Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Running with 38 dex at the moment and +10 Uchigatana. Need to get the next ember now which I think improves dex scaling and should be doing very decent damage then

Congrats. It's all down hill from here in terms of difficulty.... except the DLC. But you should be able to handle anything the game throws at you.

Thanks, thats good to know. I'm guessing I'm a decent ways into the game now. Sounds like 4 or 5 more bosses to go but I'm sure that depends on who I stumble into on the way to them.

DLC is definitely worth doing. Tackle it just before the final boss. If you kill the final boss you can't play it again until the end of New Game plus. From DLC is some of the best DLC ever.

Might have to tackle that so. I created a backup save for Bloodborne before finishing it so I could access the DLC on NG, dont think there's a way to do that on Switch though.

I'd really recommend tackling it during this play through. It's not that long and all three new boss fights are incredible (and one optional one which is a bit too much but optional).

Do the Painted World shortly. It's not overly difficult.

I think I had killed O&S and then did Nito and Four King's before going there.

Easily my one of favourite areas of the games.

That fight is probably the only fight in the game I have a hard time beating without the help of Knight Solaire or summons. What annoys me are the two giant guards blocking the way into the boss room. They can really f*ck things up for me when trying to get past them and preventing them from killing Solaire before the boss fight.

And if it's not the giant guards it's the players who invade you while you're making your way to the boss fight.

I was just legging past the knights when I wasn't using Solaire but had to fight them when I ended up using him cos I wanted him at full health for the main fight. They were a pain in the hole then cos I'd inevitably use up a few estus I needed for the boss fight.

Once I decided I was going to use Solaire I just went offline before becoming human cos I knew it was a popular area for wreck head invaders.

I am playing this for the first time with a controller, all other runs having been with keyboard+mouse.

It's way more fun! I can sit back and relax, and get in a flow. SL1 run underway.

Only downside is the thumbsticks are taking some getting used to, but it's literally the first time I've ever held an Xbox controller so I suppose it'll come in time.

I honestly don't know how anyone could play one of those games with a Keyboard and Mouse, that would be next to impossible for me.

Finally completed Dark Souls this morning. Stopped playing at Oocile Township in October but jumped back in last week to tidy everything up.

Killed Manus in four goes and Kalameet took about 10. Parried Gwyn to death on the third go so that's everything done now.

Either Demon Souls on PS5 or DS2 next.

Dark souls 2 is great once you get into it, I actually prefer it to DS1 ;)

Go with 2 next, then 3.. Save Demon souls for later, you will likely save alot of money getting DeS at a later date with its current rip off price :D

It's Gas how each experience is different, i genuinely disliked DS2!

By the way, if Bloodbourne has not been played yet, this would be my first suggestion for a next play...

Sounds like we are on a similar journey :pac:

Since getting the PS5 and Demon's Souls I have decided to platinum all the games. Just took care of Bloodborne this morning and Dark Souls a few weeks ago. Will take a break before starting on Dark Souls 2.

My brother bought Demon Souls and we game share.

Edit: I've finished Sekiro and Bloodborne.

Given what has been played already Dark Souls 2 will be an absolute cake walk to the OP. Replayed it myself recently on Series X having played it on 360 at launch. Looks and plays better than DS3 even on the Series X . Weapon durability was an issue but I think that was patched on PS????

The DLC though isn't a cake walk and I found some of those areas a real challenge.

Weirdly enough, DS3 was patched when the PS4 Pro released and the framerate was unlocked. It didn't make any sense as it usually just hovered around 45 fps making it pretty juddery. When played on PS5 it runs at a locked 60 FPS.

Weird that they never patched it for 1X, which means I think it is still stuck at 900p/30 FPS on series X.

Very much looked it, I would have played it when it came out and never really had issues with it but back then I was on a 1080p display and 30fps was par for the course on consoles. Going back to it now it was near unplayable, I made it to the first boss before leaving it.

EDIT: Actually I must go and check if it's going to be one of the games to benefit from the fps boost feature MS have implemented on the X.

It isn’t, that’s only available on a handful of games.

I tried Demon Souls last night and something feels off about the camera, like it's much lower to the ground behind my character which makes timing parties very difficult.

Is there a way to gmset it similar to Dark Souls?

Is it the PS5 Demons souls? I think the default is a new camera mode called chase. I think there's a setting called 'manual' which is supposedly similar to the classic souls camera.

I've not tried it myself though as I didn't have any issue with the default one.

Yep on PS5. The only issue I have is it's very low so makes it hard to see when the enemy is going to swing at you. It wouldn't be an issue if I was just blocking but its hard to jusde parries with it.

Dark Souls III down to 12.50 in the PS Spring Sale. What's the general consensus on DS3? Also Season Pass for same is down to the same price, is it worth it?

Might not play it for a while, but even regardless of price, just wondering what the opinion of it is compared to other SoulsBorne games (particularly Demon's Souls which I imagine is the closest comparison).

It's pretty amazing and the dlc is wonderful. Definitely worth picking up. It's kind of a halfway point between dark souls and bloodborne. The combat is a little faster and bosses a little more aggressive to compensate.

I'd rank it better than demons souls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,294 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Alright, bought both. I definitely enjoyed Demons Souls more than Bloodborne, but a bit of Bloodborneness in the game wouldn't be a bad thing either.

It runs at 60 FPS on the PS5 which is a nice bonus.

I have been meaning to try the DLC but I accidentally went straight into NG+ And there is no way I would be up to the challenge

Just completed Bloodborne for the first time. I’d tried it in the past after first completing DS1, 2 and 3 but it just never clicked for me. Good ‘ol FightinCowboy released a 100% walkthrough recently so I decided to take the plunge again.

The biggest thing for me was coming to the realisation that you don’t actually need to parry with the gun to proceed, which I was convinced was the case previously. Once I got over that it went smoothly.

Having said all that, I’m not quite sure why people consider it a masterpiece and the crown jewel of the series. Personally I preferred souls a lot more, particularly DS1 and 3. Also loved Demon Souls.

I love Demon's Souls and glad more people are loving it now after the mountains of abuse I got suggesting it was a better game than Uncharted 2 that year (sweet vindication, remember kids I'm rarely wrong) but it always felt a bit unrefined and unfinished compared to the rest of the series (even if Dark Souls and Bloodborne feel a little unfinished as well). There's too many janky areas and too many gimmick bosses for me to say it's anywhere near the best or is it just emperor's new clothing as it's the only stand out exclusive on the PS5?

I only ever used the gun parry for hunter enemies/bosses. For monster enemies/bosses I really felt it was too difficult and pointless trying to time it correctly and wasn't really required. Much easier in those cases to dodge and attack from the side instead.

I do kinda agree about the gimmick bosses in DeS, especially when it comes to the archdemons in each area. But a big issue I had with Bloodborne was too much similarity in most of the bosses, where they were all just large monsters who you attack from the side/rear, dodge in and dodge out. It works for the game mechanics in terms of the rally system where you're supposed to remain aggressive as much as possible, but most of the bosses just felt repetitive because of that.

I loved the bosses in Bloodborne but my issue was that after Vicar Amelia the game was a cake walk in terms of bosses. The DLC however was fantastic. You've a valid criticism as well. I do however feel Bloodborne feels a lot more coherent and finished than DeS.

Not to **** on DS3 after bigging it up so much but it can have the same issue as well where a lot of bosses are trying to be another Ornstein and Smough and a lot rely on a very annoying attack where the wind up, delay the attack and then hit you coming out of the roll too early. Way too many bosses do it!

Have been playing Dark Souls 1 the last week and I actually think it's the best game of the series. I love DS3 for its gameplay and as a personal preference but DS1 just feels more challenging.

Sen's Fortress can be an absolute nightmare for low-level players. Those traps along with the snake warriors who throw lightning bolts are annoying as f*ck. The rolling boulders can be very annoying as they seem to change regardless of whether you have changed to gear to face the outside window in the gear room.

The tomb of giants can be very tricky on your first playthrough as you're basically walking around in the dark without a light trying desperately not to fall off a ledge or get killed by one of those giant skeletons. As you go further into the tomb the giant skeletons get worse and are beast-like. I discovered that fire was very effective against them so I keep my distance and just throw fireballs at them but they are very strong and you can barely block their attacks.

Blighttown is the worst area of them all. Very awkward and tricky to move around, if you come in through the sewers you'll have a very challenging time getting to the second bell.

The only thing I would say about Dark Souls is that the bosses can be very easy if you've summoned an ally to help you or you know what you're doing. The Iron Golem is a piece of cake if you summon Black Iron Tarkus, Solaire of Astora is very OP and is basically a freak of nature, and Witch Beatrice can be very useful when fighting the Moonlight Butterfly and the Four Kings.

I think Ornstein and Smough would probably be the hardest bosses in the DS, followed by the demon bosses in Izilith.

There's nothing in some of the fights.

Moonlight Butterfly for example - keep moving with a good magic shield up and he'll eventually land. Give him a few whacks. Reset and repeat once more and he's dead.

Iron Golem is easy. Just run behind him and swipe away at his ankles.

I always thought this was sort of the point - these great warriors cannot defeat Gwyn but you can, you're fighting against the odds. Also Tarkus could hammer the Iron Golem but couldnt do something as "simple" as traverse the beams in Anor Londo - theres a lesson there somewhere.

What exactly is the point of Crystal weapons in Dark Souls? It says that they're brittle and can't be repaired. I've no use for a weapon that breaks easily as I like to get the use of the weapons. I suppose it would probably be best for a crossbow or a weapon that doesn't require physical contact, but is there any advantage to using them over other upgrades?

They do more damage at their base level than normal weapons do. Nearly sure you need to to get normal weapons up to +10 or more to match the damage on a crystal weapon.

You can repair them but the only way to do it is to upgrade the crystal weapon.

I redownloaded DS3 and bought the 2 DLC’s. Haven’t played the game since 2016 and I’m completely confused about what to do. I have finished the game but haven’t started NG+. Wondering if I should play it now before going into the new game or if I should wait and play through the game a bit first to get back into the swing.

This made me want to play it again lol. Currently downloading on PS5.

Similar - just downloaded it again, remembering bits but also fully lost in it. Playing as a pure build sorcerer - might be a mistake, dying way easier than I ever remember before.

Started DS3. Have made it to Firelit Shrine pretty easily. Only died once to the bog-standard enemies just because one came at me from behind, but managed to take down the first boss and the katanga guy to the side of the Shrine without dying, making this my most successful start to a SoulsBorne game thus far.

Main question is are there of those 'very important game mechanic which isn't really explained until it's too late to do anything about it' in the game? Like the world tendency or dragonrot kind of stuff? After I beat the boss it said Ember Rekindled, am I supposed to kill myself like the soul stuff in Demons Souls?
