Wuhlheide was amazing, as usual, last Thursday. There's just something about the venue that brings out the magic in Pearl Jam. Compared to the O2 World gigs in Berlin 2 years ago, this was already a better gig 3 songs into the night for me anyway.

I just can't get over the freedom of choice, there are about 30 stalls spread out around the venue, with a huge selection in drink and food for very reasonable prices. We waited at the top of the stands watching the floor fill up, taking it all in, and then 20 minutes before the boys came on we descended to the floor to get a great spot on Stone's side, comfortably without pissing any other fans off.

The sound was great but for one thing; Because we were on Stone's side and the sound engineer would pan the guitars in the mix to complement the aesthetic view of the stage, I was seriously missing some McCready tones. I spent a lot of the songs just imagining Mike's lead parts rather than getting my face melted off by them, but this didn't really detract from my enjoyment of the show. It should have, but there were far too many good things happening to not stop me from having the time of my life.

As for the songs, the ones that made it magical for me were In My Tree, Nothing Man, YOU FÚCKIN ARE!!!, Who You Are, Immortality, Sleight of Hand, Bee Girl and Crazy Mary. I got my hands on a setlist after the show to see that Leash was crossed out of the 2nd encore, but I got more than I ever thought I'd get with the songs they actually played.

That's me done for 2014 now. I got 2 serious shows in Amsterdam and a thunderbastard of a show in Berlin. I have 10c tickets reserved for Leeds but work is more than likely going to prevent me from making it. Enjoy Leeds and MK whoever of you are going over, by the looks of things the band and the sets are just getting better and better the longer this tour goes on. Age is not slowing them down and I'm already saving for 2016 :)

Any plans for an Irish gig?

I caught them in Auckland and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. They made it seem like they had only ever played one gig and this was it... very special.

Saw them again in the O2 and it wasn't the same. Although, the O2 is a rubbish venue. Never had a good gig in there besides Godskitchen's back in the 90's when it was The Point!

    so....

if Pj follow their touring pattern to date, they'll be in Ireland next summer...

    can anyone say Electric Picnic?

Sure hope they hit Ireland next year... not sure about EP, but I'd love to see them live.

Yeah would be good to see them somewhere else. A marlay park gig with Glen Hansard and someone else maybe? ( I know people aren't really a fan of marlay but it's handy for me and that's all that matters :p)

Fan of Marlay alright, Glen Hansard, not so much.

I think it'd be great to have them back, don't think they'd need to go for a festival though, they have enough pull to fill the O2 on their own.

I'd say its almost a guarantee at this stage that Hansard/The Frames would make an appearance (be it support or guest) when they play here again. Two of my favourite artists ever so I would be over the moon!

I'd hate to see them in Marley Park because the sound and set up is absolutely atrocious. I could take an EP appearance but I would need to be in a campsite by myself all weekend because I wouldn't be able to stop talking about them in the lead up to/after the gig!

Just got Vs in the post on Vinyl today. The effort they put into the sleeve designs is brilliant. Christ I wish I made the trip to see them this summer

I'm not sure how you would expect the sound to be much different at EP to Marlay park?

Having said that, I'd definitely take them at EP too, but only if it's a proper 3 hour slot like at Werchter this year!

That's an understatement. A healthy obsession is how I would describe it.

Sorry what I should've said was that I could take an EP set if it was going to be a 3 hour one. I'd just make sure I was in the pit.

Re-living the Milton Keynes show just now,Jesus what a storming 3+ hours. Will be very interesting to see how their next touring pattern works out. I personally think EP is unlikely for them, they'd need half a day to play their full show at it!!

They certainly owe us an Irish show but I'd happily go anywhere in Europe to see them again, well worth the trip to Amsterdam and MK this summer. The US shows in October are just a stretch to far for me this year unfortunately

I've no doubt this is true but I still won't be happy till I see them somewhere in the US,obviously Seattle would be the holy grail!!

I saw them in Seattle and while it was good it's prob not a standout gig for me. At least not as much as at MK this year or in Ireland in 2000, or 2006.

Really? Surprised at that tbh,I thought a hometown gig would have been a bit more special. I was at the other 3 gigs you mentioned and to be honest, they were sh!t hot!!

Saw them at their 2 Key Arena shows in '09 too, and they wouldn't be in my top 10 tbh. MSG in New York was a little more "epic".

Hey lads, I have a promo code for 30% off in the Pearl jam store for their black Friday sale that I won't be using, so it's open to one of you if anybody wants it. Doesn't include bootlegs unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭yllw.ldbttr

Got that as well via 10C mailing. It's not a unique code, so anyone can use it. Gives 30% off on Friday.

    BF2014

  • Temple of the dog reunion last night! Mike was playing with the seattle symphony, they performed three pieces of music, haven't come across any video of that yet unfortunately. Then there was a Mad Season 'reunion' with Cornell on vocals, they performed Long Gone Day, River of Deciet,I dont know anything, wake up and lifeless dead.

Then TOTD played reach down and call me a dog.

Concert finished with a tribute to Layne and Baker, a powerful performance of All Alone.

edit - heres a boot of the Mad Season portion of the gig

One of their best and most underrated songs..

I have a friend and thats his favourite song..standing beside him during a show in Shoreline ampitheatre in san francisco in 03 and it was his birthday and hed never heard it live, and suddenly Pj played it..one of my favourite show memories..full on with the feels :)
