Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am looking for advice on where to find experienced structural engineer for an engineering cunsultancy in Cork, they have to be a good all rounder should I advertise on the newspaper or on here or go through recutment agency? I would consider a business partner as the practice is coming up to 1 years trading and the volumn of work is alot for one person but rates are low so someone to shair the pain and the gain would be good.

Did you do the interview for the graduate position or for the two mid-level jobs advertised by engineers Ireland? I applied for the latter but heard nothing.

The position they have to fill is as follows:
System Engineer for Millennium Controls Ltd. Based in Midlands UK.
We have an apartment for the Engineer to stay in so this is taken care of.
The Engineer/Technician will have a strong Craft/Instrumentation background and be covering a number of sites we provide support for our Client Biffa.
The main site is an Anaerobic Digestion Plant (2 years old) in Cannock – about 20 miles from Birmingham Airport.
They will be expected to troubleshoot and support any problems with the Control Systems for the plant.
They will also be involved as part of a team upgrading certain items within the plant and with two other plants in Leicester.
We are also currently involved with a large new facility in Horsham – 20 miles from Gatwick
They will receive training of the plant and will be given further training on Siemens PLC Logic Development and Cimplicity SCADA Systems.
The role is an ongoing position but we see a 3 year development curve for the Engineer as they gain more experience in Control Systems, their installation, software development, commissioning and support.

This is an immediate vacancy which we are looking to meet candidates as soon as Monday or over the weekend in our office in Rosemount Business Park.

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Paul Murphy

I've just been looking at some of positions listed on their website, I've forgotten just how different job ads are over there. For example:

"Over dinner, you try to explain Bernoulli's principal to your spouse. Later, you fall asleep by counting CFD mesh cells. You wake up at 3am with a creative solution for a new product feature. You visualise mould split lines on your drive in to work. Once at work, you grab a coffee and jump straight into a discussion with the rest of your team of mechanical, electronic and software engineers about how to implement your latest idea. After having a laugh with them about the latest Dilbert cartoon, you open up Creo and start expertly drafting parts for the new concept, while the electronics boffins pull together some circuits and software to support it."

Does anybody know of anybody looking for independent contractors? I work from home as a mechanical design engineer, and am going through a very slow spell right now, so need some more contacts/customers.
I figure some companies don't want full-timers, but need help on certain projects or at short notice, which is what I do.

    Any transport planners here?

This company are looking for people:

    http://www.prparchitects.co.uk/

I applied and got this as a response:

"Further to my previous email to acknowledge receipt of your application, we have since reviewed all the candidates details received. Whilst we have not been inundated with suitable candidates, despite also enlisting the help of 3 separate recruitment agencies, it is important that we have the right skills and experience necessary for the role."

There seems to be a bit of a shortfall. They're an architecture firm looking to start a new transport department so they're only looking for experienced people (my downfall).

Someone here might have better luck.

    Fire Engineer New Zealand
My company are looking to hire an Irish fire engineer to work in Christchurch or possibly Wellington. You would need experience as you would be one of the lead engineers in their new office. I dont know the salary but it would be generous, possibly $100K+(=about E60K) but dont quote me on that. I would say they would pay for relocation costs, visas and the 1st months accommodation but again dont quote me. If you want to drop me a line I can set up a formal contact and you can thrash it out from there. They are finding it hard to find fire engineers down here so you would be in a good bargaining position. There is a 10 or 15 year building plan about to kick off to rebuild Christchurch so your job would be guaranteed for quite a while. Fire engineers can live quite well down here, the sun is shining, no talk about recessions, very little doom and gloom in general. Its a bit of a strange country at times and it is a bit far away but as somewhere to spend a few years until things pick up a bit back home, its not too bad. Its a good spot for the kids too, not many teenagers smoke, teenage sex dosent seem to be the norm and drinking dosent seem to be the only teenage pastime.
Anyway give me a shout if you think you might be interested in a new start, it shook the cobwebs off my life anyway.
Edit: The boss said they would consider graduates as well, they can learn from the senior engineers in the office.

There are jobs, the amount posted on this thread is a tiny reflection. Keep them coming is right. Not every engineer is a civil engineer you know Greenfield. Civil have been hit the hardest but other engineering sectors are looking up.
Graduate jobs in anything (maybe bar IT) however are thin on the ground, I'm looking at the moment and it seems like jobsbridge is hoovering up graduate/entry level positions. Im still hopeful though.

I was last year. and the market was pretty much the same.
I applied around, got a temporary job as a technician.
I proved competent and was given a permanent position as an engineer.

Fast forward another 6 months, a position opened up above and I got it. Now I have a staff, a responsible position and a few pay rises.

Chin up, check your CV for spelling mistakes and be willing to pay dues.

Got am email from a recruitment crowd earlier on today thought I might throw this up.
I hope all is well with you. CCP have been retained by Pall in the UK to recruit for a number of key roles within their sites in Newquay and llfracombe.
Pall operate in the industrial and lifesciences sectors and have a diverse range of businesses in these divisions.

The Newquay site opened in 1988 and currently has just under 400 employees, 22 employees in the engineering function and 22 in the quality department. The IIfracombe site opened in 1978 and currently employs 564 staff of which 42 are in the engineering function and 24 in the quality department. The Pall Newquay manufacture medical products and filter membranes whilst the Ilfracombe site operates in the Pharmaceutical and Aerospace Industries. These sites are both non-unionised and have a progressive style operation with a hands-on approach. They are seeking individuals who are self-starters, driven and motivated.

Product / Process / Manufacturing Engineering Roles
I have attached the links to each of these roles on our website, information on Newquay and Iifracombe, the advertising campaign (just in case you missed it), and corporate company information.

Senior Product Engineer requires experience with six sigma, risk assessment, FMEA and process validation in a regulated environment.
    http://www.ccprecruit.ie/job/jobdetails/72976/Senior_Product_Engineer/

    http://www.ccprecruit.ie/job/jobdetails/72974/Process_Improvement_Engineer/

We are also recruiting for a number of key roles in quality which are outlined in the advertising campaign, just in case you know anyone within this field. Please be advised we offer a referral bonus which is detailed on http://www.ccprecruit.ie/refer-a-friend/ for anybody referred.

The roles offer competitive salaries, benefits and relocation packages. Have you entertained the thought of emigrating? Are you free to discuss today or tomorrow? In the meantime, would you mind emailing your most up to date CV highlighting the relevant skill set required?
If these roles do not meet your career aspirations would you mind forwarding it to anyone who you believe may be interested, i.e. someone relocating, taking redundancy, perhaps unemployed or seeking a change? I would agree its a poor salary, but its higher than alot of the private companies are offering in their graduate programs.

One of the largest project management and consultancy companies in the country were offering level 8 graduates a wage starting at €19000 per annum for 4 year graduate program last year i think it rose to €26000 at the end of the program.

That said i got summer work in a smaller engineering company this year, with just my level 7 degree and trade background, with a €26000 salary. I will be continuing on to my level 8 in September so a fair wage considering.
