Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It can be a bit cringey at times but is full of character in comparison to Sky's pre-race coverage.

Rain, yay. Radar looks like its down for about 5-10 minutes, possible break, then down again.

    Rain+Slicks+Wall of Champions=possibly a mental qualifying.

The rain should really mix the grid up nicely.

EJ: "Sometimes you just have to get off the fence ever once and a while", if that was said in sky's coverage, there'd be sackings on the spot.

My top 3 is Rosberg,Webber and Vettel.

wonder could Rosberg get a slap on the wrist for the way he recovered the car after his spin, looked a bit clumsy blocking the other cars

Well done to Bottas. He did a super job today.

As for Lewis, it will be his fourth time starting from the front row this season. If he finishes in the top three tomorrow I will be very happy.

As for Romain, he'll have to start in 29th ;)

Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo have both been given 2 place grid-penalties for queueing in the wrong place at the end of the pitlane at the restart of Q2 after Massa's crash. They didn't line up in order of who got there first.

Damn, too late to win the pics. I'm still gonna go ahead and say Kimi, Vettel, Alonso.

As far as Brawn etc. goes, once Mercedes bought the team out it was only a matter of time before he was shoved out, pretty damn classless of them if this is how they're doing it though. If he's not out this time they'll always have it over him as well, "We stuck by him through the tyre thing... blah blah blah."

Anyone catch Ross Brawn's phone number? During the segment on the Sky broadcast when Brundle was driving Hamilton in, Hamilton's phone rings and it cuts to a close up of the phone - with "Ross Brawn" and his phone number clear for all to see. Wonder will he get any prank calls as a result? :-)

Race will be very interesting. Coming into the weekend it looked like a dry race. Yesterday showers were at 20-30% for the race, it's now hovering at a 50% chance. Rain looking increasingly likely at some point over the race. Canada always throws surprises!

I thought the interview with Robert Kubica was good.

He was very humble and very honest with the BBC too.

Would be great to see him back in F1 at some stage in the future.

Anyone afraid Bottas might do a Grosjean? :P

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 15,858 ✭✭✭✭paddy147

Just incase anyone forgot...Kubica had a massive crash in Montreal back in 2007.

He was lucky to survive that one.

It hasn't been too noticeable because the Williams has been muck but Bottas has been keeping himself out of trouble much better than one would expect for a guy in his first season.

I personally think Bottas is the next in the line of great Finnish drivers. Outqualified Maldonado 5:2 so far this season and we all know Maldonado can be quick. Bottas has also finished all 6 gp compared to Maldonado's 3/6 so he seemingly doesn't have Maldonado's ability to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I agree, from what I've seen so far he seems very mature and quite a smart driver.. I think he'd be happy in this race with 3rd/4th/5th rather than doing a Grosjean and going for the win on the first lap.

It was only a joke, I'm aware that Bottas has drove quite well this season. The evening's race however is a different kettle of fish. True colours could be shown. A man sitting in third sandwiched between some of the best racers in the world. Will he keep his nerve? I certainly hope he will.

The weather today will be entirely different to quali though so I think there will be a lot of chopping and changing throughout the race. Bottas will be lucky to get a top 10 imo unless some elements go in his favour (safety car, pit stop strategy, rain shower etc). Alonso will probably grab a podium if he stays out of trouble. The Force India's will definitely be worth looking at too.

I think Bottas won't get cause any problems. He wouldn't do anything anything risky. He has a chance that he will come away with points today and perhaps they might be the only points he might score this year as the Williams is a dog of a car.

And on another note: weather for Montreal today.

That has to be a piss take im thinking. Ive got the number clear as can be.
No way they would have left that there in a heavily edited piece. Also after watching it again, the way the close up of the phone is taken doesnt make alot if sense. The camera shot is there square on to the phone close up before the phone screen actually changes to show the incoming call. Looks like a little bit of fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,684 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

The Hulk has been bumped to 9th on the grid, expecting him to score some points today. Bottas does seem to be a mature racer for a 23 year old. Be nice to see him get a decent result for his hard work yesterday (and today of course, all things going well).

So here's hoping for a safety car to ruin Vettel's advantage at some stage in the race. Any sign of rain today?

DRS is always strong here too, if the car is there he could get well into the points.

True enough. I guess I just don't rate him that highly. He seems a nice enough bloke in interviews, but he's just not that great on track (in my own opinion).
