Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cool :) If I'm not working I will definitely be going and, looks like just the two of us Beirhousing on Wed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 lennyd

Ah the rest of them are probably hungover today and couldn't type even if they wanted to! There was feck all in the gym earlier, there's a lot to be said for not going out on a Sat night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 Racheymoo

Well, I didn't go out but I still managed to generate a hangover haha!

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 lennyd

Good woman - i'm going to guess it's wine induced?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 Racheymoo

Indeed. In fairness to myself, it's my first hangover since new years day. So, have you made any new friends since joining this thread? It's MUCH easier to make friends when you're five. It's just not the done thing to walk up to people and ask them if they want to play in the sandpit with you when you're in your 30s. Apparently.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 lennyd

Was lurking around yesterday and said why the heck not. So no haven't gone along to anything that people have organised. If you built a sandpit for adults - it would make you a fortune! No right place to bring my bucket and spade. This needs to be further discussed over beers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 Racheymoo

Sounds like a promising business opportunity!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 Racheymoo

Amusingly, this just popped up in my Facebook feed - http://www.boredpanda.com/amazing-home-interior-design-ideas/ with the sand one as the link picture.

Isn't that yer wan that wrote Chocolat?? I obviously need to expand my literary knowledge :) Was going to go along to the Charlie Byrnes book club - you might want to go to that one if you don't get enough numbers through boards.

It is that one indeed! I saw Charlie Byrnes has one on alright but their choices don't overly interest me looking at their history. I think there might be people from my job going to it too and I prefer to do something where work doesn't get mentioned;)

Thanks to that work I don't think I can go to that talk either, shame because I'd love to!:(

Some of those are genius! Definitely would not want to be a cat owner with the sandpit though :) Oh the book staircase is amazing.

Dutchess if you go in that disguise I'll buy you your next book!

  • Registered Users Posts: 385 ✭✭Dutchess

    Tempting but I think I'll pass :p

My height and accent would still make me quite identifiable anyway. I think doing the voice as well would ruin me pretty quickly:D

If christian bale can somewhat get away with his batman voice you'll probably be grand :pac:

Soooooo, anyone else up for a drink/coffee on Wed eve? What could be more inviting than a group of complete strangers meeting for the first time to discuss the merits of sandpits and Joanne (with and E) Harris?? :D

Yes, just say when and where. :) I'm probably leaving Ireland soon, so any gathering would be nice before I leave.

Try the Friends Galway Facebook page. They organise classes and get togethers, I was at a table quiz recently, really good fun!

Yeah I'd be up for this. My girlfriend and I just moved here in January so would be great to meet some new people!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭TomJoe Wallace

I suppose I've been living here 2 and a half months and I haven't made any friends!

Being a broke student on placement doesn't help though!
I'm up for the banter if everyone else is :P

Sure let me know the story!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,480 ✭✭✭Chancer3001

I might be round for it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭kissmequick

Sorry not sure when yet chancer, some Fri/Sat eve perhaps, it just depends on numbers and interest I guess so it's hard to tell!

Have tried the people suggest dates they're free way but it didn't work out as far as I know! But maybe I should just suggest a date altogether, and see if people reply or will be available on that date then........?

Is there any other activities / stuff to do that people can think of?! :)

Well actually I think it's 6 that's needed for Bowling so another 1 / 2 peeps and we could have enough for a Lane?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,711 ✭✭✭Redhairedguy

Best thing to do is just pick a date and stick to it. I've often found that you can't suit everyone, and it's an incentive for those that missed it this time to suggest times/venues/dates that suit them best, next time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭kevthecelt

Hi guys, just moved to Galway with my bf and everything is going well work-wise, we really like the city but finding it kind of hard not knowing anyone here apart from each other... Did anything ever come of the meet up suggestions on this thread in the end? It seems to be so much harder and more intimidating to get out there and make new friends in your late twenties. Really missing having a few people to meet up with for drinks/chats on weekends.

ah **** just saw this! love quizzes

Hi Karbolt. Don't know if you saw my last message there about the table quizzes, but I love them myself and recently came across a facebook page where they notify people of upcoming ones 'quizzes in Galway-an Irish quiz organisation page' (can't post urls).

Don't know if you like them yourself, but if you fancy making up a team with myself and a few others sometime you'd be more than welcome. Same goes for anyone else interested on this thread :), cheers.

The cottage bar in Salthill runs a quiz the first Wednesday of every month, you need to book a table in advance. It's great craic.

Havent been at a quiz in years, whats the story with smartphones at them these days? I remember people bitching about them ruining things in college and that was before they really took off...

Last few I've been at recently (Albeit not in Galway) had the usual team who knew the Quiz Master, handing up answers they had googled from two rounds earlier and got away with it. If they had a proper no tolerance approach to smartphones itd be class haha. Even though most of the quizzes are for charity. I abhor people who'd go and bother cheating with their smartphones like.

Hi. Moved to Galway last week, back studying as a mature ( ;) ) student, anybody know of any 5-aside football going on and how to get involved?

I too would probably be up for table quizzes (I usually nail the music rounds) if there's interest.

Welcome, the soccer thread is here. Have a read of the last page or two and you'll get a sense of where and when they play.

Hey everyone! I'll move to Galway in February for an internship and I'm already a bit worried about not knowing anyone.
I'm German and actually I've never even been to Ireland before, but well, what's life without a little adventure :)
Does anyone have any good suggestions for me on how to meet new people when I come to the city? :)
