Lenihan will not go for anything like £1m regardless. Pretty sure he has a buyout clause which once met, thats that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

There's no minimum fee buyout clause, but, since Lenihan's contract is out at the end of the season, the maximum compensation he'd gain is rumoured to be in the region of €270,000. And, at this stage, he's free to discuss terms with any other club. Unlike a player with more than six months to run, we can't dictate who gets to offer him a contract. There'd be little benefit for other clubs to offer more than €270,000, because it won't give them the exclusive opportunity to talk to Lenihan - they could just use that money to offer him better terms. We won't be the beneficiaries of Hull's windfall or any bidding war.

And yeah, those sell-on clauses were sold before the fans took over. If they weren't, they would have netted about €1M to €1.5M.

Yet another 1-0 win in Derry, John O'Flynn with the first half winner, pity Dundalk got a late winner but a great 3 pts for us nonetheless!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭Paz-CCFC

Huge win, delighted with it. Dundalk got a late winner, but we got one last week, so swings and roundabouts. Our result tonight is much bigger than theirs. Four behind them, nine games left. All to play for.

Bray on Monday, now. Have to give them respect for this. If we drop points here, then the last two results have been in vain. The lads deserve a big crowd for this one, regardless of the opposition.

Battered them but finished 1-1 pity as Dundalk also 1-1

Bray's antics tonight were disgraceful, every 5 mins they had a man down, an absolute joke:mad:

That's an Alan Mathews team out there. Diving, fouling, cynical play. But, we've played against him (and under him) plenty of times, so we should know what tactics he employs to get results against the bigger teams. Absolutely no excuse for dropping points tonight. We had 23 shots in the game, apparently. Bray had three. If you can't outscore them with that, then you don't deserve to win, to be honest.

Marky Sull's finishing touch has been gone for weeks and Danny Morrissey looks like he wouldn't have hit a barn door tonight. His injury (which is why he can only play half an hour) is really affected him. We need to get John O'Flynn back as soon as possible.

They had every right to waste time. We would have done the exact same roles reversed.

We got what we deserved tonight. A very very poor showing against an awful side. No ideas in the middle, pathetic wing play and Sullivan a non entity up top. Billy Dennehy is a fraud. He takes a good penalty but that's as good as it gets for him. Caulfields tactic tonight of lumping it long for over an hour just didn't work either.

Shame as Dundalks lead could now be just 2.

On this day thirty years ago - the 19th of August 1984 - Cork City played competitive football for the first time. A 2-1 win over Avondale in Flower Lodge in the Munster Senior Cup. Jim Leahy and Donie Madden were the scorers for City, who came from behind to win it.

I'm getting really sick of the same long ball being played up to Marky Sull. It was working fine early in the season but teams know exactly what to expect now and its so easy to defend against.

    Opportunity missed.

This long ball ****e played right into Bray's hands last night. Sull always competes well but its a low percentage ball whatever happens.

Darren Dennehy is the biggest culprit. The amount of times he'll have Healy or Murray in nice passing positions but he chooses to launch it forward. Very very frustrating to watch.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Dennehy might be a culprit but his instruction coming loudly from the touchline. Any time you see either centre half get the ball to feet you see Caulfield screaming at him to go long.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,021 ✭✭✭applehunter

Murray must be choosing to ignore him so cause he will usually look to feed into the midfield.

I think Billy Dennehy is a liability at this stage and was suprised not to see him taken off last night. We desperately need a finisher up front though.

    Lenihan on his way.

    c. €180,000.

Sell on clause could be a real boost if he continues to improve.

We were just pathetic in the first half, should've been 3 or 4 down at least (Bohs hit the post, missed an open goal & missed from 6 yards). Better second half but all in all, we were lucky we got a draw from that

    Haunted.

Another poor display of one dimensional disjointed football.

That back 4 looked like it was their 1st time playing together tonight, just some woeful defending. The hoofball tactic that we're using every game is becoming the most frustrating thing. We are so predictable to play against, we get the ball, pass around the back, back to Nults, back to defence, hoof to Marky and hopefully he get something on it. Rinse and repeat

You can't keep playing poorly and expect to get away with it.

That explains it, Billy is playing like someone has put some kind of hex on him since July.

Any Cork City fans wish to give a realistic opinion on Brian Lenihan's prospects with Hull. I have never seen him play - so, the media hype suggesting that he is the next Seamus Coleman and that he has been scouted by numerous top PL clubs bodes well BUT ultimately, the reality is that only Brighton in the Championship and Hull (a club that will monitor success this year as staying in the PL) made bids and Hull are sending him to the development squad (bear in mind that they bought a 20 year old from Dundee United a month ago for 3M who has gone straight into the senior squad and another 20 year old from League 1 Blades for 3M who is basically going to the development squad). So in your honest opinion, purchasing Lenihan for a paltry 200K seems really good business for Hull but is Lenihan really that good, a rough diamond maybe who might be worth a fortune down the road or is he just a better than average player in League of Ireland who might unfortunately sink into oblivion in the fickleness of the PL? Just looking for a reality check. Hope he is a great success. Thanks for reading this.
