An update on Bruce, from Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden's manager
Bruce has asked me to thank everyone for their tremendous support and kind wishes. He has been extremely touched and encouraged by the genuine and affectionate response from our global family of Maiden fans. Radiology is cumulative and continues to build in the body for around three weeks after treatment, so even though Bruce’s seven week course is completed, he’s had a long period of considerable pain and discomfort. He is happily now starting to recuperate and the pain will continue to abate and the swelling to reduce for the next couple of months at which time he will be able take an MRI scan. It is not until then that we will have full confirmation that the cancer has been completely destroyed. However prognosis continues to be extremely good and everyone is optimistic for a full recovery. Following the scan, we will officially update you on our website at the appropriate time, probably in late May. After that, it will take a few more months for Bruce to get back to full fitness. Naturally the rest of the band are totally supportive and Maiden’s plans will be determined by Bruce’s progress. Please continue your positive thoughts. They are very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Rod Smallwood

I suppose you can only re-release 'remastered' CDs so many times. Remastering for digital release is the obvious next cash cow. Will anyone really buy these though?

Not sure...me personally saw the itunes part and tuned out.

And apparently they somehow managed to make them sound WORSE than the awful remasters from 1998. Why do all these bands basically not care about something so fundamental as how their albums sound? (The Judas Priest remasters are awful too unfortunately)

Debut album released 35 years ago today. As good a reason as any to give it another listen. It'd been ages since I played it.

New Drinking Game. Every time they say "f*ck", have a shot. Everyone will be pissed by 3 minutes in.

And I'm sorry, but this is one of the best things Iron Maiden have ever released (it's absolutely priceless). Fair play to Dickinson for having the cuteness to record it. Absolutely brilliant! And no, this isn't my first time hearing it, but it is just so good. Needs to be brought back up! :)

Good news regarding Bruce's health and while there'll be no tour this year, it looks like we'll definitely be getting the new album!

Really glad to hear that Bruce has got the all clear, you just never know with cancer, just heard the news that Terry Jones, the singer with nwobhm group Pagan Altar lost his battle with cancer this morning.

You're not wrong! I see the last track is 18mins alone. Shortest track is 5mins.

I hope it'll be good, though.

While I don't mind long songs, I hate the slow intros that nearly every long Maiden song has had on the past couple of albums.

Reading the description on the site and seeing the cover art I have chills! I'm so excited for this album, it looks like it'll be truly epic.

Reverting to my 10 year old self but that cover art is really reminding me of Piece of Mind which is a really good omen too :D

Flight 666 is a great film. Just decided to watch it a while ago on a recommendation. While Maiden's music doesn't really do it for me, the film clearly shows that they're an amazingly hardworking and charismatic bunch of lads and very talented too.

How do maiden make 3 very good guitarists work? 2 guys playing the same notes while the other plays different? No need for it. Jobs for the boys:D
    No egos there

Just thinking about the upcoming tour. As they usually play for around 90-100 minutes, if they play any more than one of two from this album , there'll be feck all time left for any of the other stuff.

It works great, IIRC one of the stipulations of Bruce rejoining was that Adrian also came back, Jan had been great and they were not willing to let him go so that's why they have 3 guitarists

More like 120mins, sure they'll play 2 or 3 new tracks, if they choose the longer ones they may be edited down

yeah, the triple axe attack is great...now if only jan would stop acting like an idiot on stage and instead concentrate on his playing…

Iron Maiden is being tipped for a lifetime achievement gong at one of the next major uk award shindigs, sounds good. Hopefully the possessed MileyC/KimKardigan/JessyJ types won't be around to spoil/pimp the stage.

Did some long-haul flights few years ago to US/Can/NZ/Malay etc not sure but think the announcement said the captain was Bruce Dickenson on the way out of one of the airports (maybe LAX), can't be certain as the random nice lady beside me was babbling a fair bit due to her ADHD...

I'm with you on AMOLAD (great album imo) but I thought the FF was only ok.

Too many songs that took an age to get going that could easily have had a couple of minutes knocked off each. Which is why I'm kind of worried about some of the songs on this one!

It could be great - but I was hoping for a more 'economical' approach to the songs especially after some comments from Adrian about needing to write shorter songs after The Final Frontier.

As much as I enjoyed the gig in 2006 (I really liked AMOLAD) doing the whole album in sequence was a bit of a risk so it'll be interesting to see what they do on this tour. Ultimately they'll do what they want regardless of the fans reaction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭savemejebus

I loved seeing them doing AMOLAD in full, and with the way they intersperse 'era' tours with new album tours I'd be happy to see them do it again. IT's great to hear them do the classics but, if the songs are good, i like to see as many new as possible in the sets because, let's face it, it's quite possible that we may not have a chance to see them played again.

It was a good enough gig despite the sound in The Point being terrible. I wasn't too impressed with them playing AMOLAD in full, they could have thrown in some surprises.

i was at that, too...generally positive memories, yet as you wrote, a few surprises would have been nice and playing the whole thing was probably not maiden’s all-time career highlight….

The last album was utterly terrible, with not a single standout song for me. It was Maiden's worst album ever. All the the other albums had standouts or were excellent from start to finnish, but the last album was the worst. I'm somewhat sceptical about this album though. Although at the same time I'm looking forward to it. If this album is bad, then it really will be time to call it quits. I like that they've went back to the classic Eddie this time. The cover is good but not anything incredible as the Derek Riggs art.

Definitely my least favourite of the Bruce Mark II albums but I wouldn't say it's their worst. Virtual XI is terrible and apart from the title track, it's better than most of Fear Of The Dark.

The Final Frontier was a good album. The intro, title track, lead single and last track all stand out.

AMOLAD was a great album from start to finish.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 Astro Zombie

Not sure if I could bring myself to call any of their albums their 'worst' as the musicianship has always been fantastic, but the last one did take a while to get in to.
