George Hackenschmidt will be turning in his grave!!!

He is not a name that everyone is familiar with probably. But wssentially he is in Japan equivalent to Hulk Hogan in his Wrestling career and possibly a more eccentric Vince McMahon in his promotional career - he is the ex-boss of New Japan.

    Well:
Super Luchas reported today that Antonio Inoki has converted to Islam and has changed his name to Mohammad Hussein.

    http://tribune.com.pk/story/473591/furthering-diplomatic-ties-japanese-wrestler-inoki-arrives-in-pakistan/

Which is fair enough in isolation. But he has an epic history:
The owner of the largest ego in wrestling history, Inoki is every bit as crazy as that description would lead you to believe. Inoki is best known to young Japanese as the crazy old guy who slaps his fans, including women, in the face with the expectation that they will thank him for the honor. Like his teacher, Rikidozan, Inoki is widely accused of being a front for the Japanese mob - despite being a mainstream politician and ex-senator. Accused by coworkers of embezzling money from his promotion in the 1980's to invest in outlandish quack technology, Inoki loudly boasts that he is a revolutionary inventor who will subvert the Laws of Physics by building the world's first perpetual motion machine. He owns James-Bond-villain-style private islands in the South Pacific and Cuba; the Cuban island he bought supposedly due to Castro's promise that it contained buried pirate treasure. Brags of friendships with North Korean dictator King-Jong Il and Saddam Hussein.

    I'm still calling him Inoki.

Guy could have his own reality TV show and it would no doubt be brilliant. He even looks like a mobster!

In fairness this is the week WWE in order to have enough depth on house shows they brought Swagger, Riley and Fandagoo out of the moth balls. As well as bring back New Age Outlaws and a pot bellied Jamie Noble. As well flying Ryback, Bryan, Kane and the Shield to open a house show in Detriot to Chicago to close another house show. I think Jericho has leverage don't you! ;)

Jaysus the poor 6 lads who had to do that, its pure desperate. I never read the house reports but Heyman was in 'action' too or was at least to be booked vs Ryback. Not to mention my friends Flair and Mankind resurfacing. WWE must of had to make the call to him this year.
On another note Fandangoo has turned up.

Woah, I didn't understand what rovert said there, they had the New Age Outlaws wrestling on a house show, and Jamie Noble? Sounds nostalgic. I wouldn't have minded seeing them, really. As for Jack Swagger and Alex Riley, they should be permanent fixtures on the road I think.

There is no excuse for having guys doing double duty in different cities. They have easily 60 odd wrestlers on the roster. Taking injuries and whatnot into account, they should still be at least around the 40 mark. Have the shield wrestle three singles matches, that's nearly half the card done already. House shows don't mean anything, just stick a babyface against a heel, there doesn't need to be a reason.

Its not that simple though, people will stop going to house shows if they don't see 'star' names. Especially Smackdown who are missing both Orton and Rey while Henry and Christian are long term missing.

Cena, Punk, Sheamus, Big Show, Bryan, Kane, Del Rio, Ryback, Ziggler, no shortage of big names and thats without Orton, Mysterio, Henry and Christian and probably forgetting a few.

    Punk is injured as well.

So that leaves RAW with Cena, Bryan, Kane (People expect to see them as a duo), Ryback and Ziggler. One Heel.

Smackdown with Sheamus, Big Show, Del Rio and Miz. Again one heel.

So I see why they moved the big heel names around. They probably shouldn't have turned Miz and Del Rio so close together in time.

If they did Cena v Random unimportant Heel the paying public wouldn't be impressed.

Anyhow, this isn't the thread for this, so i won't derail anymore.

Jeff says he is staying in TNA. Basically he said he felt more wanted.

WWE rejected Aries for Tough Enough. Doubt he'd even consider them after that.

They had their chance but bafflingly turned him down for Tough Enough.... Andy? or was it Adam? Levine was a great winner though.

Matt Fowler of Showrenirty.com recently quoted The Rock regarding his match at WrestleMania 29.

“The storyline will be that starting this coming Monday [for RAW], I’m gonna go back, and it’s going to be a big return. That will lead to, hopefully, what will be the biggest WrestleMania of all time at Giants Stadium. I will headline that show, with someone who I can’t say right now. We’ve got an amazing four months lined up and planned out that will culminate in the biggest WrestleMania of all time. It’s going to be a hell of a thing.”

Fowler got the quote from Rock while he was at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour to promote The Hero.

Rumour overnight has it El Generico has signed with WWE.

    34s5500.png

It is a credible source reputation wise but not traditionally an original news source.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

Roberto Man-helmsley seemingly strikes again. What i'd give to be a fly on the wall in wwe to see what the plan is long term. Right, now i'm going to have a go at guessing his new name...Kourt....Pulley?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

Further developments on whether El Generico has signed have been very drip drip. PWTorch confirmed the news with one source at least.

The most interesting thing is late December/early January El Generico was taken out of PWG's DDT4 annual tag tournament due to injury. PWG had been building towards El Generico and Kevin reconciling and reforming their tag team on that show for about six months now. So it was a blow to fans. PWG even announced a replacement to tag with Steen.

Then this morning after the PWP report the PWG offical twitter tweeted:
Even though he's injured, El Generico insists on being at PWG for DDT4! He's back in the tournament with Kevin Steen!

I guess this is El Generico's farewell appearance? That said Chris Hero ended up having two farewells with PWG. :P

"CM Punk, I have lost all respect for you for nor saying no to the writers of the WWE for saying Bruno Sammartino only wrestled once a month in Madison Square Garden. You talk about one of the greatest icons ever in pro wrestling like he was a JOBBER??? You should be ashamed of yourself for not having the self-dignity to say NO to the writers on that line. That line you delivered indicates that I am a big loser like Bruno as well and insults me as I wrestled in the same era as Bruno. This only confirms more that I want my name out of the WWE Hall of Fame.

"How many monthly sell outs have you yourself drawn at Madison Square Garden? Not a PPV or the Raw TV show. Quit talking trash about Bruno. It's an insult to him and all the wrestlers of his era including myself!

Of all the champs out there i think Punk has paid his due's in the indies and also paid them in WWE.Between been an extra in Cena's WM intro a few year's ago too working in WWECW.Also Punk is an out and out mark.He knows the history of this game and the Sammartino line was just too get heat i think!
