Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A girl I went out with called it her jam! I also heard someone discussing it one day on a train, it was a guy telling his mate he had O when his g/f was on her rags! He said he had turkey pie with cranberry sauce! Ergh!!!

EDIT: Is that why another name for the lady garden is 'chainsaw wound'?

No special names for it, but i'm in negotiations to have "...sponsored by Cadburys" included in my each and every mention of it. I get through a fair whack of chocolate then.

Wait, you're calling it something silly infront of girls who are starting to get them?
    Sense - This makes none.

    It's just my period. :p

Period. I find the euphemisms a bit creepy tbh. Using them perpetuates the whole idea that periods are some kind of mysterious/weird thing that can't or shouldn't be talked about in public. Call a spade a spade.

Although having said all that, I have occasionally used the phrase 'reading in the Ussher basement' for when I have my period. Basically in TCD, where I went to college, the periodicals section was in the basement of the Ussher library - hence 'I'm reading in the Ussher basement'. But it's mainly for lulz.

Wow. That sounds even weirder when I write it down.

To mammy I'd say I have my period. Among my mates it's on the rag and PMS is "raggy". On the blob was thrown around for a while, but rag stuck. Not very nice is it lol?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

On the blob is well nasty! Generally jsut period, but from time to time i just tell him i'm plugged!

    From ex's:

    "my others"

    "up on bricks"

so does mine, and i've always found it odd. i usually just go for 'my time of the month', or 'mother****ing red cramping bastards'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭Reku

Why is it that of all the things in life it seems to be the genitalia & sex organs and things pertaining to them that have the widest variety of euphemisms? Only one thing on folks minds you'd swear....:P

Know an American co-worker absolutely loved the phrase "up on bricks" for a girl's period, thought it was hilarious.
Can't say I can remember female friends using euphemisms when discussing it around me, only made me feel out of place not embaressed.

I remember seeing a Jo Brand sketch a right few years ago where she went through some names for it: Arsenal are playing at home, the painters are in, and she said her personal favourite was "I have vast quantities of blood leaking from my vagina"...

    :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

I usually just say I'm being a girl.

I was messing a few months back and told my boyfriend in a kind of Deirdre O'Kane voice I was at that stage of my "menstrual cycle". He now does a little singing minstrel impression whenever I have my period :pac:

I have a friend who makes a point of telling me she's 'bleeding like a cut fish' when she's on.

Oh and once I got a text from a female friend saying she was 'gushing like someone on the Jeremy Kyle', followed by another one saying 'sry, wrong number'. I think she was joking.

As you can tell, I move in pretty sophisticated circles.

I call it my period, or "that time of the month" if I think the context requires delicacy.

On the rare occasion that I get cramps I am fond of announcing "My womb is at me!"; I lived in a house with a couple of very crampy girls a few years back, and it caught on..
