a course
with the average age of the participants averaging the mid-60's.
At that age you would want to be out, enjoying life, making plans and seeing
them come to fruition! Not sitting in with a group who have lived their lives and
who are now just marking time!

    ****ing hell, pure ignorance.
What do you think going to college is if its not making plans and watching them come into fruition?
And the average age of participants is mid 60's really? Have you participated in many part time courses or do you have statistics to back up such a claim?

The knowitallfella is more like it.

Wow, looks like you have life all planned out eh? Only one chance to go to college and even then it must be with people your own age eh...
I'm considering doing a Masters in college in 2018 and I will be in my 40s then. plus a lot of the people doing the course will be retired or in their 50s.

That probably blows your mind so ill be sure to come back here and seek your approval when the time comes.

Left college with my qualification when I was 24 (higher cert tourism WIT) but circumstances changed at home and I didn't go on and do the degree course. Was in courses with people of all ages

I'd rather be in a course with older people than hungover 18/19 year olds

Anyway the job scene in Waterford is scare ATM but hopefully it will improve with the new developments

Is there anywhere in Waterford that you don't get told to stay away . No wonder unemployment rates are high.

I listened to everyone on this thread telling me to stay away from Eishtec until one day i took the plunge. I ended up working there for over a year and it was absolutely fine. A jobs a job at the end of the day and if you don't like it you can give it up or change the job.

Beats sitting and scratching your arse

its a fair point but i have heard horror stories from some places mentioned on this thread. i know people that ran from eishtec and i also know somebody thats been there since it opened, and doesnt mind it at all. it truly is all relative, but there are many dreadful jobs and employers out there. ive seen people become very unhappy even depressed in some of these jobs, strangely some are better off being unemployed than being in these jobs.

I think it's useful to get all types of feedback.
I have worked in Eishtec and absolutely hated the place (for the reasons stated in this thread).

Fair enough I may scratch that off the list. Its probably a family owned business. From my experience such businesses are horrible and the people treat you like sh!t.

I dont know to be honest but its one of those places that has a high turnover of staff, bausch & lomb are still hiring so it might be worth your while to send a cv in there

How do you apply for Bausch and Lomb? Is it walk in job or is there any where online? And would it be better to give it to someone who works there, if you have to hand a cv in?

You will be working 50+ hours a week for minimum wage. No shift pay. No OT pay. Not a nice place to work. Speaking from experience......:mad::mad:

That's a few people now who are after saying its a crap place. And the mad thing is they seem to have a HR department because you see the odd ad from them saying to send CV in to HR Department. Obviously they don't care how badly the place is run.

Loads of work in Dublin if the people were bothered looking for it!
Train load of people travel from Sligo everyday to work in Dublin!
I think we're too fussy!

You'd have to be in a fairly good job to afford the train up and down every day. Its fairly expensive way of commuting.

A daily return is €20 which is a good fare considering your crossing the breath of the country and I'm sure a monthly pass would be more economical.
I know it's a long haul but it beats sitting on your ass waiting for something to happen!
