    .........

Copy and paste of a PM I sent someone .............

There's nothing too specific with them really, they're basic enough and easy to see if they're right or not.

Head gasket issue bla bla :pac:

The 1.4 it will have either the R65 or a Ford box that I can't remember the code of pacman.gif Anyway if it's an R65 that isn't whiney than it's fine, if it's whiney it might go in the next 10,000 miles or so. The Ford ones (IB5 maybe were stronger)

The only really common thing is heater resistor pack failure, they burn out on speeds 1 and 2 on loads of Rovers/MGs, easy and cheap fix.

If it's an ex English yoke she may have rusty arches and sills, Irish ones shouldn't rust although I had a 1997 Rover 400 that was getting rusty around the lower arches, an Irish ZS would be ok though as they're young enough.

All ZSs should have the green inlet manifold gasket which are far better than the older black type which degraded and leaked. A reach around the back of the engine (while it's cold) to see is there any dampness there would be no harm to do, new manifold is only about €15 from LandRover dealers but no harm to know if it's needed or not, helps with the bargaining.

They have the Honda style rear suspension so a peak at the trailing arm bushes is worth it, when they wear the handling suffers a bit, no biggy, cheap enough to get but not an easy job on the drive at home, well do able though.

Don't think there's much really about them, good basic cars with savage handling.

Ideally you want the EKA code (4 digits) as well as two working fobs. EKA code can be sourced anyway but best to have it.

Head gasket issue only applied to the K series, right?

god no, a lot of other rover engines suffer from HGF, same as all car brands do.

That is a K series. The 1.8 everyone knows was bored out from it IIRC.

I meant the known design fault rather than the possibility of one ever failing...

Yep, the 1.4 in that is a K.
Lots of the hg failures are due to coolant loss from the inlet manifold or the water pump and a subsequent overheating rather than breakdown of the elastamere gasket itself.

Ya don't fancy giving that one a once over for me RJ do ya?

As bad luck would have it I was in Dublin yesterday but won't be for another good few weeks. Test drive it for an hour and a general look over and you'll be grand :)

God i F***ing hate Ireland  the road tax will cost more in a years time then the car itself.Only one owner too.good buy for someone with a big garage nothing else to say.
Yes but if that werent the case, the sale price would be higher

High tax cars are cheap to buy *because* of the high tax

If for example the 1600odd tax rate was halved, a lot of higher end cars would retain value a lot better

Looks like a very original car and an excellent ad. Fresh NCT, cheap tax and 7 seats. Should go on forever too. If I had the money I'd actually love one of these.

Steering wheel is original, even if it doesn't match the rest.
Not a bangeromics anyway, but the spec level for such a car suprised me...

Real pity it's red or I'd be all over it.

A nice navy blue would be nice in something like that would be fair decent. The red isn't great and doesn't appear to have aged well, much the same as most reds then.

Grand new shape avensis. Impress the neighbours for €1895

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3964539

    Seriously though, great value

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,382 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

A newer shape corolla hatch for €1500?

Has nct too. Suspiciously underpriced but worth a look all the same

God thats really nice (from a fanboi ish point of view)! is that the going rate for one of those or is that a bit cheap?

is the 1.6 thirsty in a car that big? i could only get low thirties out of that same engine in the SR Corolla?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,382 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

They're only really thirsty at high speeds. There's a lot of nonsense spouted about power and fuel economy on those yokes

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,382 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Could be a gem. Few marks on it but still, good haggling point

not sure of the point i'm trying to prove :pac: just an interesting price contrast.

i suppose you know with the e10 you'd most likely have zero problems except for a terminal does of dullness. i wonder could the e12 be had for the price of the e10 and would you be buying trouble, its rough around the edges for sure, but its ideal for the number plate conscious bangernomics fans.

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,382 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I'm sure there's haggle room on the e10. I'd be scared if I got money off that e12

i dont doubt you'd get a discount on the e10, and you know it'd go forever if you treat it right. e12 1.6 might be getting fond of oil perhaps.

i can only dream either way :pac:
