That's a hell of a lot more than I've ever won.

I have almost twice that amount in there for the last three years and I've never won a cent. I'm taking my funds out this week and putting them on deposit.

I called them up today asking how I can withdraw my Prize Bonds to my bank account. I have to write them a letter and to send my Prize Bonds in the post along with my bank account details that I want the payment sent to.

I don't really feel comfortable sending my Prize Bonds certs. in the post along with my bank account details.

Maybe it's time they moved into the 21st century.

    We're all in this psy-op together.🤨

Purposely making that bit more difficult so as to stop you cashing them in would be a part of that as well I'd say.

I've often sent them off that way and got over a grand back in Bonds value back into my account. What's the problem? Register it.

This thread originally made me interested in buying prize bonds so I bought €1,000 worth back in June. Then I started wondering what amount of interest I would have earned if I had put it on deposit in a regular bank. Then I decided that I needed a spreadsheet to work it out for me.

nca.ie today gives the market leading rate on instant access accounts with a desposit of €5,000 as 3.25% (KBC). Even though I put less than €5,000 in prize bonds, I could have put more so this seemed like a reasonable benchmark. Taking DIRT into account, that gives a rate of 2.275%.

I enter in the amount I bought and the date I bought it and the spreadsheet works out what I would have got:

    Total winnings on €1,000 since mid-June: €0
Total interest on €1,000 with the market leading rate since mid-June: €4.36

But that doesn't give me much information as to how Prize Bonds do over the longer term. So, using the data from some recent posts and using my 'reference rate' we can see:

    Hi,
This might be a stupid question, but does anyone find that they win more if they buy a ''large amount'' of prizebonds at once, so say you got 10k thats 1600 numbers( units) all in order eg, AB 1000-AB 2600, instead of having 5-6 units per prize bond?

Strangely enough, I have heard several colleagues respond in the affirmative to this. No basis in science but .......

Another point to ponder ... is there advantage / disadvantage to quoting the assigned Customer Account Number if you are a regular purchaser online.

We have 162 units, worth €6.25 each; total value €1012.50, some 30 years old, mostly bought in the 90's.

    Total winnings to date: €775.

Most bought as 1 units or 2 units for birthdays etc.

So don't think it matters whether you buy a big amount of consecutive units, or not.

over all it looks as if prize bonds are not a good 'investment' better off to put the money on deposit

I'm genuinely shocked that's you've won twice on your €500 since 2010. Consider yourself very lucky, princess.

That does seem to be the outcome of the thread! I'd imagine you would win more if you bought €25k euromillions tickets :-P

Unfortunately they are my daughters PB's! But she always gives me a cut ;)
The first win was just a few months after we bought them, and the second win was two years later. I hope we won't have to wait another two years for a win!
