Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm a big fan of the international rules series. Does anyone know if it can be watched live (on tv or through a website).

    Its on TG4 live

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,750 ✭✭✭iDave

Wish it was on RTE. There's just something about TG4 that makes everything seem small time. The GAA want this to work but put it on their little personal dumping ground channel usually reserved for club and leagues games.
Surely an olive should be extended to TV3 who were a pissed off by the Sky deal. Or heck even put it on Sky, it will give balls.ie another excuse to do a 'British Twitter reaction' article.

The fact someone is even asking this question shows this series is on it's last legs. I remember the days it was on RTÉ and it was advertised in every match programme throughout the summer and on TV in the weeks leading up to it. Now, hardly anyone knows it's actually taking place.

Zach Tuohy and the other pair of Irish players at Carlton are doing preseason work with the club rather than this. Under orders. Not sure about Walsh, he is getting over a serious hamstring injury but he has been back playing.

Wasn't Zach Tuohy playing for Portlaoise at the weekend - funny way of doing pre-season work!

Yup. Dont get it myself. Seeing as the Int Rules game is in Perth too. I think though Tuohy was going to be home anyway for family reasons, so he might have got the go ahead to play that. Mick Malthouse may have seen the IR game as too much. Plus the fact that Mick is a previous manager of the Aus team, maybe he is still wanting to do what he can to see them win.

He was already home for his sisters wedding and his child's christening which was on that week.

Yeah with the big photo shoot and all. Handy publicity wasn't it?! They may have contributed some way, but he was already home

That's your problem right there. I think it was well known that he was home for a holiday and was training with the Portlaoise lads. What may have happened is he delayed his flight back by a couple of days so he could play in the game.

Looking forward to this now immensely. Seems like the Aussie players are really up for it. I'm hoping to get out to Sandringham for the warm up game on Sunday but the weather looks brutal unfortunately.

Nice article about the Brisbane boys here

Anyone know if any of the australian players have even played the game before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,775 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Only really took a proper look at the Ireland squad in the last day or two. They're all good players but it's so uninspiring. The Aussies on the other hand have sent out a serious outfit.

8/15 about the Australians looks to be buying money provided they aren't on the piss all week.

quite a few of them have played before, Fletcher, Harvey, Dangerfield, McVeigh, Mitchell and Riewoldt from recollection, and a good few of them played in the junior IR games that used to be on too.

Here is a more complete player profile than my own blurb on page 1.

    http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-16/the-australian-irs-line-up

actually they have the games each player has played in the IR too so you can see exactly who has played it before.

some excellent odds out there on Australia to win by 19+ points. ill be throwing a few quid on that.

I couldn't really judge the sport well enough to know what the line ought to be, but the fact that you could probably pick two squads of GAA players that would be better than what we've brought while the Aussies are all All Stars looks pretty bleak.

Really hoping for a good game to revitalise the series as I've always enjoyed it when they've got the balance right between the two squads, but I think they've brought too good a panel and we've brought a very average one this time out.

Very poorly advertised game, i thought it was tomorrow morning, but apparently its Saturday morning.

same as that, they were usually Friday nights in Aus.

I wouldn't be lumping on the Aussies at all.

Awesome panel of players, but the rules of the sport are totally skewed in the Irish team's favour, most notably the round ball.

Its all well and good having a more physical, fitter, faster team, but that doesn't matter at all if you cannot put the ball over the bar.

Before they always had a test or two to get used to the round ball, notoriously starting slowly, before winning the last test, and the series. Now they have to get straight into it. Ireland will go for goals, knowing that the Aussie keeper is going to be rubbish.

Irish players have got bigger and more physical over the last few years, to deal with the more physical nature of Gaelic Football, and so will be better equipped to deal with the Aussie physicality.

Plus with Seán Cavanagh in the team they have a top class Aussie Rules Style tackling coach in the ranks.

Yes its amateurs vs professionals, but the game is 70/30 Gaelic Football/AFL. Seán O'Brien is a professional rugby player, but only makes Junior B in Carlow! ;) :P

Ireland to win by 10 with around 40% possession.

Men against boys stuff. Irish lads seem to be forgetting they can bundle them over the line if they want.

Irelands defence can't hold this onslaught.

Lee Keegan lucky there, possible penalty.

Just about to say the same thing "Men against boys". Could be a hiding here unless the Irish settle. Support play is dire so far with Irish players reduced to handpassing to the Aussies

Great score. Aussies are flying. First to everything.

    Aussies look quicker and fitter.

Picking off their points with surprising accuracy too.

Obviously taking it seriously this year.

well this is pretty one-sided so far. Probably good for the future of the series though
