I’m a Virgo: Jharrel Jerome to star in Boots Riley (sorry to bother you) Amazon series

Jharrel Jerome is heading from Netflix to Amazon for I’m a Virgo, a new series from Boots Riley.

Jerome, who starred in Netflix’s When They See Us and has gone on to impress in Netflix’s Concrete Cowboy, had a breakout performance in Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight. Now, he’s headed to Amazon Studios, with the online giant giving a series order to the coming-of-age story about a 13-foot Black man (Jerome) who lives in Oakland, California. Jerome is no stranger to Amazon, though, after Amazon Prime Video released Selah and the Spades.

Riley, who enjoyed immediate cult success with his debut Sorry to Bother You, has written the series and will also direct. He serves as exec-producer, alongside Michael Ellenberg of Media Res, Tze Chun and Jerome. The half-hour project, like Sorry to Bother You, is described as “absurdist”. It is a co-production between Amazon and Media Res.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Amazon on this project,” said Riley in a statement. “This show will either have me lauded or banned, and as such, I have demanded payment up front.”

“I’m A Virgo is refreshingly original and there’s nothing else like it on television,” commented Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television for Amazon Studios. “No one is quite like Boots, and we’re so excited to be working with him and Jharrel on this fantastical, funny, and utterly unique new series. We can’t wait for our Prime Video customers to see it.

This new show will be an original story written by Golamco and follows a Korean American family of legendary guardians. Titled Secret Guide to Celestial Creatures, it will be released on Disney+ under the 20th Television banner. Carolyn Cassidy, of 20th Television said:
“We’ve had the pleasure for years of watching Randall as an anchor of our beloved series, Fresh Off the Boat. He is as hilarious as he is kind and talented. He introduced us to his longtime friends and collaborators Michael and Hieu. They blew us away with their taste and passion for creating television shows from their own unique perspective as Asian-American creators, and we knew immediately that we had to be in business with them. They’re smart, driven and brimming with ideas. They share our desire to bring voices to the screen that are underrepresented and in doing so, create series that reflect the drama and humor of the world we live in today.”

Stockholm-based production company Dramacorp is joining forces with best-selling author Jonas Jonasson for “Whiskey on the Rocks,” a high-profile Cold War-set mini-series.

The series will reunite Jonasson with Patrick Nebout, Dramacorp CEO, and creative director Henrik Jansson-Schweizer following the Oscar-nominated “The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared,” which became Sweden’s biggest blockbuster.

Weaving comedy and thriller, “Whiskey on the Rocks” is inspired by a notorious incident that very nearly escalated into a full-blown war between Sweden and the USSR. In 1981, a Soviet U-137 ‘Whisky’-class submarine ran aground on rocks deep inside Swedish territorial waters — right in the middle of a sensitive Swedish naval exercise. This extreme breach of sovereignty led to a Cold War stand-off between Sweden and the USSR that took 11 days of high-stakes negotiation to resolve.

The event series will be headlined by a local and international cast. “Whiskey on the Rocks” will also be using next-generation in-camera and VR technology pioneered by Lucasfilm and Disney on the space Western series “The Mandalorian.”

    Wind Of Change

Hulu Lands TV Adaptation Of Rock N Roll Spy Podcast ‘Wind Of Change’
: Wind Of Change, the wild podcast that asks whether the CIA wrote the eponymous Scorpions hit song, is being adapted for television at Hulu.

Created and hosted by New Yorker investigative journalist Radden Keefe, the eight-part podcast series follows Keefe as he explores a rumor he heard from a source within the CIA: The CIA was behind the 1990 international hit. He will look at spies doing the unthinkable, a secret history of propaganda hidden in pop music, and a maze of government secrets as he attempts to untangle one of the great mysteries of the Cold War.

Power ballad Wind of Change was recorded by West German rock band Scorpions in 1990; the lyrics were composed by lead singer Klaus Meine during the band’s visit to the USSR at the height of perestroika. Amazon to Develop Bill Konigsberg’s ‘The Bridge’ as Limited Series, David Mandell to Write

n a competitive situation, Amazon has acquired the rights to the Bill Konigsberg’s novel “The Bridge” with David Mandell set to adapt the book for television, Variety has learned exclusively.

The limited series will be produced by Amazon Studios in association with PKM Productions. Mandell will write and executive produce, with Konigsberg also executive producing along with Patrick Moran of PKM. Moran is currently under an overall deal with Amazon.

In “The Bridge,” neither Tillie nor Aaron goes to the top of the George Washington Bridge with the idea that their life matters all that much. They don’t know each other, but one thing they share is the belief that no one will miss them when they’re gone. When they interrupt each other’s suicide plan, they are forced to make a quick decision: jump or not jump. Based on the decision each makes in the split second that they sit a hundred feet apart, staring at each other with one leg over the rail, the world splits into four alternate realities. What Tillie and Aaron don’t know is that every life is inexorably tied together, and there’s no way to predict the impact a life—or the absence of a life—can have.

Stumbled across this I don't where it's been shown in world but there is 4 episodes out at the moment I just watched the first one and it's just fun to see parts of Dublin like Trinity and Dun Laoghaire being used as exotic places.

Brendan Fraser & Tom Welling looking their ages now, it's one of these European funded shows like Crossing Lines where they use a few American big names with European cast and make it feel like it is a US series.

Terrible so far but part of me likes terrible TV and I do like Brendan Fraser.

Finished watching the season today it was alright nothing great, I will say however they made Dublin look great and filmed in places you wouldn't usually see on film.

Very few shows that I can't get through a few episodes of. This was awful though. Lasted about 10 mins. Got as far as the scene at the end of the pier in Dun Laoghaire and that was it. Awful, awful stuff.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've been down this road walkin' the line.
Though it's not like I've been searchin' my soul tonight.

I dunno, Ally McBeal with She-Hull sounds kinda fun. More interesting than some formulaic villain of the week show anyway.

WandaVision & Loki both seem to be quirky in different ways and if they are going with She-Hulk as comedy they seem to be varying the shows up so they aren't all the same formula that's a good thing for me.
