Decent enough. Not as good as Sinister or Dark Skies though.

Paper Moon is on Film 4 this afternoon at 13:10. Very entertaining yarn about a con man who meets his match in an 8 year old orphan. Ryan and Tatum O'Neal star.

RTE2, Friday 11:20PM: The War of the Roses. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as a couple heading for divorce, and Danny De Vito as their lawyer. Let's just say that it's not one of those amicable no-fault divorces ...

Or, if you want a bit more culture: The Merchant of Venice, BBC2, 12:10am. Shakespeare's tale of anti-Semitism in medieval Venice. This is where the term "a pound of flesh" came from. With Joseph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, and Al Pacino as Shylock.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

    — Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Astronaut

Sorry for late notice but Into The Wild is on Film4 at 10.55pm tonight (also on +1 at 11.55pm).

I know its one that divides opinion but its beautifully shot, a genuine emotional journey and a soundtrack by Eddie Vedder that is amazing.

My favourite movie of all time. If you haven't seen it, watch it.

Having seeing the film you should read the new evidence surrounding his death. It makes a convincing case, and gives a different perspective

Thanks for that. It's a good read and confirmed some thoughts I had were not accurate, I'm sure others had the same thoughts:
That McCandless had actually just committed suicide

Not sure how you came to that conclusion? I mean do you think he ate something poisonous on purpose? Or just sat around not eating until he died. Or do you mean that his going to Alaska like that was with the intention of never coming back?

Just came to that conclusion (one of many I came to) from talking to others about it, a lot while I was travelling in Alaska. Also read the original Outside magazine article, read Into The Wild numerous times, and the recent release of Back To The Wild. Some information within all those could lead one to suspect it was a possiblity.

But having read that article Manchegan posted, I now don't have that thought anymore :)

If you get SyFy, then Strange Days is on at 10PM tonight. It's ... strange, all right. Dark SF that involves virtual reality porn and snuff films ... not for kids.

How close was he to the highway?

How close was he to the highway?

Based on google maps he was only a few miles from the Stampede Trail where the gut dropped him off at the start of his isolation. It was the river that got in his way of getting back to it but with a map and a compass he would have been able to find an alternative route back. Unless of course he was already weakened by the toxins when he initially tried to leave.

Thats an argument that can be levelled at sci fi genre as a whole, in fairness. For every "a scanner darkly" theres 3000 unwatchable pieces of ****.

Didn't think A Scanner Darkly was all that. There. I've said it.

    Billion Dollar Brain (1967) 4.50 pm ITV4

Ken Russells instalment of the original Harry Palmer trilogy. Crazy right wing industrialist Ed Begley plots to invade USSR via Finland having unleashed the title machine. Daft as a brush but entertaining.

(note use of the old British billion in the credits - lots of zeros)
