Is this some combo of Sirloin meets striploin?

It's one or the other depending on availability I'd imagine.

You are correct. It is Striploin.

The 1kg Turkey was originally priced at €9.99 (save 99c)
Thr Angus Ribeye/Striploin was originally priced at €11.99 (save €2.99)

Great to see the rib eyes back. I've also noticed recently if you keep an eye on Lidl's 30% off section in the meat fridges then you can get lucky with steaks now and again. I've got Hereford rib eyes and striploins twice in the last couple of weeks at 30% off, I really must make a note of the days they're most likely to be there.

My god just had one of them rib eyes that honestly was one of if not the best steaks I ever had. They are a beautiful piece of meat for the price. You can tell by the colour too that its aged beef giving it its tenderness.

I may just have the other before I go to bed :D

FYI. Venision Steaks were €4 in Athlone at the weekend there. Ive yet to pop them on the barbie, but they were fantastic months ago, last time they were €4.

    +1 on the rib eye.

Tesco have Finest Irish Angus Ribeye Steak at 33% off. Works out cheaper than Aldi.

Genuinely Tesco and Dunnes sell pretty poor steak in comparison to the Germans

I'd agree generally speaking, but the Tesco Finest Rib-eyes are pretty sweet.

€3 for a lovely big Aldi sirloin in bray, not sure if thats a special offer or a new permanent fixture, anyone know? Im having one for dinner this evening anyway.

They often reduce the price when Use By date is coming. Nothing wrong with that meat anyway. Just needs to be used on the day of purchase or soon after.

Those Specially Selected that are on offer now are way, way better than their regular tray packed beef. Had the Striploin one last night and it was perfect.

If only they were €9 permanently:mad:

€11 is a bit steep for me tbh.

Or you can freeze it if you get it at reduced price, and I think infact they are normally almost €12.00 (€11.99) :(

21 days vs 28 days on the Aldi ones, Aldi ones are slightly larger in weight but not much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,688 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Can I eat one Aldi ribeye tonight and freeze the other one until next week or will that turn all the fat into slime when I thaw it out?

I.v bought the rib eye when they are on offer, and thawed them out when they are on the menu. I think that standard of
meat would have no problem being frozen and thawed.

The €3 Lidl Ribeye wasn't a scratch on the Aldi one. It was nice but it lacked a lot of flavour. Clearly those 7 days of aging make a huge difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Good, went with the Aldi ones myself when there was none in Lidl Bray.

Im eating crazy amounts of steak these days, cant resist it when its only €3 or less and it comes out of the airfryer cooked to perfection, got one of the Aldi double packs of ribeye for €4 the other day, 30% off marked price sticker on it even though there was still 2 days until the use by date.

steak on an airfryer? Are you high?

8 minutes in an Airfryer will give you the tenderest steak you ever ate, Ill never go back to a pan now, only the barbeque does it better, here's one I did earlier:

I like it rare, is 8 minutes for medium?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

8 minutes is medium but leaning towards the rare side of medium, nearly tastes rare and looks medium with lots of juices, 6-7 minutes there might still be a line of pink in the middle Id think. This was after heating the airfryer for 5 minutes beforehand aswell at max. The thickness was the regular thickness you get in Aldi steaks, 1.5-2 cm.

do you let it rest afterwards or tuck right in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

I never understood letting meat rest but it takes a couple of minutes to wipe down the Airfryer with kitchen towel afterwards so its sitting on the warm plate with the mash for a few minutes before I eat it if that counts? Give it a try if you have one, Im turning into an addict. It should be healthier than the pan anyway as you get a glass of grease in the driptray while the meat remains nice and juicy.
