I think the last episode of community aired (4x08) was excellent. It showed progressiveness for the show in the Jeff/Britta storyline, and the Abed and Rachel one was adorable.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd say if the rest of the season is anything like the most recent episode, it's a good sign.

I don't quite understand the real, genuine hate for this season though. I mean....why not just not watch it? I don't understand why people would continue to watch something they don't like anymore, seemingly just to critique it.

    I don't know...

This point I already addressed; the criticisms are made because the show had been so good in the past; many of us are holding this latest series up to those high standards. This is completely reasonable and the forum would be a very dull place if its all posts on TV shows were fawning compliments, even in the face of an obvious decline. The hardest thing to do is to criticise something you love, and it hurts all the more when you know how good a show used to be.

I stopped watching the show last week, and only hang around here in case I see a general consensus that the show is back to something resembling its series 2 heights.

As for continuing to watch something one hates - well how is any right-thinking adult supposed to form a considered opinion on something without first watching it? Chicken and egg scenario there. And given how US shows - particularly sitcoms - can be slow to get going it's only fair any series is given a sensible number of episodes to prove itself.

I found this episode to be quite good, better than most before, but found the whole bit where the band played rather awkward.

I loved it, but once again, I enjoy most episodes so it's probably of no use for me to post this!

I really like how Pierce has been a nice guy in the last two episodes - his character was so ill-used in season 3 that it's nice to see. It's interesting how that since Dan Harmon has left that Pierce has gotten more decently written stories etc; one might start to wonder whether the ruination of the character had anything to do with their feud...

Is it just me or does Troy/Britta not work at all?

Are you conveniently forgetting the racist hand puppets and his odd argument about being Hitler?

This episode did nothing for me, imo lampshading a trope does not give you an excuse to use it, especially in as lazy a manner as they did. Abed's girlfriend is cute though.

I had no idea who Sophie B Hawkins was either so I spent a large part of the episode not understanding why everyone thought a non-existent person was going to show up. I mean you don't expect Sadie Hawkins to show up at her dance

All the characters are so uneven this season too, its as if the writers had no discussion about character development throughout the season and just randomly progress and regress them as needed.
Chang doing his fake amnesia bit gets less funny every time (and it wasn't funny to begin with) and I still think Troy and Britta are a terrible couple.

I've enjoyed the last couple before this. They were good. Not great, and certainly not Community. Community's gone.

This one was like a mediocre 90s sitcom that only got one season.

I thought they'd just given up on it and hoped the viewers would forget.

That's one of my biggest problems with this season, it's not even consistent across episodes. It's like they're throwing different things out there to see what sticks, but there's no overall character development plan.

It basically feels like season one of a completely new show, where it's trying to find its feet. The first few episodes of season one were a bit similar, most comedies are.

But you can't get away with that in the fourth season of a show that's only survived so far because of a cult following. You might pick up a few Happy Endings fans, but you're going to alienate your core viewing base.

And its been confirmed that Brie Larson (coat check girl) won't be in any more episodes this season... thats BS.
Regardless of whether you liked the plot or not, its stupid for them to build it up so much in one episode, finish on a "cliffhanger-ish" ending, and then not tie that plot up.

That was by far the worst episode of the season imo. I didn't laugh once.

I thought there were some funny lines, I liked the Professor Duncan shoutout, but I wasn't loving the whole puppet thing tbh.

I'm finally up to date on Parks and Rec, and I have it say its a much more consistently funny show.

    I loved that

About halfway through and the problem I'm having is their cutting back to real life way too often. It's like they're trying to imitate the wonderful claymation episode, but failing a lot.

It wasn't conviniently forgetting, I actually did totally forget about that :o

Know I'm going to be in the complete minority of posters on here (as always re: season 4), but I liked the puppet episode. The secrets were a bit crap though, apart from Jeff and Shirley's. And Pierce's Eartha Kitt revelation obviously.

The first hot air ballooning song, is very catchy, I've been humming it all day..

The main problem I found with this episode is that since they kept cutting back to real life, it felt kinda hard to be immersed in them as puppets.

Probably unintentional, but it now strikes me as humourous that Pierce had his Eartha Kitt revelation while taking a dump .. since Eartha Kitt is cockney rhyming slang for just that.

I thought that looked really promising for about the first four minutes. The snarking back and forth across the table felt like old times. In fact, I can't remember the last time everyone just sat around the table - an episode based mostly in the study room wouldn't go astray.

Then the Dean arrived, made a stupid Pinnochio pun, and it was mostly downhill from there.

The puppets thing might have worked, but not with the songs on top.
The cutting back to reality wasn't too bad - I found George Costanza's wig far more distracting.
There were a couple of OK gags, but without the puppet gimmick, the story was a bit weak, as were the "secrets" - I'm sure we've seen most of the characters do worse things in the past that the others mightn't all know.

And again, it's internally inconsistent. If no one can remember anyone else's secret, and everyone's remembering their telling of their own secret, how do we get Pierce's, since he's not at the table?

I really didn't like the end credits "making of" clips. I mean I liked them, looks like they had fun doing it, great, but that segment's always been part of the show. Even if I'd loved the whole puppet thing, that bit would have ruined it.

The end tag they showed at the end of last week's episode as a preview was meant to be this week's end tag. Last week's episode proper end tag is on hulu and on youtube too I imagine. One of the writers said on reddit that NBC wanted them changed around.

I'm two episodes behind :( time restraints aren't the reason and that genuinely makes me sad. Still, i have a soft for the show so im not ready to give up on it entirely

That makes an awful lot more sense. Between what seemed to be a preview tag last week and making of this week I thought they'd lost the plot completely.

Seriously? Is someone going to tell me my disappointment with that episode was based on preconceptions about writers leaving?

An absolute chore to watch. The worst episode of the season by far and probably the worst of the series altogether.

I had to turn it off there. Cringeworthy crap. Will eventually watch the rest of the episode, but that was bad.

I don't find many things cringy worthy really so it didn't bother me.
The first time I watched the episode I thought the song was pretty bad as well, but it was still stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Maybe we should have a separate thread to hate on Community?
Don't get me wrong, i am disappointed with this season also but it seems every post is the same people hating on it.

Maybe we could have another thread for people who aren't hating on it but aren't exactly loving it either?

Or you could ignore certain posts and not let them bother you. :)

People are allowed to have a different opinion. I still enjoy watching the show, but I definitely understand why people don't enjoy it anymore.

i understand too. I am not saying you're not allowed to hate it. But this thread has just turned into the same people coming in every week saying they hate the show.

On topic however, Does anyone know when the episode Jim Rash(the dean) is coming? I really want that one to be a success

Just started watching.. they say, "these British". Is it me or have they entirely forgotten about Duncan? Despite only referencing him in the last episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,465 ✭✭✭MOH

I went into that one determined to enjoy it, and thought it was ok in general.
Though again, why make the same joke about everyone else buying presents presents 3 times? We got it the first time, it's obvious anyway, and it's exactly like when the Germans kept booking the study room before them - over and over again.
Had it's moments, I liked Abed taking his shoes off and looking at the smashed ornament.

But the horrifically poorly done reference in the closing tag to one of the best ever episodes just showed once again how far the whole thing has fallen.

Two things, Annie looked damn hot in the other timeline and the kitten Abed had was ridiculously cute.

Jim Rash should become a permanent writer if the series gets renewed, easily the best episode of the season.
The season started off slow, but I really think it has gotten a lot better these past few episodes, bar the puppet one.
