My convertible has left the US, hopefully have it early next week. This aldi/lidl jacketis just no good, bang off it after every cycle :o

I got my delivery from Evans today. I already have the jacket in a large which I found that I had plenty of room in the chest area. I've lost some weight since and I went for a large and medium in the short sleeve. I thought I might get into the medium but it's too tight in the shoulders for me, so it's up for sale.

If anyone here is looking for the SS black in a medium,I'll be sticking it up on the cycling adverts section either tonight or tomorrow.

Anyone with an L or XL care to comment on sizing?
    I'm 41 inch chest, 6 foot 2, 13 stone

    thanks

I have a XL convertible which is too big for me now. When I bought it I was probably 12 stone, 40" chest & 5'10. It was a little long but fitted ok (not super tight) otherwise.

Large fits me fine @ 6' 1" and a little over 11.5 stone. Enough room underneath for a baselayer definitely.

While normal advice is to size up in Castelli, for the Gabba, buy your normal size, I'm a medium, 5 11, 76kg, fits perfect.
    Savage piece of kit.

6'2" 77kg 39-40" chest. XL is perfect. Right and tight. L would be too tight for me

6'1, 12.5st, 79kg.39-40@chest Large works for me, but i like my cycle gear snug, i still have room to get a couple of base layers underneath

i wouldn't be going large if i were you, XL should work well

Glad to see a topic on this and thanks for the ebay link

I was wondering if anyone could comment on the sizing (seems the usual -go 1 larger than normally wear) and the warmth of the jacket versus jersey. Im just wondering which is going to get most use. Am i right in saying the jacket with detachable arms is still too warm May/June to August/September and really would only be for outside of those months. If you were to put a number on it what temperature would you think is the starting point at which the jacket even with arms taken off is too warm? I really need a good jersey/jacket but cant decide between the two. I know there the option of buying both but it seems that would be mega overkill!

Just got mine from Ebay last week.
Its a snug fit . I am 5ft 10' 74kg and I got a medium convertable. It is heavier than a normal jersey but very comfortable. I have only been out for a short 40k spin with it sleeves detached so cannot really comment on long term suitability. Expensive but seems like it will be good into winter

ordered last friday night off evans and arrived on tuesday- ordered the yellow ls in L. i'm 5'10 and 81kg - fits nicely on body - a medium wouldn't have fitted - little loose on sleeves but once on bike will be fine -
lovely feel to it and looking forward to wearing it tomorrow morning

I bought mine weeks ago and it's still sitting there unused with the tags on. Is it not still very warm to be wearing it?

Is Evans the cheapest website to get this jersey and for current owners is it really worth the cost?

Would easily fit one good thermal anyway but not so sure after that. It would be tight on but should be a bit anyway as needs to be stretched to work best im told.

I was looking into one of these and found out that Castelli and Sportful are owned by the same company. Sportful make a jacket called the no rain Fiandre, that seems to be very similar to the Gabba. The sportful arm warmers and leg warmers seem to be cheaper too. can't find any deals on the jacket at the moment but might be another one to keep an eye on.

Ive a cycle from Galway to Athlone (100Km) Monday coming - Weather is promised 14 degrees, with a cloud/sun and maybe showers - Too warm to wear short sleeved Gabba with same arm warmers ?

Gonna drop this in here for the moment until I get the ok to start the winter kit thread.
Verge Sports have developed their own version of the Gabba and will be fully printable and will more then likely be an option for the winter kit thread.
Don't know a price yet but should know shortly!

Yeah I assumed I was 40/41 until I got the measuring tape out.

    I guess I'm not 6 foot 10 inches either!

    Heads up on www.competitivecyclist.com

They had a flat rate $50 international shipping charge which is absurd so i decided id chance my arm and use their live chat link to talk to someone. I basically asked was there any cheaper option available (expecting a no) and they replied asking what i thought was fair. I said $30 would be max id have excepted and low and behold he immediately agreed to a $30 shipping fee! Wish id said $10 now :P

So i managed to get the convertible jacket for $183.97 (about €140)! On route via UPS right now and due for next Monday, cant wait!

Oh and actually when i went back to actually order (i had to order at the full rate and he adjusted it on my order immediately) it jumped to $74.99! He still accepted the $30 fee

Mathie: Hi Trevor any chance of a reduced rate for shipping a jacket to Ireland? Currently shipping is $75 :) thanks Mathie

Trevor J.: Unfortunately at this time we're not able to discount international shipping rates.

I am the Lance Armstrong of customers.

Has anyone done he 're-activation' in the dryer? Last night was torential and all but mine seem to soak through fairly completely. an previous proper wettings still leave the chest area dry but last night I was sodden....ansd this was coupled with the gabba gillet too.

Covered earlier in the thread -
    http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/pn1882.html

    "C. Consignments of Negligible Value
Consignments not exceeding an intrinsic value of €150 may be imported from outside the EU without payment of Customs Duty. Intrinsic value is the value of the goods alone and does not include insurance and freight)."

Was out in Base2Race last night and they have the short sleeve Gabba for €190 but then a sticker on saying 20% off so brings it down to around €150. Seemed to be few sizes there and the yellow and black colour.

Will probably avoid the customs duty but get caught for VAT for value over 22 euros?

    3. Consignments of Negligible Value
Consignments not exceeding an intrinsic value of €150 may be imported without payment of Customs Duty. (Intrinsic value is the value of the goods alone, and does not include insurance and freight). Consignments not exceeding a total customs value of €22 may be imported without payment of VAT. (Customs value is the value of the goods plus insurance and freight (which includes postage costs (CIF value)). However, it should be noted in particular that there is no relief (from Customs Duty, VAT or Excise duty) under this negligible value provision for importations of tobacco, tobacco products, alcohol products, perfumes or toilet waters irrespective of their value.

You only put it in the dryer after you've sprayed it with the waterproofing spray

Duty and VAT are two totally different thing's. Goods(items) over €22 incl cost of carriage from outside the EU are reckonable for VAT at the standard rate for the full invoice value ( the €22 limit does not apply)

If the consignment is shipped via UPS, they will supply Customs with an electronic manifest showing value of contents per declared value. Its quite likely you will have to pay VAT.

Let us know how it goes.
