next job is to replace the dreaded rope seal ( again ) on the back of the engine and get her back together ready for another test drive , should be set for rubbing down and cleaning then and hopefully primer and paint soon , the brother is flat out working on the bonnet trying straighten out 50 years of dents and dings and patch the rust , i will start taking a few pictures of this work the next day i am out .

What process are you using to install the rope seal??

well after a few attempts we decided to replace the actual aluminum housing and the rope together at the same time , that seems to have done the trick

Wow that is some amount of work. I am a month into a 1965 135. Belongs to me Father. I have to do all that you have done. Just wondering did you sand blast any of it or use grinder/wire brush on a drill to tackle the rust. The primer you used is that a rust inhibiting Primer.

good man , great to hear of another one being saved , we wire brushed everything with a 4" grinder , did a lot of hand work on the smaller hard to get places . its slow tedious work but the end results are good , we use sparex high grade primer , no rust inhibitor needed if you get her well cleaned down first and try to apply the primer and paint in a warm dry shed . kerosene heater is a god send .

Thanks for that. I thought I would have to sandblast some of it. If there rust under the paint/primer will it come out through eventually in your experience.

yes it will work its way through alright and sooner than you think too , try to do as much preparation work as you can before you spray , it will stand to the tractor in the long run .

    Will do, Thanks for that.

Unreal work. The level of detail and care is incredible. It looks like it just rolled off the production line.

Love your threads. Keep up the good work!!

thanks lad that means a lot , i dont think that there is any point going all out on a job and then giving up and rushing things at the final hurdle , the finishing touches are the parts that everyone is going to see and comment on not the work that was done on the internals and unseen bits , shes coming together well now and should be ready for the big unveil next weekend !!

    Well done Greendragon. excellent work.

I did up a 35X a few years ago too. Can't say I went quite as far with the attention to detail as you did it it's a working tractor in everyday use, but it's great to see them restored to their former glory and to see the life breathed back into them. Hard to believe that they're 50 years+ old, all the bits are available, and so many of them are still playing a vital role around so many farmyards.

    Keep up the good work.

Did you say where those roller bearings you found came from?

well we did a good bit of searching and could not find anything out of place , loose or missing any bearings so we came to the conclusion that she may have been split before and the lay shaft or pto main bearings may have been replaced and the old needle bearings missed deep in the back end !!!!! biggrin.gifclear.gif
