Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Some good convection out there today, not expecting any action around here but if they keep building over land then the east coast could be in for some fun later

Taken with my sh!tty phone camera so it didn't really come out well but there's a nice storm developing here, gonna keep an eye on it on the radar and see what comes of it :)

Temps have been up and down like a yo-yo but currently its 10.7c.

If i'd spotted it a bit earlier i'd have gone down that way to have a look but it's probably a bit too late now.
Ps i count 6 sferics around that location on the uk met office data ;)
    http://andvari.vedur.is/athuganir/eldingar/eldingar.txt
    EDIT: Now 10 sferics
EDIT 2 :p looking at that again it appears some of the strikes were recorded twice with the same timestamp it appears you were right with 4! Now up to 7.

(We got 0.4mm in two separate one-minute hail/rain drops from the edge of showers passing, I'd guess, over the city centre)

The pics are a bit big, sorry. Just press (Ctrl and -) a few times to zoom out to view them.

Here's some of my pics from today. No thunder but interesting all the same! Cheers to Iancar for the advice on HDR a while back!

We had some hail and a couple of downpours. By far the most interesting part of today's weather was the cloudscapes it presented. Hoping for more of the same tomorrow.

Take three or more pictures in rapid succession with varying exposures so one captures details in the brightest parts and has shadow details in the darkest parts and then blend them.

    Storm & Convective Forecast - Issued 10/04/2012 23:00
    Forecast Summary Map

    Valid: 11/04/2012 00:00 - 12/04/2011 00:00
Headline: ... THERE IS A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS FORECAST...
    Synopsis
Upper trough has now become established across the UK which will create an unstable and showery airmass across much of the UK on Wednesday.
    convmap_110412.jpg

EIRE, WALES, S SCOTLAND and ENGLAND

Upper trough across the UK (with sub -30C 500mb temps) will lend to steep lapse rates and a readily unstable airmass across much of the UK and Eire on Wednesday.

Surface heating will build a few 100 j/kg CAPE by the afternoon - which will allow widely scattered t-storms to develop. Thunderstorms are possible almost anywhere inland accompanied by hail and thunder, but are likely to be most concentrated and slow-moving across central and eastern areas of Britain, bringing a heightened risk here of localised flooding. Also, with a rather slack synoptic flow, sea breezes look to develop inland from the east coast, as pressure falls inland with diurnal heating, which will likely lead to convergence from eatsern Scotland down to Kent with the possibility of a few funnels developing and perhaps an isolated weak tornado with more buoyant updrafts.

Issued by: Nick F - Forecaster for Netweather

Yep looks good for eastern areas from 3 onwards, particularly north Leinster would you say Ian?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭darkman2

Hi all, normally not too pushed on storms this time of year but places with the longest catchment of land based off shore winds look good for storms this afternoon. Being North of Northwesterly in direction i'd fancy the Wicklow/South Dublin coast but high res models indicate maybe North Leinster could be the place to be - propped up by indicators like the Lifted Index and CAPE variables - if you want to get drenched:p

On the down side no convergence zones in terms of the wind so maybe nothing too spectacular.
