I get sharp pains too. Usually if I move too quick or cough/laugh. I think it's just round ligament pain. Been getting them for a while but not regularly. Suppose everything is growing & stretching- it's bound to hurt at times. Especially now when growing so much.

I have physio again tues but my GP has said nerve blockers might be my only solution. I can't stay in pain for 5 months!! It's really bad today & I'm in a right grumpy mood :-(

But 17 weeks today- yay!! We found out before I was even due my period so it's been ages- we are loving this few weeks, seeing a bump, knowing its now a proper baby & we'll soon know if boy or girl. He took ages to feel like a daddy- now he's worse than me, talking to it, hand on my tummy all the time etc. was pretty hard at first but worth the wait. How was your OH at start? I think it's hard for men to get into it when the only see a sick, hormonal partner & cant see or feel a baby. Or maybe it was just my guy!! :-)

Oh you couldn't be in pain until September, it would feel like a never ending pregnancy. At least you know you have the option of nerve blockers if it comes to that. I was thinking of you when I woke up this morning actually because I had an awful pain in my hip on the side I'd been sleeping on and I was wondering how you were feeling!

I found out before my period was due too. I remember being in a waiting room and the receptionist was wearing perfume, something about the smell just made me want to run out of there! My stomach was turning. I said to my husband, "Something weird is happening, I can smell everything!". I used to have a terrible sense of smell. Did a test really early the next morning, he was still in bed. I was expecting it to be negative but nope! I walked into the bedroom and said, "Looks like we're going to have a baby!". He kind of just looked up at me, said "Are we?" and then he went back to sleep. :pac:

When he woke up later, he said, "Wait, did you really tell me that you're pregnant!?" and he was so embarrassed because he thought he'd been dreaming!

He's great though. He's been to all of my appointments and he was such a help when I was really sick. He hasn't been rubbing my belly or talking to the baby really but he's so excited about picking a name. I often find him online looking up baby names. :) Your guy sounds so sweet! I'd love that! I think it'll be more real for mine when he can feel the baby move. I can't wait for that to happen!

He's sweet now but wasn't at first. At first I felt very alone in it- thank God for my sister!! He just didn't get his head around it & I was super sensitive, my hormones were seriously nuts the first trimester. I guess I pushed him away a bit too.

My clue was a metallic taste in the mouth & peeing all the time. I was on antibiotics at time & was told they caused it but I never had it before so I started thinking. Did 3 tests & then went to gp before I believed it was true. We was always careful with dates but I had been so sick since early December, I guess it wasn't on our minds.

3am and in pain in bed waiting for painkillers to kick in again. Not enjoying this part of pregnancy so much :(

17 weeks and had 4 scans due to some bleeding. My last scan was at 13 weeks but none again until 32 weeks. Doctor didn't say much at my last scan just everything was ok but was this an anatomy scan where he checked baby's kidneys, heart etc ? Or is that only by request.

How are you feeling now, emotionally I mean? I feel like I've become WAY more hormonal. My husband casually mentioned that we should make a will after the baby is born the other day in case anything happened to us and I burst into tears. It was crazy, he was just being practical but it resulted in me sobbing uncontrollably for about fifteen minutes about how awful that would be.

You poor thing, you must be exhausted if you're being kept up at night. Do you have one of those maternity pillows? Just wondering if you found them any use. I wake up with hip pain practically every morning now (nothing like you have though, my pain goes away after a while) so I'm thinking of buying one.

I am in the US but I have my anatomy scan next week at 20 weeks and I believe that they are generally at around that time of pregnancy because the baby is a good size to get a decent look at. Mine wasn't by request, it's a routine ultrasound but perhaps it's different in Ireland? I'd call your doctor or hospital to check.

Hope you and baby are doing well now! :)

Unfortunately anatomy scans aren't done as routine in every hospital in Ireland. They're done at 18-22 weeks and are more thorough than other scans. If your hospital doesn't offer it you may need to get it done privately

    How is everyone doing?

18 weeks tomorrow feeling big and bloated already. Clothes that I wore right up until my due date with my last baby are getting uncomfortable!
All belly though so can't really complain.

Had a bleed 2 weeks ago so being monitored more closely as the antidepressants can have negative side effects. They are also monitoring placenta and growth.
Been a rough few weeks but we're getting there big increase in fluid around baby so feeling more positive.

Hope your all keeping well x

Thanks for replies , hope you are all well. Was into my doctor today and he said once everything's growing ok they don't do it..

Sooo... After a few physio sessions & acupuncture this sciatica has just gotten worse. I'm totally missable now. Stuck in a mattress in the floor day & night & feeling pretty sorry for myself. Haven't slept more than 3-4 hours any night in the past 2 weeks or so & I am a tiered & emotional mess at this stage. I'm so desperate I've booked in to see a faith healer!!! Figure it can't do any harm & I'll try anything at this stage. I'm worried about having enough time worked up to get the state maternity leave. I need this to get better soon!! :-(

Sorry for the big moan. Guess everyone gets some crappy stuff with pregnancy & I had such an easy time up to this. At least I'm not big- it would be a lot harder with a great big belly & all the extra weight in later months!!

Hope everyone is keeping well & getting nice little bumps, feeling kicks etc. most of ye had morning sickness, hope its passed for everyone now. Xx

I do have one & it's great, especially at the moment. I think a pilllow between the legs is great too. I started that when lying on the sofa, my sister told me early on to sleep like that. Supposed to help with the hips.

This thread is very quiet , how is everyone doing?

Just wondering if all goes well with baby and labour what's the normal amount of time you are kept in hospital with your first?

When I was in hospital recently a woman beside me had her baby at 5.30am on Monday, straightforward labour and delivery. She was asked if she wanted to go home on Tuesday (would be discharged at 1pm-ish), but she chose to stay until Wednesday.

I had my baby at just after midnight in Holles St and was asked if I wanted to go home later that same day, as the ward was overcrowded. I said I'd rather not as I wasn't comfortable looking after the baby by myself just yet. Shortly afterwards, a midwife came to check on us and noticed that my baby didn't look right - he looked fine to me, I didn't know any different, as he was my first. He had low blood sugar and ended up in intensive care - could have been a lot worse if I'd agreed to go home to free up the bed!

I think we were in four days in the end, until he was stabilised. By all means go home as soon as possible when you feel ready, but don't be afraid to ask to stay longer if you don't.

I think the usual is 2-3 nights on your first, maybe 1 night on later babies (assuming normal birth etc.)

Thanks , I actually want to stay a few days, definitely 2-3 days. I'd be the worrying kind and would feel better.

SS you really had close one , things could have been so different

What do you all think of booking a private Anomaly scan ? Is it worth it for peace of mind? Its not done as standard in my hospital

With my first I stayed 2 nights. Straightforward delivery no pain relief etc I was blessed.

2nd was a section and I managed to catch pneumonia at the same time. So 5 night stay for us.

3rd was born at 1.30am on the Friday. Home by 3 pm Saturday. Once again straight forward delivery.

I'm in holles street this time hoping to be in and out as soon as possible. Think the minimum is 6 hours.

I've been induced twice with both natural births. Waters broke at 9.30pm with first baby in arms at 5.35am. Waters broke at 6 pm with 3rd baby in arms at 1.30am.

So pretty consistent labours time wise. Pain wise no comparison. I didn't even realise I was having contractions with my first until I was 9cm. 2nd time I was crying for gas and air at 4cm.

I used to love bagels with cream cheese before I got pregnant and from about 6 weeks onwards, the very thought of eating that ever again made me want to throw up. Today I had a cream cheese bagel for lunch and it was delicious! If I couldn't feel the baby moving around, I'd almost think I'm not pregnant at all! I'm feeling great and after weeks of sickness, so thankful.

I have also just scheduled myself a Hypnobirthing consultation. I am eager to have a natural birth (but obviously whatever it takes to get baby out safely on the day is fine with me) so I'm excited to find out more.

Crazy that we're halfway or more to meeting our babies! :)

Me too! I got first kicks on Sunday, just 3 but been kicking like mad today! Had only felt little flutters before Sunday- couldn't even be sure it was the baby but there was no denying the first kick. Today was great, feeling it there all day. Now it feels real :-) I'm really gonna be a mummy-woohoo!!!

    How is everybody doing now?

I am feeling a lot of movement these days, it's lovely. Really enjoying this stage of pregnancy. :) Hope you are all well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 455 ✭✭Leogirl

Just thinking I would post here too; ours is a very quiet thread!!

I'm feeling lots of movement too. Can feel kicks on the outside now!! Had my anomaly scan yesterday+my little girl is doing great. Everything looked good+healthy. So relieved. I knew it was a girl- put a bet on with my OH!! ;-)

Still in bits with this sciatica though+ it's starting to get me down. Hormones are s bit mad too- not the best combination!!

Apart from all that, feeling great+ its been a dream pregnancy so far+ I'm so happy shes doing well.

Just want my bump to come now!! Bit p*ssed off being told i don't even look pregnant!! If i was huge they'd be saying I was going to have a brute or am I sure its not twins!!

Leogirl I'm the same as you, everything going well but sciatica is tough! I tried a few things to help the baby moves when it gets bad which tend to help. Hot bath or getting on all fours and swinging my hips.

I'm booked for an anomaly scan soon, but I'm not sure if I'll go, would you recommend it?

I have a very obvious bump now but only arrived in the last couple of weeks and I'm 23 weeks. Yours will come too you probably just have strong stomach muscles!!

I certainly don't have particularly strong stomach muscles!! I wish!! It is my first though so I think that's made a difference. Also my mum+ sister didn't show til around 7 months on their first + still had good size babies. My mum wasn't even showing much when she gave birth!! I seem to be following them- no morning sickness, no trouble getting pregnant etc.

I would recommend the scan. I feel so relieved now knowing everything is ok- well as in all limbs+digits in place, palate is fine, most importantly all organs seem to be healthy. It's so thorough+ you can put so many worries out of your mind. I don't see any reason not to do it. We opted out of DS tests but that was just because it really wouldn't matter to us. This was just for my peace of mind+ if any complications then we can make plans with docs- ie surgery for hole in heart etc. Plus we were dying to know the sex.

So yep, I'd fully recommend. For me it was a lovely experience.

I've been lurking on this forum for weeks now. I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my second child (although my first baby is now 12 years old so this may as well be my first!)

Lots of movement at the moment, so sweet!
I've got my anomaly scan in the rotunda next week so really looking forward to it, fingers crossed.
They're keeping an eye on me for gestational diabetes, and besides the tiredness and morning dizziness I've been feeling great so far :)

    Hope everyone is feeling good!

You must be due close to me (23rd). Loving all the kicking+movement movement! Of course she wouldn't budge out of my pelvis on scan day!! I was outside the hospital drinking coke+ jumping up+down to get her head out so they could look at it. Usually that's the time she's really active. The bus journey must have made her sleepy.

That's what my mam said! I hope I bring some sunshine with me too, or at least that it doesn't rain for the two weeks straight that I'm there. :) I'm 25 weeks now and will be leaving here when I'm 27 weeks and flying home at 29 weeks. I've gotten approval from my doctor and the airline already to fly, I'm just hoping I don't suddenly get huge and uncomfortable! :pac:

I'm 23 weeks. They keep changing my date. I'm feeling good but the sciatica is still bad - been off work for ages now. I'm far from big+still hardly showing but i do have a bump now but not visible unless I wear more fitted clothes. It feels a bit weird! And the stronger kicks still startle me a bit. Other than sciatica though this has been a dream pregnancy. I've been very lucky. Dying for a proper bump though- everyone keeps telling me how tiny I am+ that they wouldn't know i was pregnant :-( Wish they'd think before saying stuff like that. I was worried until I got my big scan+was told all is bang on- inc her size!

How are you? Hope your big scan was all good. I was so so happy+ excited!!

Wishing baby would kick for my OH now!! He's feeling a bit sad+keeps saying she hides on him :-(

Hi ladies hope your all well.

23 & 5 today feeling surprisingly good. I'm normally awful when pregnant from beginning to end between infections and typical pregnancy things. Heartburn is my nemesis at this stage.

Off work for the bank holiday weekend and bought paint for the bedroom.

    Let the nesting commence

They changed my date in the very beginning but I didn't mind because it put me about a week ahead of where I thought I was. :) Has yours changed by much?

I'm the same as you really. I tend to wear looser tops so I wear all of my usual tops and you can only see a bump if I'm wearing something tight. If I ever mention I'm pregnant people are like, "What, really?". I hate people commenting on size in pregnancy, it's the worst. No pregnant woman wants to hear that she looks "too small".

Yeah, my scan was great. Do you get anymore at your hospital? I don't have another scan but I'm hoping to book myself in to see the baby in 3d.

And EXACT SAME! I always grab my husband's hand when baby kicks but he's only felt it once and he was kind of like, "Yeah, I think I felt something?". I want him to feel a big kick!

Choosing names is the hardest! Do you have anything in mind? I can't settle on one at all.

Glad to hear you're doing well. :) I am going crazy getting my house in order. I just moved in a month ago so still getting settled really but I have all of these ideas of things I want to get done before baby arrives.

Also on the September list, well my wife is. Little scared of coping as our other will be just 20 months and he's demanding. Still all to look forward to.

    Welcome balmedout!

They do say it's easier with a smaller gap. That's what I keep telling myself.
Our youngest will be 13 months when this little Madam arrives.

I want the baby NOW! I have everything ready, hospital bag packed, room ready for baby...I can't wait another 15 weeks :o I shouldn't wish the weeks away, and I'm so grateful that I'm feeling so great lately. I just feel like I've been pregnant for ages, can't believe I'm only 25 weeks. I will be insane by week 35!

I am taking on a two hour drive to the airport, followed by an eleven hour flight tomorrow (or later today in Irish time) all by myself. 27 weeks pregnant, wish me luck!
