Joe and Keith were the original comedy duo. When they were going the strawberry alarm clock was justin joan and colm and I think justin left and Jim jim came on and then joan left they never brought in anyone else. 98fm were dermot dave and siobhan...till she left and they went to drive time ultimately. It was always just joe and Keith and they were very funny together.

I don't know why comedy doesn't work with phantom listeners.but now the comedy is gone. ..there's a bit of banter and a lot more music and still people sre complaining. I wonder to phantom listeners think they own the station from the pirate days and they feel theyve control over how the programmes go.

All the same its brought in new listeners like myself and joe and Charlotte are nicr listening in the morning so I'm happy.

Maybe it was just me but they came across like they were trying too hard to be funny, instead of being naturally funny. It felt so forced and unbearable radio to listen to.

I've only listened to Phantom for the past few years, post-pirate years, and I've really liked the shows and presenters over those years. I just felt the breakfast show was their downfall but it is better with Charlotte and Joe now.

Also, John Caddell gets a lot of unnecessary abuse on this. He plays a great mix of songs every day, which not a lot of presenters and shows on other stations do.

So Joe Donnelly remains on at Phantom after his buddy Keith more or less laid waste to the place...
I genuinely dislike the man's demeanour & presenting style and am flabbergasted as to why he was shoe-horned onto a specialist music station like Phantom in the first place, having caught his Alan Partridge-esque spot on Today FM a few times prior to that.
Also, it's Charlotte Flood's last day there yet he's on the Breakfast show now telling people to tune into 105.20 FM next week for exciting new developments.
    A proper Communicorp stooge.

    RIP Phantom.

I've been away for the past few months and just found out about this today. I have to say the most surprising thing to me was the amount of animosity these two generated, people really seem to hate them. In my own experience until now I had only seen the opposite. Started listening to them around the end of 2012 because a friend from college told me it was a good show and I didn't really have anything I was that fond of in the morning. I listened to TodayFM a bit and Dempsy was alright but I wasn't the biggest fan of the pop music they played and I had lost interest in Gift Grub. I was listening to Nova before that but I eventually got sick of hearing the same songs ad nauseam, plus I wasn't keen on Pat Courtney as a host.

I really thought these two had some good chemistry though and they seemed like a pair of genuinely sound lads. I seems like a lot of people were annoyed at them for "trying too hard to be funny" or for being too "wacky" but I always thought the humour was pretty dry and snarky for the most part. When I went home for summer I listened to them in the car on the way into work and they're the only hosts I could turn on that my dad liked listening too as well (he's normally got it stuck on RTE 1). My younger brother also switched over to have Phantom as his morning show that summer.

It sounds like some people just disliked them because they wanted less talk and more music but I don't know why you'd be listening to radio at all then. Certainly in the morning when I'm all sleepy I like listening to a bit of chat along with the music but why not just use an iPod or the internet if you just want some music with no talk? Do people still depend on radio this much as a music source?

Anyway, sorry to see Keith go. I suppose I'll have to see how it's holding up with just Joe and Charlotte when I get back soon. I wasn't aware of the falling number of listeners but sure I suppose if they really were driving people away then there's nothing else for it.

It's not Joe, Charlotte or even Phantom in the morning anymore. The station is TXFM, Joe is on in the late afternoon and Charlotte is no more.

All is changed. In February, Communicorp announced they were letting go a number of staff from Phantom. Phantom stopped (at least in name) around midnight March 16th 2014. Amongst the people let go was Charlotte Flood.

We then had a bizarre two weeks of 105.2 with a couple of "caretaker" presenters, practically no chat and a lot of automated music inbetween.

This week 1052 TXFM (or just TXFM) was officially launched. Joe Donnelly is now doing drivetime weekdays, without any co-presenter. Cathal Funge, who used to be on twice a week, is the weekday breakfast presenter.

You should look at the thread about TXFM on this forum. Also look at the other threads about Phantom on this forum. Also check out Phantom's forum under Hosted > Music.

Ah for feck sake, I leave for 3 months and look what happens. Who is hosting in the morning now then? And has Charlotte seriously not found a home elsewhere?

Cheers for the update, I guess I know where to look now then. I have to say that all sounds awful depressing though. Phantom was my go-to station, I never had any idea it was in such trouble.
