Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It had to go 3D eventually. I'm going to miss the gorgeous sprite art.

Time to buy a 3DS then.

    They ran out of colors?

This looks like what I had hoped for from console pokemon games.

That, and the whole moving to 3D/Z-axis thing.

Ashamed of myself that I didn't cop that... makes sense though. What's the next one going to be called then? Pokemon Phi and Pokemon Theta?

I'd take a wild guess at Pokemon Z considering the dimensions theme.

I was really hoping for a R/S/E remake on the regular DS before we got to Gen 6 :(

Cheer up, there is a good chance we will eventually get a Gen III remake with these graphics

I'm surprised at the 3-year turnaround, to be honest. It's been done before, but that was from GB-to-GBC (though both using the same engine)/GBC-to-GBA, so I figured DS-to-3DS would've taken longer, whatwith the leap in art-design and concept, and the overall engine overhaul. Granted, I've been reading stocks and stocks of baseless speculation, stating that Game Freak were privvy to 3DS dev-kits a while before the console's release, which'd be odd, considering that'd mean it would've clashed with the dev/release of Black and White, which in turn would mean that Gen V was never designed to be anything other than a stop-gap series.

I think the window's closed on this one, really. Don't remakes usually coincide with the Japanese anniversary of the original's release?

Hate nintendo for never doing a pokémon MMO and releasing the same game the last 15 years

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 7,941 Mod ✭✭✭✭Yakult

Would love a 3d remake of Red/Blue/Yellow with the original mon's. The best mon's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

I must agree that I'm surprised thatthey are releasing these games so fast. I only picked up White 2 over xmas, and this new one is already well underway.

There's the problem in your logic - games, plural. It's been the same game with 10% new novelties added every version. Hence the speedy development times ;)

PS: I like Pokemon, not a troll :D

I'd take a wild guess that there were two dev teams, a DS one and a 3DS dev team working in parallel.

I'd imagine we'd get R/S/E before there was a third version of R/B/Y.

I don't know about you, but a Pokemon Malachite and Pokemon Feldspar would of been more than adequate.

If those are two of the new legendaries, they aren't the greatest looking.

I think the one with the antlers looks great. Proud and majestic looking.

EDIT: Also, why is there a pic of Patrat on a about new pokémon?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭fanki na pengin

The big red legendary looks like a massive Y-shaped kite. The deer/stag one looks cool though.

Also, the water based starter pokemon is keromatsu in Japanese.....a subtle-as-a-sledgehammer reference to a certain green muppet....

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

I actually kind of prefer the kite looking one, but they aren't a patch on Mewtwo :pac:

There's no reference to kermit the frog at all. In japanese the noise a frog makes when it croaks is 'Kero-Kero' which is what it references to (going out with a frog obsessed weeaboo means I know this all too well :) ).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭fanki na pengin

By jove you're right, and I never thought of that!

On top of that, it's still really close to the mark with kermit for it to be a coincidence for me though.

EDIT: Actually, just asked a mate and she said Japanese say kaamito for kermit, so I may have just been over analysing.

    Time to buy a 3ds :D

Was thinking the same, but I lost interest in Pokemon
    a) because I was getting older :P
    b) because they released another 100 on top of the original 151 and I didn't like all these new cutesy ones

How many Pokemon are there now ? , must be at the 500 mark or something, will they all be in this new game ? I think i'd be making me team up using originals anyways :D

    Pokedex says 649 , I dunno.

Does that make us old, the fact we can remember a time when they only knew about 151 ? 649 is too many

I would probably buy this if it were a G/S/C remake but that's already been done.
I've never played a game past that series.

Then you missed out on a genuine improvement in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.

    UPDATE

"- In addition to existing Pokemon, there will be a large number of completely new Pokemon. - The additions will bring the total number of Pokemon in the franchise from the current 649 to over 700.
    - People around the world will be able to simultaneously experience “Real Play.”
    - The game will utilize the 3DS to its maximum abilities to leverage its overwhelmingly beautiful presentation
    - game uses an innovative communication system that makes it feel as if you are playing with other players around the world
    - bonds between players and Pokemon will deepen, and Pokemon will become stronger with the new battle structure
    - Everyone will enjoy the game’s scenario and music."

Well, there may be 700+ pokemon, but only a fraction would be available to catch in the game.
So unless you got previous generations to transfer across you may be shit out of luck.

I collect and battle with the worst-designed pokemon. This one is a cog! This one is an ice-cream cone! OMG, this is just a frigging trash bag!!! Must have!

What next? A pokemon based on a pencil? A bit of fluff? Maybe a condom-wrapper?

    'Prophylactigon used Protect'

    'It had no effect'

    'What? Prophylactigon is evolving?'

'Congratualtions! Your Prophylactigon evolved into Fetusaurus'

    'Fetusaurus learned Child Support!'

This might give you some hints.

I do agree with you though, only really played Diamond and then White, some of the pokemon like the ice cream and the trash bag are pretty atrocious.

I thought yous were joking, just googled them

    Trubbish his name is ?

I think I'll just go back and play Gold.
It's also a bit funny, that I'd say most people commenting on this "Pokemon" thread are in their mid 20s :P , and I'd wager none under 18

Yep, Trubbish, and I think Vanillite is the ice cream one. On the subject of stupid pokemon:

This one is called "sharpedo", you'll never guess what two objects it's made of.

Will admit that most of the new pokemon look really stupid but I have loved pokemon most of my life. I still have new and old cards and love the games despite really being the same, they provide loads of fun. Will have to get a 3DS for this and I can't wait already.

Most of the new pokemon aren't that bad, sure the Trubbish and Vanillite families kind of suck, but there is plenty of cool ones too, like Hydreigon, Haxorus and Emboar.

I love Haxorus and and the ones he evolves from. He is just a beast in general when it comes to the games.

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed when it turned out he wouldn't be the pseudo-legendary, he did look badass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 Spuddy91

I seen someone that had a shiny Haxorus, was very jealous.

There's a shiney one available to all in B/W 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭ahnowbrowncow

Hope they make the game more challenging and I hope the battle system requires more skill or thought. Any info on the battle structure?

I got sick of battles the last time I played after spamming the same attacks over and over and over again.

That the dragon you get from Alder's relative? Cause if it is, that's either a Dratini (White 2) or a Gible (Black 2).
