Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Sweatshop architect :D
How long per day can you make prisoners work before they get angry and stabby?

I think I had mine working 5 hours a day and that was fine. Probably could have pushed it to 6. 5 hours sleep, 1/2 hours eating time, an hour to shower and a couple of hours of free time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

Screw it, I'm just gonna cheat and give myself a million quid starting budget and build the best damn prison in the world! TV's in every cell, jacuzzis, conjugal visits, the odd torture dungeon...

:o:o so far I have them working 8 hours a day but I keep changing the regime if needed.. Once you get the workshops up and running it gets very easy to take in money. i get around 10k a day with them working 8 hours a day

oh and if yea don't want you trading cards for prison architect i'll gladly trade yea for them
Does anyone know what the laundery does ???

Does anyone know what the laundry does ???

The prisoners will start to complain about dirty clothes and the orange slowly fades from a darker shade to a lighter shade as they get dirty. If you set up a laundry, this will provide the prisoners with fresh clothes and keep them happy.

You can set them to work in the laundry to do the clothes themselves. The guards also seem to move the laundry baskets sometimes.

It seems like the max amount of money you can have is $100,000...

I blew through $50,000 just building a basic detention centre! :pac:

No it's not. I gave myself a million like you said you were going to do :P

That prison I wrote the 'boards.ie' in grass on cost $950,000 including labour costs :P

Hmmm... must have another tinker around, maybe I just forgot to put in the extra zero... :P

I did make a balls of it though, I spent a day putting up perimeter walls, and totally forget to stop the arrival of prisoners. So just as I lay the foundations for the main building, a truckload arrive on the scene, and me without a single guard hired yet. :pac:

Luckily, a few guards managed to keep them all in check in the deliveries area and it only took 15 or so hours to build and fit out a place for them.:)

Question: Is it possible to get my guards to patrol different areas at different times other than manually sending them there? For example, when all my prisoners are out in the yard, the guard in the holding cell is just faffing around doing nothing...

Not yet no. There is a lot of talk in the community about this so I'm not sure if it will be added by the developers or not

Had another problem with foundations on my recent build. For some reason it always seems to be the foundation for the office space that causes me problems. Anyway, thankfully it was at the start.

Have moved onto a new build. Have it all planned out. Here it is.

    1r2n.jpg

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I have my cell blocks on the left. Think it works out just short of 100 prisoners. 3 workshops in the top right. All max 20 workers. Kitchen/canteen just below that and then all the other gubbins down the bottom right.

Have any of you managed to get riot guards yet? I've seen videos of people using them but for me they say they have yet to be introduced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

Just FYI, if you go into your saves folder you can get a .png of your "canvas" that shows the whole prison without the UI. (at least it does for a small prison, not sure if it works as well with the large ones, but there's no reason it shouldn't) :)

I got them in the emergency tab.
Quite effective at stomping people into mush.

Oh ok. Yeah I was looking at them in bureaucracy. Tried finding them in the staff page, nut I guess their no supposed to be in that.

Yeah you can't buy them for permanent use in your prison just yet but you can make as much use of the 3 squads of riot police under the emergency section right now.

In my last prison, my prisoners were going mental rioting every half an hour or so, so I just had the 3 emergency riot police squads on stand by in a corner of the prison yard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

I vastly underestimated the power of the riot police. My first riot (only 8 prisoners) I called in two squads. :pac:

They marched in and battered the living **** out of them in 2 seconds. :P

O_o my workers are bringing in the sheet metal for this prison. Am I going crazy or shouldn't the prisoners be doing that?

You want to let your prisoners outside ... your very trusting.
Just had my first big riot 60 odd people in it and only 1 dead :) and it was a visitor ... my bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Now this guy knows what's up! A work only prison. No beds, no food, no showers, no yard. They work 24/7 and if there's a fight, they get pummelled by the guards and put in one of 50 or so solitary cells :P

EDIT: It seems Alpha 12 should be out sometime this or next week. Updates seem to be release every month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

    I now have 20 prisoners...

I'm recovering at least 4 knives a day...

If I didn't have metal detectors going into the cell block I'd be in serious trouble I'd say. :pac:

How do you guys satisfy the exercise need? I have loads of weight benches and the prisoners are getting plenty of yard and free time to use them, yet a few are still complaining...

I also have to laugh at one guy who wants more freedom, yet he's been caught with shanks at least 3 times in the 7 days he's been in the prison.... :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 214 ✭✭shaneb92

Had a riot with 24 prisoners... all 5 guards have been killed, dident unlock riot control, have no money left to get more guards and the prisoners are currently making **** of the place.

Think its time to start a new prison

You can call in riot police from the Emergencies tab. Can't remember what they cost unfortunately.

For a bit of a laugh last night i brought in 12 riot police at 4am set them all up in the showers, had a jail door installed then woke the prisoners up for an early shower. Set the place to lockdown and let time run its course, absolute chaos :D

Any one else's prison gone very slow .. mine has become pretty much unplayable only have 80~ prisoners .. Hopefully the next release will improve it a bit

With those kind of numbers? No. But if there is a lot of indicators flashing, then mine slows down.

Can anyone tell me, are sections of the prison meant to go dark randomly?

I find occasionally a corridor or a room will have a blackout, generator still running fine with maximum capacitors, and it'll just... sort itself out after a few seconds...

I also loaded a save today and as soon as it loaded, my entire cellblock started showing up as having no water. Only resolved itself when I went into Utilities...

Had a riot as well today over dirty clothes...

Is it just me, or is it a bit sh*t that you have to unlock laundry? Like, I could understand you having to unlock the ability to have Prisoners work in the Laundry, but surely from day 1 you should be able to hire someone to do it for you, and later on assign inmates to help out this person for added efficiency/reduced cost or something...

cant say i have noticed that at all its not the fog of war ?? weird for just an area to black out ... but when i start a game it takes around 10 sec for all the indicators to stop

No, definitely not FoW (which btw, I really hope they fix in the next Alpha because it can't be turned off) because the lights start indicating no power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

My god this game is addictive!

I have noticed a few problems like staff not using the staff door or workers just decide to stop moving. But for an Alpha its surprisingly stable.

Water does take time to flow throughout the network. When I load my prisons, the furthest pipe in the line has the flashing indicator for about 3 seconds until the flow catches up.

I opened my prison the other day after spending a good while building. I had one power station with the max amount of capacitors. For the first day or so, the single power station was fine. But then the power cut. I tried turning it all back on but it just trips again. I built another power station and connected it to the grind, but the same thing happens. Surely two power stations with the max amount of capacitors should be more then enough for a small prison!?

Are all the individual capacitors switched on?

are the two power stations hooked up together ??? That's cause it to trip.
If you have two of them the lines can't meet they have to power different parts of the prison

That's why my first prison failed. Couldn't get my power back on after I installed my second station. Only know have I realised.

This makes me happy. The longer it's in Alpha, the greater the likelihood of more cool features being added to what is already a pretty cool game.

Hope we get some new objects in the next update. Like actual gates for the prison or more leisure objects.

I must sign up to the developer forum I saw knocking around at some point...

Well, I finally got a prison functioning somewhat well... unfortunately, even with only 20 or so prisoners it's chugging like hell (and I have 8GB RAM and a decent enough i7 in this laptop)...

    264629.jpg

This normal security prison comprises of 64 cells separated into two blocks. In each cell, prisoners can relax on their budget bed with a selection of books on their personalised bookshelves. Each cell block has a dedicated shower area, as well a common room where the prisoners are free to partake in a variety of activities, including pool, watching TV, standing around aimlessly and being watched by CCTV cameras.

You will also notice the metal detectors leading into each Cell Block. We here at GeneriPrison Inc. believe in trusting our inmates. And in that spirit we subject them to several scans a day to ensure we can trust them. In the unlikely event contraband is found, prisoners are escorted to their cells with a minimal amount of baton-beating.

Adjacent to Cell Block B is the solitary confinement area, where prisoners who need a break from the hustle and bustle of prison life can kick back without interruption or distractions.

At the front of the prison is a Holding Cell to welcome new arrivals to our little community, an infirmary to care for the sick, a morgue for the hopefully rare event when a baton-beating leads to death, a cleaning cupboard where volatile chemicals are stored (conveniently located next to the laundry room where the prisoners work unsupervised for 4 hours a day), a visitor room and a yard complete with several weight benches so our prisoners can bulk up in order to be better equipped to deal with the aforementioned baton-beatings.

To the North is our beautiful green area. Unfortunately, given that the prison has no windows, our prisoners can not enjoy the view, so we have decided to develop this into a workshop area where they can repay their debt to society by making low quality licence plates and sneakers for Nike.

We hope you have enjoyed this presentation by GeneriPrison Inc. We hope you will consider us the next time you rob a liquor store or steal an old lady's purse.

    GeneriPrison Inc. We're Generic!

I should work in marketing... :P

I have a 7950 GFX card and when workers are building anything en mass it chugs along.

I hope they optimise it in another build

Yeah, it could have been that that was slowing it down. When I zoomed in on the office block or the Solitary Cells, I could hear the building sounds so maybe the game was glitching out and telling itself there were workers there. Hopefully when I reload later it'll have sorted itself, really don't want to scrap this prison just yet.
