I have a feeling that you might be right but i'll still go to have a look. If the weathers good it could be good craic

I'll stick to the circuit of Munster round of the dunlop national rally champ that weekend

    1. Donnelly only drove the mini for 1 rally and has reverted to an old corolla since and chances are thats what he will complete the championship in if he does even compete in all the rounds.

    2. Donnelly does the international tarmac championship, not the national so why mention him in the first place? And the quality of the national championship really has dropped off recently with few wrc cars (very few driven properly) and endless amounts of over hyped escort mk2's

    3. An f1 car driven at half speed is still 2x faster than a wrc car and the event in dublin is a once in a lifetime sorta thing. i dont think we will see f1 cars on the streets again anyway!

your a good one for stating the obivious,
life aint all about WRCs in the national championship some think the Tarmac championship ist the place for those, with out clubmen there would be real point in any form of motorsport so the over hyped boys in the mark chews have a place,
so life not as good for ya Guy since all the WRCs have gone so its no fun when your not snapping fancy wrcs all the time.

Im not into a half driven car of any sort, and ive been to spa so ive seen a F1 at full of the pipe, but i appreciate your lets say constructive critism.

oh were you in monaghan the weekend, jasus the Cooper and McKenna on some pace, far from over hyped them boy's in them MK2's

Why mention irrelevant wrc drivers and cars then when your arguing that the rally would be better to go to?

Constructive critisim says the lad who called the event a scanger boy racer fest? very constructive!

Mckenna is a hell of a driver but u will find that there wasn't much competition. No wr cars finished ffs! I never said all mk2's were bad nor that there was no talent in the championship, just that its no where near what it was and couldn't compare to the event in dublin for spectacle or the talent of the drivers present.

And i think you will find that i didn't curtail on my "snapping" because of fewer wrc's in the championship, that would be insane im not an armchair fan. I do fewer events now because im out competing myself in autotests or is that not clubman enough for your tastes?

How many F1 teams are confirmed as attending? I know McLaren and Caterham are for definite.

    Just been on teh website.

    http://www.bavariacityracingdublin.ie/

The tickets are an absolute rip off.

82euro for Custom House grandstand when you inc. booking fee

or 170euro for F1 paddock and grandstand.

O'Connell Bridge grandstand is sold out.

They show on the map the route and where the grandstands will be.

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=201002710211693536086.0004bc62a602c1fcea60a&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=p&ll=53.346581,-6.250019&spn=0.006405,0.028324&z=15&source=embed

So why spend the money when you can view it for free along the quays!

I imagine most the action will take place in front of the paid seats, burn out doughnuts and getting to see the cars accelerate from a standing start.

It is very pricey but these cars will be worth millions collectively, it's an expensive business. I'd love to go but don't know if I could justify the cost.

I will be going to have a look at this but not buying tickets. Should get a good look at the cars along the route anyway.

Thing's are a bit tight to be buying tickets for me :( bringing the two kids in to see can we get a look , hope not to be let down but sure have to make the effort .

There's only Silver paddock tickets on sale, anyone know what that means? Are there Gold tickets somewhere? (which I assume get you into the chocolate factory as well)

Has anyone any info on the route/track .

My ticket arrived today, I can upgrade it to the paddock pass, which i will be doing as soon as I get it!

Ticketmaster are selling tickets for 80 euro odd for the Custom House Quay zone yet the map above shows there's free viewing in that area.

In that case is it even worth purchasing tickets if you can just go along and watch from there anyway?

Or are the tickets just to get you into some elevated viewing area where you get a seat etc does anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 464 ✭✭PJTierney

Could you not just walk into Convention Centre Dublin and go to one of the higher levels in the lobby? That's my first thought looking at the graphic.

I cant afford a ticket but will be going anyway, the sound alone is just amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,964 ✭✭✭Sitec

If I went down early in the morning would I get a good view point somewhere? Or can you even see the cars without a ticket?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,522 ✭✭✭dor83

The green areas on the map are "Free spectator viewing" so you should be able to see the cars go by in those areas. I can't justify spending that much on a demonstration myself so will head down early and see if I can get a decent view, even if it's packed and I can't find a decent spot, the sound alone is worth it imo.

I was considering buying a ticket but I doubt that most of them merit their pricetags (going from experience of paying for 3 grand prix weekends over the years!)

Anyone guesstimating how many people will actually show up? I'm wondering how early I should head down to get some way close to the front.

So far it's Jenson, Lewis and the Caterham drivers confirmed isn't it? As well as Adam Carroll and a few others?

I can see why you might think those drivers would be there, the site drops a lot of names.

From my reading of the site, the only F1 *race* driver there will be Jenson Button.

It looks like he will drive the MP4/26, last year's car, which is good. Here's video of him doing a display last month:

Giedo van der Garde will drive the Caterham. He did FP1 in Shanghai and testing in Jerez.
The Goodwood FoS website says he will drive the T127, the 2010 car

Tara Street will be closed until 19:00 on Sunday. The Nearest DART station to get off in Town is at either Pearse & Connolly Station.

Also, I discovered Irish Rail are doing a competition to win a pair of tickets to the event at the F1 Paddock by doing a quick survey which was only two questions long.

Doesn't Damon Hill sometimes play in his band with him? That would be pretty cool if he did. Any idea how I could check see if he will be there, as far as i know he doesn't have a twitter account and don't really want to bring in the stuff if he won't be there or wouldn't be willing to sign anything. I have a flag from the '99 season , my goal is potentially to get Eddie's, Frentzen's and Hill's signature on it.

I was having a look at the stands in front of custom house today and reckon they might be too high to see a F1 car going past in front of them. The first row of seats is well above the height of a normal car.

I for one can not wait :D To see and hear a F1 car in the streets of Dublin and Jensen driving makes it even sweeter :D

    Anyone else heading to this????

I wouldn't worry to much about that . When I was at silverstone last year for the f1 the stands were fairly high up and you could see grand and we were 4th row on the new pit straight and plus this isn't there first event at this so I'm sure the organisers know what they are doing .

If I'm honest, I don't think it will (but I hope I am wrong). I'm a complete F1 nut and I'm not going to bother with it. Apart from the performance areas there isn't going to be much to see apart from the car not getting out of 3rd gear. From what I've seen along the quays the road is split in two by a metal/concrete barrier, so it will just be driving in a straight line for most of it.

Don't get me wrong, the sound will be immense, there is nothing like your first time hearing an F1 car for a petrol head, but I just have a feeling the overall experience won't be that great.

Yeah I'm thinking the same. Once you have been to a Grand Prix already this won't come anywhere near it.

I'll still go for the craic though. It's the closest Ireland will probably ever come to a Grand Prix.

It's the closest Ireland will probably ever come to a Grand Prix.

Reminds me of the time rumours were going around that A1GP would hold a race around the IFSC

I was going to head in and try to get some pics but the weather look like its going to be a washout...

    From Met.ie....
Starting off wet in many areas on Sunday, with some further pulses of very heavy rain. Ongoing spot flooding. The rain will tend to pull away southeastwards in the afternoon and evening with drier, brighter conditions extending from the northwest.
