    The Devil’s Hour
Amazon has greenlit a creepy thriller series from Hartswood Films, the British production company behind shows including Sherlock and Dracula.

From the mind of rising British writer Tom Moran, The Devil’s Hour is a UK original that tells the story of a woman who wakes up every night at exactly 3.33AM, in the middle of the so-called devil’s hour between 3AM and 4AM.

Lucy Chambers’ eight-year-old son is withdrawn and emotionless. Her mother speaks to empty chairs. Her house is haunted by the echoes of a life that isn’t her own. Now, when her name is inexplicably connected to a string of brutal murders in the area, the answers that have evaded her all these years will finally come into focus.

The series, announced at 3.33AM in the UK, is executive produced by Hartswood bosses Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue, the creative forces behind Benedict Cumberbatch’s BBC Sherlock series. Moran also executive produces, while Johnny Allan is set as the director after helming episodes of Netflix’s The Irregulars. Production will commence later this year.

Nickelodeon Set to Expand ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ With ‘Patrick Star’ Series

Brian Robbins walked into a meeting where executives were deciding whether kids-media giant Nickelodeon should pick up “SpongeBob SquarePants” for a twelfth cycle, and asked what he thought was a simple question: With so many characters populating the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, how come the network had never created any spin-offs?

“It really is like a mini-Marvel Universe,” says Robbins, who was named head of Nickelodeon in 2018.

Fans will get to see another part of the always optimistic sea sponge’s world soon. The ViacomCBS unit has greenlit 13 episodes of a family-oriented comedy featuring SpongeBob’s pal, Patrick Star. “The Patrick Star Show” is slated to debut this summer, and will focus on a younger version of the character, who hosts a TV program and lives with his family. Bill Fagerbakke, the longtime voice of the animated pink starfish, will play the title role.

‘Party Down’ Limited Series in Development at StarzAre we having fun yet? A limited series follow-up to “Party Down” is in development at Starz.

The network announced that it is “reviving the party” with the development of this upcoming six-part “Party Down” limited series. The use of “reviving” implies that the original cast will be returning. However, at this time no official cast announcements have been made.

“At the end of 2019, the ‘Party Down’ cast and producers were all reunited at a retrospective for the show hosted by Vulture. We had such a good time that we wanted to find a way to get the team back together again,” said executive producer Rob Thomas. “The cast is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do it may require trigonometry, but we’re determined to make it happen.”

    We Own This City
We hear that the latest HBO project from The Wire’s EP David Simon and producer George Pelecanos is finally coming together with the premium network recently quietly greenlighting the project and casting already underway. The duo are working on a limited series based on the Random House book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption by investigative journalist Justin Fenton.
Simon and Pelecanos are writing and executive producing We Own the City.
Pelecanos told us back in October 2019 during The Deuce series finale, that their “next project is set in Baltimore, a miniseries for HBO. We rounded up the old (writing) crew from The Wire” and that the new show wasn’t a spinoff of that two-time Emmy-nominated series.
We Own the City is set in Baltimore 2015. Riots are erupting across the city as citizens demand justice for Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old Black man who has died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody. Drug and violent crime are surging, and the city is reaching its highest murder count in more than two decades: 342 homicides in a single year, in a city of just 600,000 people. Facing pressure from the mayor’s office—as well as a federal investigation of the department over Gray’s death—Baltimore police commanders turn to a rank-and-file hero, Sergeant Wayne Jenkins, and his elite plainclothes unit, the Gun Trace Task Force, to help get guns and drugs off the street.

    In With The Devil
Emmy winner Ray Liotta will make a return to series television as a lead opposite Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser in Apple’s limited series In With The Devil, an adaptation of James Keene and Hillel Levin’s 2010 novel In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, from Richard Plepler’s Eden Productions, Imperative Entertainment and Apple Studios.

The six-episode limited series, written by bestselling author Dennis Lehane and directed by Michael R. Roskam, is told through the lens of an intimate relationship between two prisoners (Egerton, Hauser), exploring the lengths that people will go to in order to seek redemption, if true absolution is ever really possible, and if so, at what costs.

Steven Spielberg Bringing Stephen King’s The Talisman to Netflix
In collaboration with Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers

Steven Spielberg is teaming with Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers to bring Stephen King and Peter Straub’s fantasy epic, The Talisman, to Netflix as a series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deals are still being finalized and in negotiations.

For nearly 40 years, Spielberg has owned the rights to an adaptation of the nearly 1,000-page novel and long expressed a desire to bring it to the screen. “I feel that in the very near future, that’s going to be our richest collaboration,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. “Universal bought the book for me, so it wasn’t optioned. It was an outright sale of the book. I’ve owned the book since ’82, and I’m hoping to get this movie made in the next couple of years. I’m not committing to the project as a director, I’m just saying that it’s something that I’ve wanted to see come to theaters for the last 35 years.”

While Netflix’s adaptation doesn’t quit fit Spielberg’s original vision, the filmmaker will undoubtedly pleased with the talent involved in bringing the series to fruition. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stranger Things executive producer and writer Curtis Gwinn will act as the showrunner and writer for the series. Matt and Ross Duffer will executive produce via their Monkey Massacre Productions while Spielberg executive produces via Amblin Television along with partners Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. King and Paramount Television will also executive produce.

    SAS: Rogue Heroes
The BBC has announced the cast for SAS: Rogue Heroes, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s dramatized account of how Britain’s Special Forces unit was formed in the darkest days of World War Two.

Connor Swindells (Sex Education) will play David Stirling, with Jack O’Connell (The North Water) as Paddy Mayne, Alfie Allen (Game Of Thrones) as Jock Lewes, and Sofia Boutella (Modern Love) as Eve. Dominic West (The Wire) will play Lieutenant Colonel Wrangel Clarke.

Produced by Banijay-owned Kudos, the series also features Amir El Masry (Industry), Theo Barklem-Biggs (Carnival Row), Corin Silva (The Bay), Jacob Ifan (Bang), Dónal Finn (Cursed), Jacob McCarthy (The Last Summer), Michael Schaeffer (Chernobyl), and Miles Jupp (The Great).

SAS: Rogue Heroes centers on Stirling, an eccentric young officer, hospitalized after a training exercise went wrong. Convinced that traditional commando units don’t work, he creates a radical plan that flies in the face of all accepted rules of modern warfare. He fights for permission to recruit the toughest, boldest, and brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit that will create mayhem behind enemy lines.

Knight said: “The people who are depicted and who did such extraordinary things were young, in their 20s, and we have made a conscious decision to cast people of the same age. We enter this project with a spirit of adventure and believe our young and talented actors will do justice to this period of history.”

Production is underway on the six-part series, with Tom Shankland (The Serpent) directing. The drama will be executive produced by Karen Wilson, Martin Haines and Emma Kingsman-Lloyd for Kudos, and Tommy Bulfin for the BBC. Stephen Smallwood is the producer. Banijay Rights is repping the series.

    more character details
Bennet’s Blossom “was a spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees,” according to the character’s official description. But as an adult, her “repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again — this time on her own terms.”

As for Bubbles, whose “sweet-girl disposition won America’s hearts as a child,” Cameron’s character “still sparkles as an adult, but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.”

And then there’s Buttercup, who was “the rebellious badass of The Powerpuff Girls in its heyday. More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.”

Martin and Snodgrass edit the “Wild Card” books, while Gerardis is Martin’s manager. UCP will produce for Peacock.

In the series, an alien pathogen known as the Wild Card virus is released over Manhattan in 1946, altering the course of human history. The virus rewrites DNA, mutating its survivors. A lucky few are granted awe-inspiring superpowers, while the sad majority are left with often repulsive physical deformities.

‘Loudermilk’ Season 3 Headed to Amazon

After temporarily losing its home on AT&T’s now-defunct Audience Network, Sony Pictures Television has announced that Season 1 and Season 2 of the Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort co-created comedy will premiere on Amazon’s SVOD service Friday, March 12. Additionally, a premiere date for the Ron Livingston-starring series’ third season will be determined and unveiled soon. Farrelly (“Dumb and Dumber”) and Mort (“The Colbert Report”) return to write and executive produce.

“I could not be more pleased that ‘Loudermilk’ is finding a second life on Prime Video,” Farrelly commented in a statement. “It’s a show that I’m extremely proud of and one that deserves to be seen by all. I would argue that it has the best ensemble cast on television and deserves to be in the conversation with ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and ‘Cobra Kai,’ shows that started on one network but found a much wider audience on another. This show is going to give you binge-watching at its best!”

Claire Foy and Paul Bettany have been cast in the lead roles of “A Very British Scandal,” a followup to “A Very English Scandal,” Variety has learned.

The hour-long, three-episode series focuses on the divorce of the Duke (Bettany) and Duchess of Argyll (Foy), one of the most notorious, extraordinary and brutal legal cases of the 20th Century. The series will examine how the Duchess refused to go quietly as she was betrayed by her friends and publicly shamed by a society that reveled in her fall from grace.

The hour-long, three-episode series will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the U.K. and on Amazon in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Filming will take place across the U.K. later this year.

    Walking Tall
David Eick, one of the exec producers of the 2003 version of Battlestar Galactica and a number of its spinoffs, has closed a couple of developments with the NBCU family.

The writer/producer is developing a remake of 1973 feature film Walking Tall, which was later remade with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, at USA Network and a Romancing the Stone-esque sci-fi series at Peacock.

WWE star Charlotte Flair (left), who featured in Psych: The Movie, is attached to star in the reboot, which has received a script sale from the cable network and is being set up as a two-hour TV movie with the hope of future instalments or as an ongoing series.

Flair, the daughter of WWE legend Ric Flair, will play a Tucson cop who finds herself caught in a web of fraud, exploitation and murder, and is forced to go full vigilante to protect her home town from falling victim to modern corruption.
